Man. We needed that FG to miss. Would have been great position. Come on offense. The time is now.
-
No pressure at all on their QB, who is not that good.
-
Fans getting into the game....not good. Our offense is struggling a bit. D is going to start tiring. Ready for halftime myself.
-
I hope Seth does not let the team have a "hold on" attitude, or they will lose. They need to really believe they can beat Arkansas and not try and hold on.
-
The only thing working for Arkansas is batting down Mason's passes.
-
This game feels very strange. Our guys don't seem intimidated by this SEC team at all.
-
So far, SEC officials have been very fair.
-
I was thinking that they might at least try and make us beat them on the ground. If they can control our run game with just the front 3 or 4, we could be in trouble. Mason is good, but not houdini.
-
I don't think we are going to run the ball very well against Arkansas, which I am sure most will agree with. I would like to see us come out slinging the ball to get an early advantage, put them on their heels and quiet the fans. Then, control the clock with short passes, mixed in with a few runs to keep them honest. Is there anyone here that really thinks we are going to be able to run against Arkansas, when we couldn't against SMU and IW ? We need to run only to set up the pass. We won't beat them running the ball.

Late, Overcrowded Shuttles Reported at UNT vs. SMU Game
akriesman replied to Skipper's topic in Mean Green Football
I saw this also while being stuck on Bonnie Brae headed to the blue lot. It looked like people were getting off the shuttles early and walking. Smart move on their part.- 21 replies

Late, Overcrowded Shuttles Reported at UNT vs. SMU Game
akriesman replied to Skipper's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, there were some major issues with handling the crowds during the SMU game. I was frustrated myself. But, it is a good problem to have. I have no doubt that the administration will fix things, provided that we fans continue to fill the stadium.- 21 replies

Conference USA Week 3 Opening Lines
akriesman replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
Looks like it could be a tough week for the conference overall. If the lines turn into the actual results, CUSA would be 1-8 this week, not counting the conference game (charlotte/ODU) and FAU (no line, but should win easily).- 4 replies

It was an hour for me also brother. I won't park in the blue lot again this year. I would rather park in the orange and walk. And, I did have a prepaid parking pass 😞

DRC: UNT picked up commitment from DE (updated with story)
akriesman replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
This !!! Frankly, I don't know how SMU pulls in the recruits they do with their horrible "butts in seats" attendance. -
DRC weekly prediction: UNT will hammer Incarnate Word
akriesman replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I think we will try and get the running game working early, which could slow down the scoring if we only get 3 or 4 YPC. Once the passing game gets going though, look out because the score could climb quickly. I am going to say 48-17. -
That Liberty game has at least opened my eyes after they destroyed ODU. Not sure if they are that good or ODU is that bad. I am thinking it could be the latter. Liberty really did not finish last year very well. And, their recruiting is still FCS level. It could be that ODU had their "Portland state" game last week and they are just plain bad. If that is the case, its not good for CUSA, which already has some really bad teams. Fortunately, we are no longer among them. I certainly don't miss seeing our guys in the bottom 10. Liberty plays at Army this week. That should tell us a lot more about that team.
-
I have been thinking this same thing. It seems like our running game is always ahead of passing game for as long as I can remember, with the exception of a couple of years when they were probably equal. Think of what a healthy Jeffrey Wilson would add to the team this year. Yikes.

