Official SMU Game Score Prediction Thread
akriesman replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
I so badly want a win at Ford Stadium this saturday. This game seems like a tossup for the most part.. But, SMU has 2 distinct advantages on Saturday: 1) Courtland Sutton 2) Home field advantage I think our guys will give it everything they have and make a game of it. But, I saw enough of Sutton last year to know he is something special. 38-27 SMU :( P.S.-If Wilson goes wild on saturday, this could be a nail biter at the end. -
I was watching the local Beaumont news this morning. They were saying that they expected Neches river to finally crest sometime on Friday. So, trying to get out today seems like the best idea to me. Looking at the closed roads, I also thought the easiest way out was to the east. However, this is going to end up being a long and stressful trip for them. It's going to be a strange game, most likely with a lot more chivalry than you would normally find in football game.

Lamar sportswriter: UNT game "should" be cancelled

Thanks for passing that on. As anxious as we are to get the season started on Saturday, I think a vast majority of North Texas fans completely understand the situation down there. Safety first. -
Lamar sportswriter: UNT game "should" be cancelled

I was so looking forward to the opener on saturday. But, its time to just cancel this thing. Way too much for the Lamar team to overcome. -
BREAKING: Lamar game may "possibly" be cancelled per Lamar HC
akriesman replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I am really surprised the game has not been postponed already. Lots of road closures i Beaumont right now. http://kfdm.com/traffic Still getting heavy rain right now, at least until later today. http://kfdm.com/weather/radar Who knows how long it will take for the flooding to go down after the rain stops. Not only do you have to factor in the difficulty of the team practicing and getting out of town in time, But, you have to factor in all the more personal humane factors mentioned in this thread. I really believe that everybody affiliated with Lamar is trying their best to get this game played on saturday. But, it's time to reschedule IMO. Besides, do we really want to play a team that is going through a lot of possible mental anguish right now ? It would be pretty hard to cheer against them at Apogee on saturday :( -
BREAKING: Lamar game may "possibly" be cancelled per Lamar HC
akriesman replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, I just saw the weather for Beaumont. For the most part, the rain should start to leave early tomorrow afternoon. Lets get this thing out of Texas, so that people can begin the long process of getting their lives back together., -

This is what early reports seem to be saying. Major Applewhite just said "Its about our city". -

Do you mean originally ? Because I keep seeing that it was scheduled for the Alamodome. Am I missing something ? -

YEah. They were supposed to play at UTSA. It would seem to be identical to our situation :( -

DRC: Lingering questions as UNT nears end of camp
akriesman replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I have a question. What exactly has caused us to still be short on the # of scholarships. Does this have something to do with all the JUCO signings ? After thinking about it. It is probably more due to players leaving the team. Correct ? -
Which team are you most disgusted to lose to?
akriesman replied to casual fan's topic in Mean Green Football
For me, it's not about the schools themselves. Its the attitude of the fans on a general basis. As everyone already knows, most SMU fans are smug and still living in the past, (when they cheated to be good). They may always be #1 for me. UTSA fans are generally obnoxious, even without any real history or growing pains. #2 and rapidly climbing, The rest I see just as normal opponents. I have a bit of a soft spot for UAB, considering big brother Alabama tried to shut them down out of fear. Most Tech fans online seem pretty cool and educated about the game. Besides, they hate ULL and ULM, not us. Southern Miss got shafted when the AAC was formed. I can see why they would be a little upset to still be in CUSA. Its hard to dislike Rice much. They were beaten down for so many years in the SWC, that the fans seem to have fragile egos just like we do :) -
Scrappy Wins Mid-Major Madness Tourney
akriesman replied to Magic95Fan's topic in Mean Green Football
When I first transferred to NT in about 84/85 or so, my assigned dorm roommate also wore the Eppy suit. When I first opened the closet door, this "bird" costume fell out and I remember thinking "what the hell ?". LOL. I knew nothing about NT sports at the time or their mascot. I have always wondered , do people rotate being Eppy or Scrappy during the season ? Or, are you the mascot for the entire season ? -
The worst case scenario would be getting stung by Lamar at home to open the season. I fully expect our team and staff to be ready for Lamar and take care of business. But, I am not going to overlook anyone, especially after the Portland State debacle. I have been a NT fan since the mid-80's and the Portland State game stands out as the most humiliating event in my lifetime. II's not that they lost to Portland State, its the way they lost.

I totally agree with the author's choices. This logo just cracks me up every time I see it :)

Wow. I don't know if they just showed the highlights in that clip. But, that is some serious coaching. I am impressed. Thanks for sharing that.

My favorite part of the article.... "Did you know?: Baker has a reputation in college athletics for being meticulous and is considered a go-to source for information on potential head coaches. Baker keeps a spreadsheet with potential coaching candidates, their teams' yearly record, conference record, playoff record and scores on the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate report in addition to their Rating Percentage Index (RPI) scores, which measure a team's overall strength based on its record and strength of schedule. Baker updates a spreadsheet with the information regularly."

North Texas vs. Southern Miss (Locker Room Edition)
akriesman replied to cdizzle86's topic in Mean Green Football
It looks like the locker room arms race has dropped down to the G5 schools. There is a lot to be proud of regarding the facilities work that has been done at NT over the last 10 years. However, our "new" locker room pictures need to be yanked from all publications and media ASAP. -
I cringe a bit every time I open up a football thread these days. I keep thinking that one of these days something good is going to happen and things won't be so adversarial all the time. Perhaps anger is probably better than apathy though.....I guess Fortunately, the Battle Flag won the vote and we can at least celebrate the small victories. So, that is what I am going to do......

Looking at Kason Martin, UNT's Newest Quarterback Commitment

Yep. The Philadelphia Eagles have done this with Carson Wentz in the offseason. It is definitely fixable. -
Fans To Vote For Flag Design Outside Apogee Stadium
akriesman replied to meangreen15's topic in Mean Green Football
Wow ! That is one awesome looking Lacrosse helmet. "it pissed off the UT crowd" <-- Another great reason for using the battle flag. -
Very true. On the other hand, all they needed was to make 1 play at the end (HOD vs Army) and they go out on a winning note. I really thought they had that game after coming back. If NT wins that last Army game, I wonder how much higher they would be projected ? A single play probably cost them about 15 to 20 spots, not that it really matters anyway.

Fans To Vote For Flag Design Outside Apogee Stadium
akriesman replied to meangreen15's topic in Mean Green Football
This basically sums it up for me. Everyone knows the Texas state flag and just about everyone knows North Texas as the Mean Green. The beauty of the flag is in its subtlety. You can find the words "North Texas" all around campus and along I-35. Just about every other school puts the mascot and/or school name on their flags. The NT battle flag is unique to me and those varying shades of green represent our school history well IMO. Think about the battle flag TShirts. When people look at a TShirt with the battle flag on it, I think it catches their attention because you have to think for a moment about what it is representing (green Texas flag ? mean green ? ahhh North Texas I get it). Everyone sees TShirts with college names on them. I think after a time your brain just dismisses them. But, a green Texas flag ? They have to put some effort into figuring it out. Just MHO. Perhaps I have overestimated it's appreciation over the last 1/2 decade. Plus, its the offseason and there is nothing exciting to talk about.
