I understand that. I think we all can recognize when the players give up on the team. It is apparent, even after all of the injuries that the guys had a will to win (except maybe for the Army game). If Canales can keep that spirit going (I think WKU and ULM are definitely winable games), then I would be fine with him staying around. BUT, if we see the guys start to give up on the year and play without that will to win, it will probably be reflected in the score and by the play on the field. I don't want to see that, but if it happens, I wouldn't want to bring Canales back either.

I think a big reason that many of us consider Leavitt (aside from what he did at SF) is his working relationship with coach Canales, and the assumption that if he came here, coach Canales would also stick around. I really hope this doesn't happen, but: What if coach Canales loses the team over the next few weeks? Would we really want him to stick around? More importantly, would the players want him around anymore? I think if coach Canales can get the team playing well, then Leavitt would move up to a clear-cut #1 for me assuming he would keep Canales as his OC. If the team loses their will to win under Canales, then give me the Franchione father-son duo over the Leavitt-Canales duo.

Visibility Change On The Way

Rick, When we get UNT to the BIG TIME, please don't "Big Time" us. You've been great, and your accessibility to the fans has been wonderful. Thanks for everything! Now get to work on our new coach! We're all anxiously awaiting the name you choose. -
Fans Of Other Schools Discussing Who Unt Should Hire

Alot of the Rice fans seemed to be on board with HIRING Todd Dodge as a QB coach, WR coach, or O-Coord.! -

I had about a 5 minute conversation with coach Dodge and Riley while we were shopping for groceries at the Target in Denton. Though he didn't LIVE in Denton, he was around. -
Why are we thinking so small time? My wife said she wants to get Bill Cowher or Tony Dungy. PICK UP THE PHONE RV!!

For Those Of You Not Wanting An Up And Coming Assistant

I think it's clear who you want as the next head coach. A guy who is very hungry: Mark Mangino. Thanks for your input Silver! -
...insinuating that he will say YES! Sir, in all honesty, you have not a single clue... This is utterly baseless.

He was definitely pushed out after that 7-5 season. I think that's rather obvious. If he quit, he would not be getting a paycheck from A&M right now.
-
He looked like he was about to cry a few times. Is this what we want? A crybaby coach? trying to play devils advocate to missoutiger
-
Huh? Can't be talking about Dodge right?
-
I agree with 93-98 here. We've already made a "splash", "known coach" hire. His name is Todd Dodge. The new stadium is going to sell itself out in the first year. I'm more concerned with finding someone who can win games. That way, those sell outs are sustained and don't drop off after the excitement of the new stadium wears off.

We all want this. Baby steps sir.

This also sounds like it would preclude Bower since he seems to be entrenched in Miss.
-
I agree with this.

I'm surprised Fran is leading this poll and there is little justification of why in the thread itself... so I'll give my vote a little defense: Fran has coached teams at all levels of play - from sub D-I through AQ BCS schools. All have winning records and very little off-field flack (I think the last thing I want is to be successful, yet be known as "The U. part 2"). The guy is a great recruiter, plain and simple. He has enough pull, that he could bring in an amazing staff to coach under him (if the funding is there), including his son Brad who is the Head Coach at 2 time NJCAA National Champion Blinn College. He leaves programs in better shape than when he found them. If he has to leave, then that will certainly mean that UNT will be an attractive place for the next coach. Those of you who don't like him based off of his Alabama departure (which I would agree was very dishonest and crappy), I don't know that I would not have done the same. Texas A&M is a great place to coach and Alabama was going to be saddled with heavy sanctions. As for his A&M departure due to his "newsletter", I think that maybe some of us on here would subscribe to this! Don't throw rocks in the glass house! Go get him Rick!

Dodge Will Have Another Job Before December
MeanGreenTexan replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
I think this is spot on. He'll more than likely be a D-I QB coach or D-Ia/D-II O-coordinator next year. -
I don't think this is getting through people's skulls... similar to the "30 days" rumor that has been debunked about 100 times on here, yet it keeps coming up. Forget about Leach while he is engaged in his lawsuit folks. If it ends tomorrow, then great, let's talk to him! But I don't want to wait around for him.

I loved this douche-baggery. You know, I guess I've never really paid much attention to yankee games at Yankee Stadium, but I always thought that the fans at the ballpark in Arlington that boo when the opposing pitcher checks a runner at first base with a slow throw were just dumb Dallas fans that didn't follow the game. Then I heard even more boos from the yankee faithful. Then, there was the robbery of THEIR OWN PLAYER off the first base side later in the game. I don't doubt that they are educated in winning baseball, but wow they are stupid fans.

If we don't win this hire, we need to fire Todd Dod... uh, nevermind.
