  1. Oh my. If Harper comes to UNT, things will get exciting for lots of reasons.
  2. To me, the Fine / Pirtle relationship on the field is going to be one of the more exciting things to watch. I know that Jason may not be the fastest and most sought after WR coming out of HS. But, one can never underestimate chemistry.
  3. Thank you ! Seth and his staff have done a really nice job. But it is WAY too early to being talking about this. Not even close.
  4. LOL. This was the first thing I thought of also when reading his post. Going to another teams forum would be one of the last things to enter my mind.
  5. I think you are taking him too literally. A coach singling out any one player is never a good idea. If the question had been directed towards the running game in general, he may have answered differently. I agree that Wilson is one of our top players. But, he still has less than 1/2 of the overall carries on this team (including Fine).
  6. The North Texas battle flag is the coolest, most unique thing we have going for us IMO., I agree this needs to be brought to Wren's attention.
  7. WOW. I thought that game was over and OSU had just won. Holy crap. There have been several G1/FCS schools scaring the pants off of high ranked teams today. Could WKU give Alabama more than they expected ?
  8. I was very near the play as a few others were. I was shocked that our smaller DB's tried to catch the ball instead of knocking it down. It is much easier to disrupt Courtland Sutton than it is to try and out muscle him for the ball. I do criticize the coaching a bit on that one as they should have been prepared. I certainly saw the Hail Mary coming.
  9. Thanks for getting it. I saw Morris make throws that I haven't seen in a long time here. There were a lot of tight windows where he put the ball on the money and it required arm strength to get there.. He did miss a couple of wide open receivers who could have had big plays. But, he was also under some heavy pressure. I am really shocked at all the negativity regarding Morris. After the last 2 years of really horrid QB play here, I would have thought people would be a little more patient. The guy was still 24/39 for 237. The 3 picks really hurt his passer rating. Morris is going to have some big games IMO. And, of course Fine gives us some hope for the future I had low expectations coming into this year. Frankly, I actually feel a little better about this team than I did going into the game. Big plays really hurt us. Giving up a 3rd and 45 TD and a 92 yard TD (on 3rd and 11) will kill anybody's momentum. Those are freak plays that should not happen. Tweak a few things and we should at least be a very competitive team this year. That is building momentum, which is exactly what I want to see this year. Courtland Sutton has NFL caliber WR potential. He abused us tonight on just 4 catches.
  10. 3-9. The last couple of recruiting classes has just left the cupboard a little bare.
  11. #1 I hope that the players don't get down on themselves if the season starts out a little rough. There is a new offense, defense and a ton of new players. It is going to take some time. #2 I hope that the team plays inspired and is entertaining enough early on to keep the fans in their seats. #3 Build some momentum as the season progresses. It all about building momentum this year.
  12. Great article. The one thing that is evident is that all of these coaches are in-sync with each other. They are young and speak the same language. That should pay off in more ways than one.
  13. '" Freshman have to live on campus, giving them a chance to become part of the fabric and learn all there is to take advantage of. " I don't know when this was implemented exactly. But, it has been a great thing to help rid us of the commuter school tag. The school has done wonders with getting freshmen involved since I was a student.
  14. I checked Zepher online and didn't see the hat. I want one of these also. Can it be purchased locally ?
  15. "Our coaching staff has more double consonants than yours - Littrell / Harrell in 2016"
  16. If coach Littrell and his staff can just get some positive momentum out of this first season, I think the next few years are going to bring some exciting football to Denton. The turning around of this program is not just going to be based on wins and losses this season. The staff is going to have to instill confidence in the kids and make them believe that good things are coming, which should spill over to the all-important recruiting 2017 recruiting season. I am just thankful to have a youthful coaching staff who is installing a fun offense for both players and fans. The TD era was a failure. But, Dodge put butts in the seats and got people excited until the losses really mounted and the blatant coaching mistakes starting becoming obvious to even the casual football fans in attendance.
  17. I mentioned this in another thread. With our offense philosophy, we are going to need to give coach Ekeler and his guys a break when calling them out for having poor stats. Chip Kelly is a prime example and I have seen all of the Eagles games over the last 3 years with him as coach. If your passing the ball a lot and resorting to quick snap counts, the defense gets absolutely winded if your offense has a lot of quick 3 and outs. Sometimes Chip's defense can barely make it to the bench before they are back out on the field. I personally love the spread in college and think it can be more of an equalizer for G5 schools against the P5's. But, your offense has to be clicking on all cylinders for it not to be a liability to your defense. My concern with 2016 is that the spread offense here at NT is going to take some time to gel. In the meantime, our defense is going to spend a lot of time on the field, which is really going to wear them out. Its just a matter of growing pains and we are going to have a lot of them this year IMO. I am excited about this coaching staff and the future. But, this season could be a little hard to watch at times. Hopefully, the fans will understand this is going to be a work in progress. Could we be looking at another Hal Mumme situation when he was with New Mexico St in 2004 ? " In December 2004 Mumme was named the head coach at Division I-A New Mexico State University, replacing Tony Samuel. Samuel had run an option offense at the school and the transition to Mumme's passing offense was difficult. New Mexico State finished 0–12 in Mumme's first season (2005). "
  18. Because of the spread offense, it could be a little difficult to judge the defense next season. To really judge the team defense, we are going to have to look more at yds/play and not total yards and points given up. I always feel a little bad for defensive coordinators playing on a team with a spread offense, because the defense typically spends so much time on the field. I hope people factor that in when the team gives up a buttload of points. Hiopefully, our offense scores a double buttload of points :)
  19. So now we know who actually has The Amber Room ;)
  20. I think this all goes back to communication with alumni. If you are not a GMG forum member, how else were you going to hear about this event ? The only media attention that it seemed to get was after the actual meeting took place. I agree that our fan base is apathetic, especially now. But, this event could have been much better attended with a little more publicity. On the other hand, I am not sure that they wanted a lot of people to show up. IMO, this event was probably staged in part to attempt to quell the negativity coming from this forum. I am not being critical of anyone here. Just making an observation. The hardcore UNT fans are all right here.
  21. I think this is another case of "you don't really know what you had, until you lose it". I remember the UAB fan base being pretty apathetic before they lost their team. But, you have to give them credit for roaring back like they are.
  22. A big thank you to all of you who took the time to attend this meeting yesterday. And, a big thank you to the university for reaching out to the fans in a candid manner. This is all definitely a step in the right direction.
  23. Even in that 43-6 game, our QB play was atrocious and misleading. The few mid range passes that were completed were ducks and the receivers had to dive or come back for the ball. All of the other completions were basically screens. SMU was just so bad on defense. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to watching a NT game where I am not cringing anytime the QB drops back to pass.
  24. I am not worried about QB at all with this coaching staff. That aspect of things will work out one way or another. I have faith. Defense would be more of a question for me as the next few years go by.
  25. Good lord we were dreadful last year. I knew it was bad. But, I had already put last season out of my head until at looked at those scores again. Yikes. But hey, we gave UTEP a fight before going down ;) P.S.-Those individual passing stats pretty much tell the story. Even with a stout defense, we were not going to win many games with those kind of numbers. Thank god we have a new staff. Can you imagine what it would be like if Mac was allowed to finish out his contract ?
