Sir, I qualified that statement with "in Texas". If you were here, yes, you would call Todd Dodge a "name" coach. Is he a name coach on a national scale? Only if you are REALLY into High School football. Otherwise, not even close. As far as "never shall be", I'm not convinced of that. You may be right though. But I think a few years bouncing around as a QB coach > Passing Game Coord > Offensive Coord of some good universities, he may have another shot. As a Missouri Tigers fan, you should be very aware of Mr. Dodge.

No, make no mistake, this falls squarely on the shoulders of Lee Jackson.

Sir, it's one thing to come on here and hawk one specific coaching candidate on us... It is another malfeasance to attack an alum as being a "bandwagon" jumper!! Please don't do that again.

Sorry to interject in this because my point is way off topic, but I wonder how many of you there are? Here ladies & gentlemen is a fantastic example of a "name" coach (we can all agree that in the state of Texas, despite his qualifications, that Todd Dodge was a "name" coach) can have a positive effect on the fanbase even after he is gone. I'm not saying that Dodge was the ONLY reason you got tickets Tyler, but surely something excited you enough to get tickets again... Then, you decided to buy club seats (despite Dodge's record) even though Dodge is gone. It's fans like you that this hire should bring back. Is coach Canales the guy for this? I don't know, but I'm interested in what you have to say if you could step back in time and transpose Chico for Dodge.

KRAM, do you like Scrappy for head coach? He goes around and shakes everyone's hand is at every athletics event. All I know is, Scrappy would be the most demonstrative coach to ever roam a college football sideline. Can someone start a Scrappy for Head Coach campaign? Get Chuck Neinas on the phone!

Not Pretty, But It's A Start: Unt 80, Uam 73

Hey, it could be worse, we could be lamenting a loss to Northwood like FAU. -
Who is on this recording? Who are the artists? I really need to know this before I can listen to it again.

Unt Exhibition Game Wed Free On M G Premium
MeanGreenTexan replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Dom! welcome back! I'm liking Edwards' athleticism. He's flying around out there defensively. I would like to see him get the ball either in the post, or in space to see what he can do offensively. -
Look, I don't know about you, but I don't want a sausage company catering the UNT games that has a pending lawsuit because it was accused of choking and slapping one of it's sausages. Can't we get a more upstanding sausage?

Thoughts On Canales' Efforts To Land The Job
MeanGreenTexan replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Hey Emmitt01, it was nice meeting you Saturday. Hope to see you around more. You present alot of great points in your post. I agree with this. The WKU win was definitely more convincing than the others. I'm glad it turned out that way. It was certainly a boost to the team. This was against a team that had lost to LAMo the week before. This is certainly not the Troy team of recent years. I only predicted a 10pt loss to them. The team played better than I thought! I felt that way during the Rice game, the LALa game, and even the ARSt game (with Chase Baine at QB!) Didn't you? I agree with this too. He's certainly not Dodge. The players appear to be responding to him better than Dodge. They've completely bought into this 'Lock the Gate' theme. I don't think too many people are saying that Dodge and Canales are the same guy. Maybe I'm just not reading those posts because those people are on my ignored list... I dunno. I would certainly expect coach Canales to do this too. I think you're fooling yourself if you believe coach Canales only wants to be in Denton for the rest of his life. Who knows though? Maybe I'm wrong. I'm not willing to bet on that though. I think the people we REALLY need to get on board are the other 90,000+ alumni that are here in the DFW who are currently apathetic towards their university. Once UNT starts winning, regardless of the coach, hopefully those people will start coming out and opening their wallets. When they do, I think they would stick around after we replace this name coach with another coach after he departs. The other people who come around based on the coach themselves will be minimal (people who like pirates and stuff). If they leave, it's OK because our targeted fans stayed. I really do think Boise is a great template for us to try and follow, however, I fear that Boise caught lightning in a bottle. Boise lost coaches to big schools when the opportunity arose. That's what is so impressive. They have assistant after assistant that can pick up and continue with the program. Looking at guys like Leach,Fran,Leavitt,etc..., they have the name to attract the type of assistants that could accomplish this type of success for us. I don't know if Canales has these types of assistants at his disposal. I agree with your underlying principal here that UNT should be committed to a culture of winning and we can do this without a sexy hire. BUT, I think the sexy hire can get us there quicker. Take your example: girls will not consider dating the poor kid at the end of the class line, but if he somehow gets a Bentley, then they will start taking notice, and eventually may get to know that he's a great guy. At the end of the day, I would just like to see our options. One of those options includes seeing what Canales can do in more than 2-3 games. If he proves himself to be a good enough coach, then please lump him in with the other candidates and see how he stacks up. He certainly has a leg up on the competition because he's been here for a year. If he stacks up better than the other guys, then by all means, sign him! If he starts recruiting great players and winning, he'll get noticed by bigger schools. If he leaves, fine. We will be in a position to get another great coach to fill in. IF he were to win AND stay, then I would be elated... I just don't expect it. -
I'm not too sure that this scenario does not present itself, but I would say no. And it probably won't be 10 years from now either. Maybe more like 15-20. Who knows what Riley is doing. He may go into the business world or something.

All I know is that we need to stay away from the retread GA's. I mean, if you don't have that fire in your belly, you shouldn't be a GA here that's for sure!

Question To The Green Brigade People
MeanGreenTexan replied to the green rokemi's topic in Mean Green Football
You are correct. Alot of music programs have to pound their own chests in order to get noticed since rankings for music schools are so sparse. But, as I said in my post: "...America's Best Graduate Schools has been published annually by U. S. News & World Report since 1987. They began ranking graduate jazz programs in 1994 and the UNT Jazz Studies program was ranked number one in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997. After 1997, the publication stopped ranking graduate programs in music..." This is from the jazz.unt.edu website. No University has a better Jazz studies program. The rest is just conjecture since for instance, a music program could have a fantastic voice department, but a mediocre composition department. I'm very proud of our Music school and felt threatened by Troy band members so I retaliated violently like a trapped chimpanzee would. Does that make me a bad person? -
Hmmm. ARSt. made them look really bad and I thought we played well against Troy last week. But, they're at home, and they always play better for some reason when North Texas lines up against them. UNT: 31 MT: 34 Nailbiter that I think will be similar to the Troy game. Lock the Gate and prove me wrong Mean Green.

Mark Stoops And What Do We Think?
MeanGreenTexan replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
What does Bob have to do with hiring Mark Stoops (Im assuming you're talking about Bob, maybe not, there are a bunch of them)? Who cares about Bob, what does MARK bring to the table? -
Hi all, I've been registered on this board since it's inception, yet I only have 14 posts... so you can trust me. I have heard from a very credible source from inside the Denton Department of Health that there may or may not be food served at a burger joint that may or may not be coming to Denton. The Department of Health deepthroat informant told me that there are 1 of 2 options for this possible establishment. 1.This restaurant may or may not serve delicious burgers. 2. This restaurant is a big name that you have DEFINITELY heard of. I'm sorry but I am not at liberty to provide any more information than what I've given you. Sincerely, -Stone

Mark Stoops And What Do We Think?
MeanGreenTexan replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
No, you twisted his words to fit your Chico bashing propoganda. He clearly said the following: You took his quote of "intern" and in your usual cruel snarkiness, twisted it to mean "interim". I'm sure Chico was a very successful intern... ...now, where did he intern coach at?
