  1. I was most impressed with #21 Jaylen Mallard. She is VERY athletic and looks like she can play. It was nice to see Maddie Cleary off the bench early. She could add much needed scoring when we sub. Aly Gamez looks to be an excellent addition. She was on fire last night. Only two players did not go in last night. This team is much deeper than we have had. This team is going to contend. It will be a good test next week with Missouri State.
  2. I don't hate the black jerseys, but I do hate not being able to read the numbers. Use white numbers trimmed in green. Anything except green numbers on a black jersey.
  3. After hearing all these years that the Sun Belt was now a better conference and that they had "passed us by", when the AAC looked to expand they took 6 schools from CUSA. That I can see, not one Sun Belt school was invited to go anywhere. I find that funny, and just a little bit odd....
  4. I've never understood why the Super Pit doesn't have giant LED lights with North Texas or Mean Green along the top. I know why it has not happened, I've just never understood it.
  5. The numbers are hard to read. I don't mind the black, but they need to make the numbers stand out. Green on black is not good from the stands.
  6. I'm with Coach. Fix you helmet so that your effort counts. All that extra effort was worthless. I would have argued the poor spot cost us a first down.
  7. It makes for a long night as a coach when you know what to do, but your players cannot execute the scheme. When the X's whip the O's, it is rough. It is another matter entirely if you know as a coach what to do, but you do not or have not installed that portion of the scheme into the offense. That can happen when you have a QB that does not go through Spring Ball. He may have never taken reps on the things you REALLY need to do. You can be handcuffed when that happens. What concerned me the most Saturday were the clean keys UAB was getting from our scheme. In the 80"s and 90's, false keys were rare. In today's game, they are a lot more normal. That I could see, UAB never got a bad key. If it were me, that is where I would start. It sucks as a defensive coach when you cannot get clean keys and tell you kids where they should be looking. It makes them slow and slow defenses give up points. The second place for me is more plays where I can read a defender instead of blocking him (think old school triple option). If I can get a double team at the point of attack and read a defender instead of blocking him, it helps. It also makes the defense slow down and play assignment football. It takes away from our disadvantage in athleticism. These kinds of plays are still available in 1-back schemes.
  8. I have read another thread talking about the QB situation. Both played poorly, but they were not the problem on Saturday. UAB played a 50 front, but with only one LB (usually in a 50 front there are two over the guards). They played a nose, a Mike linebacker, two 4I's (inside shades on the tackles), and wide 9's. In the secondary, they played man on your three splits up tight. They had two safeties deep to cover if one of the three corners got beat deep. They almost never got out of that alignment. The problem is that you should run at that front. We tried, but our OL was completely dominated by the front of UAB. The play calling was correct for what UAB was doing. You should not throw the ball to three WR being covered by 5 DB. You should run the ball against a light box, but it seemed they were getting clean keys and were reacting without any hesitation. Until we solve that issue, we will continue to see that front. Coaches watch film and you can bet we will continue to see that until we solve it.
  9. Don't strike with the crown of the helmet. Do what we taught years ago and keep your head up. It is dangerous for everyone when a player drops his head. I have played, coached, and been an official and I don't have any problem with making the game safer for everyone. See what you hit, don't take cheap shots, and let's all play again next week.
  10. It would work except for some schools seeing themselves as "above" others. La Tech would never be in a conference with La Monroe. Same for New Mexico agreeing to be in a conference with New Mexico State. SMU would rather cancel the program than join the conference suggested. There is also the whole public vs private schools problem. Many private schools maintain an attitude of superiority and would refuse to be in a conference with public/state schools. It looks great on paper, but it will NEVER happen.
  11. I never really understood the fit. It just seemed out of place and maybe a little inappropriate. I don't think anyone will miss it.
  12. There were so many times last year that we never even got to 3rd down. Also, there were some questionable interference calls that converted at least 2 of those. The defense isn't there, but it is a lot better than it was.
  13. I also remember when we went to white as our home color with these because the tear-away jerseys were not available in apple green.
  14. I'm not sure the bowl tie-in's are that important anymore. What is more important is how many bowl tie-in's your conference has. ESPN is going to move teams here and there and the actual name on the bowl is a lot less important than it used to be. And from what I understand, all important decisions are tied to television and tickets sold really don't matter. I just hope we win 7 and this is an issue.
  15. Maybe you should try going to a NORTH TEXAS game and quit worrying about the opponent. Are you there to see the Mean Green or the Cougars/Owls/Miners?
  16. Wren deserves to be considered. The last thing you want is an AD that nobody else wants. If he stays, good for us.
  17. Digital tickets is just one of many things Covid has changed permanently. We used them in Indianapolis. Once I figured out the app, it went fine. And I am the LAST person to figure things like this out.
  18. When this is over, there will be a P4 instead of a P5. Okie State will find a home, but maybe not with the Sooners. Folks like Baylor and Texas Tech will land on their feet, but not in a P4 conference.
  19. We stayed the whole game. This is when I learned to take a sleeping bag and sit in it to watch the game. It really wasn't that cold. I also remember that 3 members of the band stayed and played at halftime. It was great, except for the final score.
  20. If I remember correctly, we switched to the wishbone at some point during this season. I believe Bron Beal was our QB and Monte Moon was the fullback. TCU didn't act like they knew what to do with the bone and/or had not worked on the option much. Great day to be green.
  21. I remember when we would play defense at critical times. Oh, those were the days......
  22. I promise Joe, if you sing Glory to the Green loudly enough, someone will open the door for you.
  23. You need some football, badly. Or some basketball... or some softball, or some volleyball, or a good bonfire..... maybe just sing Glory to the Green and drip dry.
  24. There was not a single spot on our defense that was good last year. Our inside LB's were okay when they were healthy, but that was not often. Every other part of the defense was terrible and that includes the DL. We wouldn't get any pressure, man cover, or stop the run. Our scheme was better than the year before where we had safeties responsible for A gap, but it still was not good. Maybe we could only give up 28 a game this year and win 6?
  25. Until we show that we won't give up 50 points every game, this is exactly where we should be. EVERYTHING is riding on our defense.
