Smart move by CSU and AFA. Unfortunate news for UNT.

Nothing against the AAC, as I would love for UNT to be a member. But, it makes no sense for CSU and AFA to join the AAC, especially when schools are trying to regionalize more. Plus, they lose their long time rivalries. With that said, I was hoping they would go to the AAC, to free up the possibility of NT, Rice, UTSA and UTEP going to the MWC together. If SMU had gone to the Big 12, I would like our chances of getting into the AAC, being in the Dallas market.

I am not thrilled with playing the current MWC members and a lot of it has to do with perceived distance. I remember the Big West days all too well. However, with the weak CUSA leadership, it is becoming almost a necessity to try and leave. The MWC is generally seen as the 7th most powerful conference out of 10. If they were to expand and add UNT, UTSA, Rice and UTEP, I would be all for it. We would still have Texas schools as travel partners, in a more stable conference (if there is such a thing).

IMO, this is probably the most likely reason. Those contracts are pathetic. Who is responsible ? Judy ? The universities ? Both ? I am guessing it's a little of both. But, isn't it Judy's job to promote the conference and seek better contracts ? When a sports team struggles for an extended time, the coach is replaced whether or not they are directly responsible for the decline. In this case, CUSA has seen a steady decline since Judy took over almost 6 years ago. 6 years is about 3 years too many. She has to go, or we do.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. That is certainly interesting and I am sure you are correct when it comes to the schools being mostly at fault. I will say though, I think the commissioner, much like the president of the United States, is a figurehead and public perception does matter. Judy is far too silent on important issues I believe Her silence makes her seem weak and/or lazy, even if she is working hard behind the scenes. Just MHO.

This is all such a mess. I don't think anyone has a clue what is going to happen next. I would be fine with CUSA for now, except for Judy. She is sinking the conference while others are moving forward. Her silence on so many issues says it all. I understand that this could be a sensitive subject. But, I am not sure how to put it in any other terms. There may be hesitancy among the various schools in CUSA when it comes to firing Judy. After all, she is the first female FBS commissioner. I would hope that the person in charge would be judged solely on their achievements. I am not saying there is anything to this. But, I do find it strange that Judy has managed to hang around so long, when so many CUSA members seem to be silently looking to bolt. If CUSA ends up losing members to the Sun Belt, that should raise a massively huge red flag when it comes to our commissioner. CUSA used to be looked at as an upgrade over the Sun Belt, MAC (and WAC at the time). It's not anymore. And, it's not the universities in the Sun Belt that are a draw over CUSA. So, there is something inherently wrong with CUSA leadership.

It's not just the QB. It is the QB and WR's together that have been awful. Aune's legs kept this game close, not his passing. Also, where is the track speed from Ruder ? Aune looks much faster and more mobile than Ruder.

Aune was a big spark tonight, but only because Ruder was so bad. Still, I give him credit for rallying the team. Many of the problems were not his fault. Which leads me to..... What the heck is wrong with our WR's ? Where is the talent. Maybe some of it is injuries. But, this may be the worst performing group of WR's that I have ever seen at NT. They don't get any separation. They can't come down with contested balls. And, they drop easy catches on occasion. What a job by the defense though. If we would have pulled this one out, it would have been the most unexpected win in program history, considering the fact that were down 24-0 and have had 8 horrible quarters going back to the 2nd quarter of the SMU game. In the end, they showed some fight and kept from being embarrassed again.

Our WRs (not injured) get no real separation and can’t make difficult catches (and sometimes easy ones) I appreciate the fight the team is showing. But damn, They could be back in this ball game is not for critical drops.

I had hoped that Ruder's talent would eventually come through. But, his mechanics and confidence level are terrible right now. It's Aune's show and Ruder needs to sit for a while. If Aune starts to really struggle, we have other options. Ruder may eventually be the starting QB here. But, he needs complete reprogramming before seeing the field again.
