I liked the RB Nic Smitth. Very elusive.

UNT Updated 2017 Depth Chart as of 6.15.17 (Ourlads')
UNT86 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Right. But apparently he was on the two deep as late as the Southern Miss game last year, but not now. I just hope it is because we are much better at his position and not because he did anything to be in the doghouse. -
The "buy in" is more expensive toward the 50. I believe it is $12,500 per seat at the 50, but you should check on that. You can buy toward the 20's for less and I believe seats are still available in both areas. I think the Mean Green donation is $500 per seat per year. The tickets are about $85 per seat per game. Again, check with the Athletic Department.

UNT Updated 2017 Depth Chart as of 6.15.17 (Ourlads')

What has happened to #34 Elijah McIntyre? He started one of our biggest wins last year against Southern Miss (on short notice) and seemed to perform well. Now, I don't see him on any two deep. Did he have a bad spring? Is he injured? In the doghouse? -
No worries. That was probably the situation anyway. I had a good coach explain to me once that Spring ball is when you decide WHO is going to play. Fall is when you get those kids game ready. Since he missed Spring, he was looking at a backup role this year anyway. But, if he plays as hard as you say, and is athletic enough for a scholarship in our secondary, there are lots of Special Teams where he can play and contribute. You can NEVER have enough guys that can run, man cover, and open-field tackle.
-
Didn't happen. And he is a quality young man, which is way more important.
-
That is what happened to Marquise Goodwin at Texas. He was signed to a track scholarship and Mack Brown offered him the opportunity to walk on for football. When he made the football team, his scholarship became football.

And, just doing a little math, WB would need to have us at an average attendance 25,000 two years from now and maintain that level for 10 years to equal RV (which many on this board claim wasn't nearly good enough). RV increased attendance 31% in his first three years. I sure hope WB can better that mark. Oh, WB would also need to add the second level to the stadium, build a baseball facility, and an indoor football facility to equal what RV's did in softball, basketball, and football. I'm ready for it. Let's go!

DRC: Echols-Luper transferring, has interest in UNT
UNT86 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I can stop reading right there. -
The year before RV arrived, our average attendance was 14,180. Within 3 years, the average attendance was 18,694. The last 2 years in Fouts were 18,228 and 17,718 for two teams that won a combined 5 games. He got us a new stadium built, and still 2 of the top 5 years in average attendance in NT history were under RV at 21,030 in 2013 and 19,271 in 2014. He had his faults , but attendance was one of the least of his problems.

Keyshawn Johnson has it right. Follow the rules. Period.

Arrested, warrants, suspended from Arkansas State... pass. -

DRC: What do bowl projections have to say about UNT?
UNT86 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Those publications are limited to projecting only the bowls that have conference ties. They cannot, at least in preseason, project that any conference will not have enough bowl teams to fill their expected spots. Those publications are also a little lazy when it comes to the "other" conferences. It is easy to just pick the top 6 from last year and hit print. You will most likely hit 4 of the 6. Those projections just tell me that we weren't in the top 6 last year, so we won't be projected this year. -
He wasn't pulled too early. He was not mobile enough for our offensive line at the time. Fine has the ability to move and create. Morris didn't. By the time the bowl game came around, the line could better protect a pocket passer. Our coaches did what gave the team the best chance to win...as they should.

DRC: Lake Ridge QB Jason Bean commits to UNT
UNT86 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
It doesn't matter if the offers were still valid or not. Schools offer 5 quarterbacks that they like. If they only want to sign one, they take the first verbal commitment and string along the rest. It doesn't mean they didn't want the quarterbacks. He had legit offers from good schools. And, if he still wanted those other offers, I promise they would make room for him. -
DRC: Looking back at the top 10 games of the last decade
UNT86 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I would have included the 42-10 victory over Tulsa in 2013, the 34-27 victory over Ball State in 2013 since it is our only victory EVER over a 10 win team, the 55-14 win at Southern Miss in 2013 since it is the first win there since 1977, and last year's win vs Marshall since they were coming off several good seasons and we had never beaten them. Delete all games vs Western Kentucky. -
Unproven doesn't mean he can't play. It just means he didn't beat out the guy in front of him LAST year.
-
I'm going Kelvin Smith. I think our OC had to use a FB/HB/TE position last year just because that is all we had. I think he will use it this year because Smith can go a lot of places and be a matchup problem for a defense.

DRC: A look back on the top five coaches in UNT history
UNT86 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
1) Mitchell 2) Fry 3) Nelson 4) Sisco 5) Rust Top two in either order. Last 3 in any order. -
Abner Haynes has to be #1 Bernard Jackson is my #2. He is the best I've seen at NT. Patrick Cobbs is #3. Lance Dunbar #4. Jamario #5. And thanks for mentioning Monte Moon. Wishbone fullbacks don't get enough credit.
-
Jordan Case was better than both Scott Hall and Derek Thompson. I've been coming to games since 1974 and he is the best I've seen at NT. Washington was good too, but you cannot compare his passing stats to others. It wasn't that kind of an offense. Jordan Case was a tough as hell and a winner.

The Heart of Dallas Bowl can say Big 12 all it wants to. As long as we qualify for a bowl, we are probably going there and no Big 12 team is EVER coming there to play us. The might show up to play Southern Miss or Marshall, but not North Texas. All of these are fluid and they bowl people will NEVER let us play a P5 in a bowl (which I am fine with, by the way).

Vito is on target here.
