It really hurt me to read that the 'Horns wouldn't go bowling.....maybe because I was laughing so hard it hurt.

Tee Goree & Willie Robinson No Longer On Roster
UNT86 replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
I read where the Dolphins cut a guy during practice on Wednesday this week when they learned of his arrest on Tuesday night. The coach said that too many people put in too much time and effort to put up with guys that were not pulling the same direction as everyone else. I have no problem with letting guys go for rules violations. A spoonful of sewage in a barrel of wine makes the whole thing undrinkable. Get on board or get gone. There is no place for selfish decisions (see last year's #9 for more evidence).- 29 replies

Let's all hope for an unmotivated UTEP.

There are first level stunts run by the defensive line such as a twist or a slant. They may be run independent of the linebackers or in combination. A blitz is a second level stunt run by the linebackers. There is no such thing as a "run blitz". All stunts must be gap sound and be able to withstand a run or a pass by the offense. Some stunts are triggered by a specific key on the offense. If you don't get the key, you don't run the stunt. There are also third level stunts run by the secondary. A "run blitz" is fiction since you cannot predetermine what the offensive play is when you call the stunt. All stunts are designed to disrupt the blocking scheme or the natural timing of an offensive play... run or pass. Don't let the knucklehead announcers on television fool you. They know not what they are talking about.
-
No such thing. A blitz is a stunt. It doesn't care whether the play is a run or a pass and should be sound against both. We stunted a lot against Marshall with success. Saw a few against So. Miss., but they were able to pick them up. Just make UTEP throw.... and try to score one more than they get. That's all I care about this week.

And named after Mirabeau Lamar... First Vice-President of the Republic of Texas...Second President of the Republic of Texas.... veteran of San Jacinto... just in case it ever comes up in casual conversation.

One thing I saw on the first offensive play of the game was Maia Chaka running in to tell our LT to get on the line of scrimmage. Later, both the HL and the LJ called us for illegal formation. That is not on them, it is on us. It is an advantage when the offensive linemen don't have to be on the line of scrimmage. If you have an inside receiver with his feet on the same line as the offensive tackle, either both are on or both are off. How hard is it to line up right? I would have liked to have this crew in San Antonio. They at least called So. Miss for the pick route. If we get that call in San Antonio, I think we win that game. The BJ in the middle of the field was the worst. There isn't any way he should call pass interference on contact that occurs outside the numbers. Fish in your own pond.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks Cerebus.

By my count there are 64 teams that are currently bowl eligible (Army has 6 wins, but two vs. FCS) There are 18 teams left that have a chance to hit 6 wins. It doesn't look good for So Miss, N.C. St, U-La-La, Vandy, and SMU. If just those 5 lose, that would make 77 teams with 6 wins. We are currently 5th among teams with only 5 wins. Northwestern is favored by 14 this week. Duke is a 14 point underdog. I see where we are 1 point favorites, but it looks good for us either way! Go Mean Green! Beat UTEP!

I just wish they had mentioned how the University was started by Mean Joe Green and how he insisted we be called the Mean Green. Also how he also came up with the name of North Texas State. Other than those blatant omissions , they were great.
-
Please, please, please let this happen...either one.
-
Not true. You should try drinking the cool aid sometime. Duke has 4 wins and has to beat Pitt or Miami to get to 5 Northwestern has 5 wins and needs to beat Minn or Ill to get to 6 Vanderbilt has 4 wins and needs to beat Ole Miss or Tenn to get to 5 Army has 5 wins and must beat Navy to get to 6 If we can win either of our last two, we have a REALLY good chance. After 1-11, I'll take any bowl for any reason. No shame here.

We knew UTSA on the road would be tough. We knew that La Tech and W. K. were probably losses and wouldn't be close. We knew this was coming. That being said, if I knew 10 weeks ago that we would have a chance to beat two struggling teams and go to a bowl.... with this roster.... I would have gladly taken it. I like where we are and I like where we are going. See everyone on Saturday. Beat Southern Miss!!!

I know we tried to recruit #91 Cedric Johnson. He had a lot of attention from us and from SMU. He didn't want to stay close to home and told both not to bother. He got an offer from La Tech early, liked his visit, and locked in his choice. We tried, he wasn't interested in staying in the area.

Still way too many in the "wait and see" mindset. We have a new A.D. We have a new coach. We are playing well and getting better each week. We still have a chance to get into a bowl. Pay your Mean Green dues and buy on the 50. There will always be a reason to "wait and see" if you want to.

Scheduling Tweet from Wren Baker: Syracuse?
UNT86 replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
Replace a probable win with a probable loss, and just to get a P5 at home? Why would you do that? The P5 programs bring us in for a win. We bring in Lamar for a win... same thing. I'll take the Cardinals instead of the Orange and hit 6.- 95 replies

Love the triple option.... except when I have to stop it. My last year as an OC in an area high school, we were a triple option team. We didn't throw for 300 yards on the season, but we rushed for over 3000 and half our completions were for touchdowns. It is a great offense and most guys that know how to run it or stop it are retired. Go Mean Green! Beat Army!

The 2001 team got to a bowl a year ahead of when they should have. They got crushed by Colorado State. It was wonderful! They could play in Beirut and I would find a go.

My favorite that doesn't get enough credit is Bron Beal. I think it was maybe Gene Pool he took over for, but I do remember that NT beat TCU 24-20 with Beal running the wishbone. If I remember correctly, he played minor league baseball and enrolled at NT after damaging his shoulder. He could throw just enough to keep people off the running game. I think his fullback was Monte Moon (another name that doesn't get enough credit).

Was wanting Rice to beat UTSA. Wanted the Chaps to spit the bit. Could see UTEP winning every one of their games until ours. The Herd was 10 yards away from getting their season finished in October. Southern Miss beats Rice by 16 then gets beat by UTSA by 23, so UTSA should crush Rice... right?

DRC: Brandon Garner could be key for UNT in stretch run

I'm not checking birth certificates and you don't get to play just because the calendar turned. To quote a wise man "May the best man play". -
Why not a State Fair game for North Texas?
UNT86 replied to TripleGrad's topic in Mean Green Football
No. No. No.... No to SMU in Dallas. No to anyone else in Dallas. Denton is our home. If they don't want to play in Denton, then we don't play.- 77 replies

An odd front is actually tougher on the triple option than an even front. A nose keeps Army from running the midline. The biggest question is whether they will have 3 in the secondary or 4. We have been playing more of a "50" front the last few weeks. I am curious to see if we will continue with that. It would be easy to play under 4's with the tackles and funnel everything to the LB's and secondary. I am confident that we will be able to stop them, especially with 2 weeks to prepare.