DRC Monday column: For UNT fans, it's OK to dream big now
akriesman replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
This team is nothing like that 2015 team. That team crushed SMU despite the fact that our QB play looked really average (or worse). Mason is special and he is playing the most important position on the field. Our passing game is going to roll all season long IMO. They probably won't be as dominant as last night. But, they will be a force in every game. I am most concerned with our running game though. We still don't have a back that stands out. Last night it was all Mason and the WR's. We have to at least have the defense respect the run a little bit. Was our defense that good ? We will find that out soon enough. But, the running game was really poor IMO. And, SMU is no juggernaut on defense. -
OMG. Most here are too young to remember. But, the first thing I thought of when seeing this was those old NY Life commercials.
-
First, I agree with those that say last night was a slightly bigger crowd. Matt's picture above should prove that. And, I was at both games like most here. I also agree that there were a lot of people milling around out of their seats. And, I think there was a good reason for that. The game could not have gone better (except for the garbage TD's). But, the staff, vendors and even us fans were obviously not prepared for the crowd last night. I went with my son who had to work in the afternoon. I picked him up and arrived near Apogee at 5:55pm and we thought we had plenty of time because our parking was in the blue lot. But, we did not get to a parking spot until 6:45pm. Almost 1 hour stuck in traffic that barely moved. And, there was an endless line of cars behind us still waiting to get in at 6:45pm. While in traffic I saw people getting angry, yelling at the attendants and making crazy driving moves (as the game started) trying to gain an edge. About 8 minutes before half, we hit the concessions to grab some food, realizing that halftime was going to be nuts. It didn't matter. The food lines were crazy and it was the middle of halftime before we got our food. And, the place we got our food from first ran out of pizza, then the chicken nugget platter and drinks kept running out. This is even before the halftime crowd. What was even crazier was that I saw 3 different shouting matches between fans the the concessions vendors because of service issues. I have never been to a game at Apogee where I saw tempers flaring like they did yesterday. I never even got my beloved game day beer, because I didn't want to miss any more of the game ( I made up for it once I got home to celebrate...LOL). Anyway, I think a lot of people missed a good portion of the game being stuck in traffic and concession lines. That aspect was worse than the Houston opener IMO. That might explain stadium never looking completely full at any time. Too many people out of their seats. I was thrilled with the crowd, atmosphere and results. But, we may have lost some fans because of the problems with traffic and concessions. If you not arriving early enough to tailgate, I certainly don't recommend the blue lot these days. I would rather park in the orange lot and walk any day. One thing I will add. The TV's at the concession lines are a must. There would be nothing more frustrating than missing any of the game in the concession line. Some of the TV's were out, but most were working. In the end though, these are problems that I am sure can be worked out if we continue to get good attendance. One more comment.....While the total attendance between last night and the Houston opener may be close. I think we can all agree that there were more UNT fans last night than ever. It is embarrassing that SMU, with their location in Dallas, cannot bring more fans than Houston did. But, looking at Matt's picture, SMU brought 1/2 as many as Houston.

UConn RB Nate Hopkins has transferred to UNT
akriesman replied to @UNTSportsFan's topic in Mean Green Football
If he stays on as a RB, don't be misled by his YPC. Its tough to have a good YPC when you are only used near the goal line. -
DRC: Friday Q&A with Billy Embody of Pony Stampede
akriesman replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
In their last game (bowl) they lost 51-10 to LT. And, they lost so much talent. NFL players at G5 schools are much more rare, but much more dominant at that level, than the P5's. Those guys SMU lost were THE reason for beating us the last 2 years. Every time they through up a jump ball to Sutton, I knew he was going to come down with it. And, he did. I have no doubt that SMU will eventually be a pretty good team with the staff they now have. And, they have the top G5 recruiting class for 2019 (just ahead of us). This is the perfect time to catch them. This is our best chance and we have to take advantage of it. Home game with a large crowd. An SMU team that has not played together in a real game. And, we roll out the same offense (minus 1 NFL caliber RB) as last year. We just need to win. While a blowout would be great, a 1 point win is still a win, especially considering the lopsided record against these guys. I don't care how we win, just win baby. -
Brune did a fantastic job last year. He is a great choice for 24/7.
-
Last year UNT games went over 71 in exactly 1/2 the games. including the SMU game. This would seem to be a duplicate of last years game, hopefully with a reversed score though. I am taking the over on this one also as both offenses seem way ahead of the defenses. I just cant take UNT and give 3.5 points though. This is a tough game to figure out as SMU has a lot of talent also. It seems almost dead even to me and the team that turns the ball over will probably come out on the short side.
-
I totally agree with this. They may be more talented than they were last year (but no Sutton....thank you universe). I just think we will be better prepared for this one and take it by a hair. Of course, stomping them would be so much more fun.
