What Should The Fans Expect From Canales
MeanGreenTexan replied to UNT Mean Green's topic in Mean Green Football
Good Survey! Insightful questions. I'll give it a go: 1 & 2) I would like to see him get 4 out of 5 (He already has 1). If 3 out of 5, then KSt. must be one of them. This, to even be considered... 3) If he fails to win 3 games, then I think we can do better. 4) I expect to see all aspects of the game improve if he is to be considered for the HC position. Offense/Defense/ST's/clock mgmt/player mgmt... 5) Not right now. But if he starts to win (especially if he beats KSt.), then maybe. 6) I'm not married to any of them. What coach Gandy is doing on the recruiting trail in MS and LA is pretty impressive. I think I would like for him to stick around, but not as ST's coach. Go back to coaching RB's only. Sounds like DLo is already gone after this season. I would want him to keep the guys that the players are responding to best. If he knows other coaches who could come in and do better, then by all means, bring them in. 7) Not right now. Win against Troy and I would START to consider him. 8) Yes. -
I would push this number to 3, and give extra consideration if one of the 3 is KSt. End the year 4-2 with the 2 losses being competitive and I'll pay closer attention to what RV does with coach Canales. I also think our last "splash" hire was based on our smaller budget. All indications show that we are going to up our coaching staff pay scale to compete with the big boys as far as "mid-majors" go. This pay scale should provide a bigger splash with better wake afterwards. I'm beginning to wonder if coach Canales would remain if we were to hire Leavitt. If he won't, then I'm not nearly as interested in Leavitt. Chico appears to want to be a head coach. I don't know if he would want to step back behind Leavitt yet again.

National Search Means Look For North Texas Officials
MeanGreenTexan replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Uh, you may speak for yourself, but I don't belong to that "nation" brah. -
I would expect the AD to say this. What else would they say? "No, even though coach Canales is working hard and our players are working hard to try and salvage this season, we feel that coach Canales is simply interim and will not be retained next year..." What would that do to the morale of the team? I admire RV, but when he says that this is not a "tryout" scenario for coach Canales, I simply do not believe him. If it's not, then it should be.

Exactly. wait... For real folks, the team needs to celebrate every win from here on out and get that mentality of winning to permeate the lockeroom. If coach Canales is the coach we need, then we'll see proof in the pudding next week and the week after, etc...

At least it won't be Riley's play.... Now if Riley goes down again??

World Series Game 3
MeanGreenTexan replied to Green Mean's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Kinda makes you forget about Smoaks wif cigarrettes huh? Huge final out in the top of the eighth for O'Day. He needed to get that so he can get at least some confidence back. -
Fran Deserves Another Chance
MeanGreenTexan replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm sure we would be saying the same thing about a Leach/Leavitt/Fran hire if one of them were to come here. -
Thanks for the -1's. This really was an ill-thought out post. I apologize for my jackassery. RIP Coach and GMG!

I heard Nostradamus wrote the following in 1554: Amazing! I wonder who he was talking about?

I hope Ray did not meet the same fate as Coach Blakeley.

Have we heard this before? It's never dull when you're producing Heisman hopeful RB's. UNT has done rather well in the RB department. Retire before the contract is up, or leave for greener pastures... either way, if he has turned us into a winning team, then it will be a destination for another good coach to enter (or in an ideal world, we could have a Gary Patterson dropped on us).

I think the "energy" coaches are the assistants. Dennis would be the "CEO" guy. I think he knows football well enough to know when to call timeouts and such, and I think he knows enough people to get the right assistants in, including his son at DC.

What sucks is that CJ got the loss. He pitched well enough to win that game. Cain was just ON tonight. Nothing anyone can do about that... I just hope they get another crack at him. -

Oliver is certainly looking like the only reliever that's ever been here before. That inning from Holland was awful. -

At least I can knock this off of my bucket list without having to attend any American Idol tryouts or shady gentlemans establishments. -

A quick search pulls ACLJ as the "American Center for Law & Justice". They are a religious rights watchdog. What's the harm with having this as a law? $0 tax dollars are spent on it. It's not a law that is enforced in any kind of way... If you don't believe in God, then don't pray. How is it different than any other normal day? And for those that do believe, they're praying for the strength of the country in which you live in. What's wrong with that? Also, I don't believe it specifies any certain religion, so there's no favoritism. If it were the "National Christian Prayer Day", or the "National Buddhist Meditation Day", then I could understand. Sadly, thousands, if not millions of dollars were spent on this useless ruling that could have been redirected elsewhere. If the "National Day of Prayer" (the Government version) gets struck down and removed, then the religious organizations of the US will probably continue it as a grassroots movement, and nothing will have changed. I think there are plenty of other issues that the courts could be tackling instead of this. -
Will We Pay Our Asst Coaches Enough?
MeanGreenTexan replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I hope we don't skip on a Special Teams coach again... -
Taking a quick look at the Southland "Commissioners Cup" standings over the last few years, it appears that UTSA is a better overall program. However, these numbers appear to be skewed by their track & CC teams (as well as Men's Tennis). They don't have football, and TXSt has a very good football program (for the Southland). I think I would rather see TXSt. join the belt over UTSA.

"Alonzo Edwards looks like the real deal to me. He can play in the paint and facing the basket." This is critical because we will be asking alot of Alonzo to replace some of Tramiel's production. "Holmen appears to have extended his shooting range." Same as above. This is good news. I'm hoping for a breakout year from Jacob this season. "Dominique Johnson is back to being who he was last year before breaking his leg." To be expected. It will be nice to get Dom back in the lineup. Hopefully he's not too rusty.
