I know a lot of people, especially UTSA fans, are critical of the blitzing calls on that last drive. But, I think they were the right call. How many times do you see teams go into a prevent defense, only to be carved up by the QB because there is no pressure on him. This is especially true in college where a first down stops the clock. In fact, I think the 50 yard pass play happened when the D was in a prevent. 1 minute in college can seem like an eternity when you are trying to protect a lead (but having to go 98 yards in that time is pretty crazy). The UTSA D brought the pressure and got the results they were looking for. Sometimes, you just have to give credit to the QB (Fine) for making the plays. Heck, there are QB's in the NFL that don't make those quick reads/releases. Just an amazing job by Fine and the WR's, more than it was a break down by the UTSA D. UTSA's D played things perfectly IMO except for 2 big mistakes: 1) Letting Lawrence come down with that long pass when he was in tight coverage. 2) The UTSA player taking a bad angle and letting Bussey get to the outside on the game winning pass.

I still cannot believe what I witnessed at Apogee tonight. Greatest sporting event comeback that I have seen live.

23,650 I still think most casual fans will think UTSA is some kind of community college. They would of course be correct :)

I totally have to echo what Chris Fisher said. Making it easy for UNT students to attend the game is absolutely critical. There are probably thousands of them literally on the fence about attending. My son is one of them and not a huge football fan in general. I keep telling him to get a student ticket ahead of time and support his school. But, he keeps saying it is too hard. So, I have to buy him a ticket a ticket if I want him to show up. I am not sure about the difficulty of getting a ticket and my son may be just trying to weasel out of attending. But, that is the impression he has anyways. And negative impressions spread. I don't know the logistics or difficulty in managing student tickets. But if there is a problem, I have no doubt Wren will address this. If the problems of the past have been fixed, then they really need to make sure the students know that getting a ticket is now easy for them.

I honestly think FAU will be one of the tougher matches, along with UTSA, La Tech and Army. I would put UTEP and Old Dominion in the next level, with Rice most likely being the weakest opponent at the bottom.

How does this 2017 UNT team compare to the 2013 team?
akriesman replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't want to name individual players. But, I would like to see the 2013 defense, with the 2017 offense and Littrell running the show.- 46 replies

That list needs some serious work. FIU ? They have played nobody. Charlotte is really bad and FIU barely took them yesterday.

Well. Everyone said that Littrell was an offensive guru when he came here. This team is starting to show signs of that in year 2. -

DRC Sunday column: UNT's struggles against SMU a talent issue
akriesman replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
For two years now the big difference IMO has been Courtland Sutton. He impacts the game more than just the 7 TD's he has against us in 2 games. Sutton sure looks like a first round NFL pick. SMU totally hit on that guy and he was only a 3* recruit out of high school. I am convinced that if Sutton alone switched sides yesterday, the results would have swung the other way. In the game predictions I said Sutton would be the difference. But, he was more of a beast than I even thought he would be. -
Official SMU Game Score Prediction Thread
akriesman replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
I so badly want a win at Ford Stadium this saturday. This game seems like a tossup for the most part.. But, SMU has 2 distinct advantages on Saturday: 1) Courtland Sutton 2) Home field advantage I think our guys will give it everything they have and make a game of it. But, I saw enough of Sutton last year to know he is something special. 38-27 SMU :( P.S.-If Wilson goes wild on saturday, this could be a nail biter at the end. -
I was watching the local Beaumont news this morning. They were saying that they expected Neches river to finally crest sometime on Friday. So, trying to get out today seems like the best idea to me. Looking at the closed roads, I also thought the easiest way out was to the east. However, this is going to end up being a long and stressful trip for them. It's going to be a strange game, most likely with a lot more chivalry than you would normally find in football game.

Lamar sportswriter: UNT game "should" be cancelled
akriesman replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Thanks for passing that on. As anxious as we are to get the season started on Saturday, I think a vast majority of North Texas fans completely understand the situation down there. Safety first. -

I was so looking forward to the opener on saturday. But, its time to just cancel this thing. Way too much for the Lamar team to overcome. -
BREAKING: Lamar game may "possibly" be cancelled per Lamar HC
akriesman replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I am really surprised the game has not been postponed already. Lots of road closures i Beaumont right now. http://kfdm.com/traffic Still getting heavy rain right now, at least until later today. http://kfdm.com/weather/radar Who knows how long it will take for the flooding to go down after the rain stops. Not only do you have to factor in the difficulty of the team practicing and getting out of town in time, But, you have to factor in all the more personal humane factors mentioned in this thread. I really believe that everybody affiliated with Lamar is trying their best to get this game played on saturday. But, it's time to reschedule IMO. Besides, do we really want to play a team that is going through a lot of possible mental anguish right now ? It would be pretty hard to cheer against them at Apogee on saturday :( -

akriesman replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, I just saw the weather for Beaumont. For the most part, the rain should start to leave early tomorrow afternoon. Lets get this thing out of Texas, so that people can begin the long process of getting their lives back together., -

DRC: Lingering questions as UNT nears end of camp
akriesman replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I have a question. What exactly has caused us to still be short on the # of scholarships. Does this have something to do with all the JUCO signings ? After thinking about it. It is probably more due to players leaving the team. Correct ?
