  1. So, Travis, tell me how we are better off.
  2. I'm just wondering if we would really be better off in CUSA. We have seen Tulsa come to Fouts, and they were not a huge draw for our students. I cannot see where our fan base will be any more excited about playing UTEP and Tulane than they are now about playing Middle Tennesse and Troy. The whole point of joining CUSA was to play Houston and SMU every year. So, without them, is CUSA really better?
  3. Nickel back #6 Hilbert Jackson played about 30 plays. He set up the first INT by covering the TE on a vertical route toward the UNT sideline, getting a collision on the TE to destroy the timing, and allowing the top coverage to make the pick. Nice day for Hilbert overall.
  4. Tough call, since I have 3 of my babies up there now (#6 Hilbert Jackson, #98 Daryl Mason, and #99 Terrell Brooks). I'll take #6 Hilbert Jackson since he was my first. I can highly recommend both Mason and Brooks.
  5. I coached the boy and can tell you he is one terrific kid.
  6. I asked some to the NT staff and even they were not sure about those white helmets. I was assured that we WILL have green helmets. I guess those can go on the shelf as odd collector's items, but that is all they are.
  7. Actually, he left us once before. He was here for the a couple of the bowl years, left, came back, and left again late last July. The point being that you could tell (at least I could) when he was here and when he was not. Our line play was better back then. Maybe it was the players he recruited, maybe it was the coaching, but better it was.
  8. Notice how our O-Line blew the Sooners off the ball. Have not seen that since Leftwich left us. I think our new O-Line coach will fix that quickly. It will be nice to see us get physical and actually win the trench war. It may take a little bit, but I really look forward to that.
  9. Back in 1997, we had to dismiss a player from the high school team I coached for MIP. I explained to him that one of two things were happening: 1) He couldn't quit drinking had therefore had a drinking problem that needed to be addressed or 2) He was VERY selfish and put his wants/needs ahead of the team. Either way, he had to go. A violation of team rules severe enough to warrant a dismissal kinda falls along with the logic I used back then. He needs to solve whatever the problem is, but either way, he needs to be gone.
  10. It looks like there is still room available at each entry level. Just wondering, will all of these have to be sold for the game to be considered a "sell out"?
  11. I agree that he left the program better in a lot of ways. And, without more injuries than any program could survive, I think he had a chance at a winning season last year. However, the only place he ever won on a consistent basis was a Southlake. Easy to do with better players and facilities than everyone else. It is probably best for us that he didn't win last year. He is a good guy and I wish him well, but he was never going to take us to the level that McCarney will. I'm glad he landed on his feet and I wish him all the success that Jerry Moore has found.... somewhere else.
  12. I'm going to have a great big belly laugh when this all settles. Either A.) One or more of these schools is going to have to hold their nose and ask to joing the Belt, or B.) they all decide to sink together and The Belt will be a far superior conference in a very short time. Either way.... too funny!
  13. I was talking to one of the current players and he said a lot of team members want the current "eagle" on the helmet. I told him that I'm not in favor of that. What finally convinced me was a picture in the DMN a few years ago along with an article about a former longhorn QB. The picture showed a NT player from the "flying worm" era. Few people know that is us. I understand where you are coming from, but I'm tired of rebranding. Our last 3 helmets have "NORTH TEXAS" on them. I say stick with it.... and pick a green.
  14. Keep in mind when you are looking at the seat selection that there are about 600 Mean Green members in the Club level and even more in the Suite level. Include all those members, and the lower bowl would appear much more full. Just a thought.
  15. We picked our seats today. Without a doubt, this was the most "first class" thing I've ever seen at North Texas. Everything was done right.
  16. And it is especially great since JT didn't play WR at NTSU. He was a DB.
  17. That game vs. Texas is the reason I don't care if we ever play them again. They are NOT going to let us win... even if they have to cheat. And they will not care if the entire country knows they cheated.
  18. I got the wrong one too. For some reason, I really wasn't surprised. It is just the sort of thing they continue to do. It will be interesting to see who falls on their sword for this one.
  19. I don't care if we EVER play the Longhorns again. After we had them beat, and the officials would not let it happen, I lost all desire to play Texas. They can schedule Ohio State every week for all I care. I agree that we should go to Kansas St. They didn't look down their noses at us and came to Denton. The word I keep hearing is that we don't play @LSU and such for the money, but for recruiting. Kids want to hear that we are playing Alabama and Iowa, and not so much Louisiana Monroe.
  20. Is he also a position coach?
  21. It is my understanding that they will only be on the Club level.
  22. Too funny... and an excellent point.
  23. When I talked to Mandy McKinley, she was very clear that the "Deck" was going away. It may not have been announced with any kind of fanfare, but I don't think it was ever intended to be a secret either.
  24. I think we have also hired another secondary coach for the corners. I think his name is Gaines and he is from Montana State.
  25. Does anyone know if we have hired or named anyone as the recruiting coordinator?
