D gives up a TD to backups. Good God :(

Chip Kelley comment about North Texas. Can't help but laugh.

Some of the articles popping up about this....FWIW, http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/usc-trojans-chip-kelly-philadelphia-eagles-steve-sarkisian-north-texas-state-armadillos-101515 -
Yep. Cosh Defense = Mendoza Defense. Both are historically bad. The stout defense was the main reason for our success.....for that 1 season a couple years back.
-
WKU is a terrific team. Proud of our guys so far.
-
I just knew that was going to happen. For almost every team, I would push them back. Our defense, let them have the 3.
-
I sure would like our offense to have more of a chance. For that to happen, our D has to at least stop them on occasion :(

Black definitely makes us at least look more threatening. I am good with any psychological edge we can get.

The reporter actually started the whole "State" thing. Definitely in a mocking tone. It's actually funny to watch him Chip mock the reporters though. Chip: "You want to talk about another college ? You have 10 minutes. So, let's talk about North Texas". But hey, at least our campus was used in a movie that almost any sports fan has seen ;) -
OK. This is pretty damn funny. During Chip Kelley's press conference, he makes a joke about being contacted by colleges with openings. Specifically, they were asking if he was contacted by USC about the job. His comment went something like this.... Reporter: "Chip, have you been contacted by USC ?" Chip: "No, No. No. North Texas" Reporter: "State ?" Chip: "Yes State. The Armadillos or whatever". Reporters heard laughing. NT comment starts at the 2:20 mark. http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/videos/videos/Press-Pass-Chip-Kelly/89756551-acdf-44b6-b546-55903b75233d The fun around here never stops. LOL.

Yeah. I picked up on the similarities in that conversation also. I don't listen to the ticket anymore, it's mostly schtick and little sports these days.

My thoughts exactly. Our recruiting has been a bit below average, by CUSA standards. However, the real problem is that the players just didn't believe in the direction of the program/coaching. I don't want to blame any one person. But, when your QB position is as bad as hit has been for 1 1/2 seasons here, it takes a motivational toll on the other positions. The QB is your leader. You have to have faith in him to succeed. I blame the coaching, not the players. Here is the UNT Recruiting rankings for the last few years on 24/7" 2015 6 of 14 (UAB is included, but shouldn't be)2014 9 of 142013 12 of 142012 6 of 14That is an average of 8.25 out of 14. We need to do a hell of a lot better. But, with the right coaching and a talented leader behind center, this team could climb out of the cellar quickly. Also, Mac's 2015 class was at least average. I don't think the lack of talent will be that much of a hard sell when it comes to the new coach. We could be a lot worse.

Official WKU Game Score Prediction Thread
akriesman replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
UNT 24 WKU 52 Yes, that will be an improvement over what it would have been if no changes were made. D Smith 14-30, 164 yds, 2 td, 2 Int + 64 yards rushing. I think Demarcus will have some rust, but makes some big plays also. -
Who would you have hired? Are you any better than RV?
akriesman replied to Cr1028's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll Play: In 2006 I admit that I wanted.......Todd Dodge :) In 2010 I wanted either Leavitt, Francione or maybe Don Carthel. A lot of us were excited about TD. But, I do remember a number of people that were against it. Leavitt was my #1 choice in 2010. BTW: I admit that I was also high on the Benford hire. -
Hope is all I am asking for, because over the last 4 games we have continued to slide to the bottom. I think it would be asking a lot to expect our kids to win this game. WKU is a very, very good CUSA team. I will be thrilled if we see these 3 things on thursday night: 1) Improvement in the QB position from DM, with WKU having to at least respect the vertical passing game. 2) Players giving full effort, even if/when they are a few scores down. 3) A defense that plays physical, even if it leads to a few more big plays.

I don't care if Smith starts and gets 4 picks next game. He at least has some potential. If not smith, then Means. If not means then.... We are playing for pride and the future at this point. There is no point in AM or Greer seeing the field anymore.
-
Somebody has to go now. The rest can be evaluated later. There is no way to get any lower. You have to start with the head of the football team. He is ultimately responsible, whether he is the problem or not. i know we have lots of problems. But you have to do something to show that we care now. We also have to show the rest of our CUSA buddies that we care about winning.

The players have spoken. They don't want to play for this regime . That is all that's to it. Changes will have to be made immediately
-
firings and changes must start Monday. The team is lost. This looks like the worst homecoming in NT history. This all goes beyond talent. 21-0 after 1 quarter.
-
Our passing game: 5-10 for 23 yards. Good god.

Rock bottom is closing in on us very fast :(

In 2011, Southern Miss finished 12-2 under Larry Fedora, who then left to become the head coach at North Carolina. In 2012, Southern Miss went 0-12 under first year coach Ellis Johnson. Who was FIRED after 1 year despite signing a 4-year contract at a minimum of $740,000 annually. In 2013, Southern Miss hired current coach Todd Monken, whose team was a pathetic 1-11 until beating UAB on the last game of the season. In 2014, Southern Miss improved to 3-9 under Monken. In 2015, Southern Miss is now 3-2 under Monken. If the wheels are not already off, they could come off very soon at UNT. Look how long it is taking Southern Miss to recover from that disaster of 2012. At least USM saw the writing on the wall and made a coaching change after only 1 year of a 4 year contract. Southern Miss has consistently out-recruited us, even though the last time I looked our athletic budget was a little higher than theirs. Outside of a culture of losing in FB, there are so many positives around the UNT campus. There should be no excuses about why it is hard to recruit here, compared to other CUSA teams. Maybe there is something that I am missing as I am not as closely tied to the big name decision makers in our program. But, I just don't see any big issues holding us back at UNT. The students are finally on-board, we need to ride that wave. If this year turns into a meltdown matching USM in 2012, I don't see any way changes are not made. Too much time, effort and money has been spent trying to turn things around here at UNT. Not making a change is going to cost the university a lot more in the future. USM did it, so can we. The only difference between USM and UNT have to do with a winning culture. Was it easy for USM to buy-out the contract ? No, but they got creative. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/21192118/report-southern-miss-gives-up-home-game-to-pay-ellis-johnsons-buyout Of course, school officials said they have the money and that the Nebraska game income was not required. This is an interesting read. http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/article/20121208/NEWS01/312080020/Lucas-addresses-Johnson-contract-buyout I know that a lot of people are upset with the direction of our basketball program, as we are down from the JJ years. But, at least we are expected to be competitive in BB. Our FB program is in dire straights. I appreciate everything that our coaches and players have done here at UNT. They are all hard workers and have done their best to represent the school. Our students are much more involved and a lot of that has to do with our head coach. However, I don't like it when our coach makes comments like "it's hard to recruit at North Texas". Yeah, it's hard to recruit against the P5 here for obvious reasons (mid-major athletic budget). It should not be hard to recruit against the rest of the G5 programs.

This plain and simple.

Coaching Hot Seat Rankings (10-6-15)
akriesman replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
Todd Berry has a better record at ULM than Mac does at North Texas. That guy probably has the worst recruiting situation in FBS and a 43% win PCT is pretty damn good IMO. He has also managed to knock off a few big boys along the way. -
Being the best QB in practice is like being the best NFL team in preseason. The reality is that nothing counts until the real games start.
-
The low ranking is partially understandable when a player is a freshman or sophomore starting his first season. I am just stunned at our situation. It's almost unbelievable.
