Tulsa is hard to gauge. So is UNT. Tulsa is missing a few key cogs. UNT seems to be pretty close to full strength (outside of Phillips). Tulsa coming off a 10 win season, and, well, we all know where UNT finished last season... But, both teams are breaking in new coaching staffs. I think the game will be fairly close... I just don't see UNT leaving with the W this time. North Texas: 24 Tulsa: 31

Frog board thread - UNT/Indiana game
MeanGreenTexan replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I was once in your shoes. Then, a 2002 27-0 loss to the Longhorns made me realize I loved the Mean Green more than my childhood favorite team. Your moment will come... -
IU Coach "Embarrased" over defense's performance
MeanGreenTexan replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Marshall went hard every single time. The last kick, he wound up injured. But, as he was wincing in pain, they taped him up heavily... he was ready to go back in. If all of our walk-ons are as tough as this dude, I'm happy to have them! -
Honest question: I'm sure the wireless mics are tested and re-tested every single game. Yet, for the opening 2 games, they have not been working correctly. Would we really be interested in having a retractable net that runs a possibility of not working when needed? I'm sure an opposing kicker would love nothing more than to nail a kick right into an unprotected jumbotron and cause damage. Having a permanent net eliminates this possibility. I sit in 205 and it is hardly noticable. But a black spot (or several) where the screen was damaged would certainly be noticed.

Not to mention, a band that sounds good is usually the one that is comfortable and happy. I'd rather be entertained by good music than what the band is wearing.

A freshman QB starting? Excellent! Players to watch: RB-Dunbar & Hamilton form a nice 1-2 punch. WR/KR-Brelan Chancellor MLB-Zach Orr, our OLB's are pretty good too. P-Will Atteberry Hey, do you know "TulsaFanInTexas"? If so, could you please send him over?

I think you two are looking at two different scenarios: The wayward fan who is obviously too old (or not old enough) to be a student, should be tolerated. Hey, something drew this person to the game. Maybe, just maybe, the Mean Green can win this person over! A student at UNT repping another school is just plain wrong. EDIT: The second point above should apply to undergrads... Basically, OldGuyStudent, you're special.

Frog board thread - UNT/Indiana game
MeanGreenTexan replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Aha! So this is the guy who jinxed us to a near loss! A message to PhormerPhrog: NEVER RETURN TO APOGEE UNLESS YOU INTEND ON STAYING THE ENTIRE GAME! -
I totally agree with this, but I'm pretty sure everyone on THIS SITE are playing Devil's advocate. It's people who have never heard of this site who are the perpetrators. No one here needs to be told to cherish UNT over TX/OU or the Rangers.

Thanks to the Mike Modano thread for the idea. I think we've even done something like this before, but of course it turned into, "you whippersnappers putting Patrick Cobbs in your Mt. Rushmore never saw Abner Haynes, so how would you know?", or, "Jordan Case over Scott Hall? Are you crazy?". Well, here's an idea: You have 4 spots to add the best players across all sports DURING YOUR TIME AT UNT. Put your graduation year, and list the top 4 players. Add a few "honorable mentions" if you'd like. 2005:I was on the 5 year plan Brandon Kennedy - SBC Player of the decade. I can only imagine that his dominance on the D-Line was what Mean Joe's was like. Chris Davis - This guy filled up the stat sheet night after night. He didn't have much help, but I witnessed several games where he kept us in it, if not won it, single-handedly. Marilyn Marin - She dominated Sun Belt soccer from her freshman year on. I would wager that many of her records will take decades to break (if ever). Patrick Cobbs - NT's All-time rushing record (for now) & NCAA rushing champ. Honorable Mention: Jalie Mitchell, Corina Marginas, Scott Hall, Johnny Quinn

Tulsa Seems Down (Thread from CUSA board)
MeanGreenTexan replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Keep in mind Trent Richardson/Eddie Lacy/Marquis Maze and a number of other starters were in the game in the 4th quarter. The dogs were not called off until the back to back long TD's from Richardson/Lacy early in the 4th. -
It seemed like every single 3rd down, Sarge blew by his man and was chasing down the QB from behind... oftentimes right into AK's neighborhood. The DL (especially the DE's) are starting to change my mind. This group should only get better throughout the year.

Probably came to the realization that, similar to football, he believed the Indiana band was better than UNT, but... Great to put a face with a name this weekend.

Does this mean we should expect Sun Belt Conference refs next week in Tulsa?

North Texas Football will hit a Milestone
MeanGreenTexan replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Also, if you think about it, Coach McCarney and staff have only coached 3 games here. Less than a month ago, they had coached 0 games here. Coach Dickey did some great things while here. Coach Dickey did some bone-headed things while here as well. Same goes for Dodge (although the bone-headed things certainly outnumbered the great things for him). So it's fine to hear about those things... in moderation. What content do you expect from a beat reporter's BLOG (not newspaper stories, I've noticed the Dickey love/Dodge vitrol is truncated in the paper stories) if there is nothing to write about but the past? He probably had a million newspaper stories and blog entries about the new stadium over the past few months (because that's all that was going on), but I don't see anyone venting about going over the same old stadium news. Our history is our history. Vito was not here for the MVC glory years, or even the great 1-AA dominant years. So we can't expect him to have an opinion, in a blog, or in print on those days. The opinions we will see are ones from the years he's been covering UNT football. That includes DD years, TD years, & DM months. If coach McCarney is a winner like we all percieve him to be, then the stories will turn from "The Great Dickey" to, "The Great McCarney". If he is a failure, I'm sure we'll hear about the "The McCarney Fiasco". And, the more games we play, the further away coach Dodge's regime falls in the rearview mirror and the less we have to hear about it. At least, I hope so... Brett, you would move on from Dodge bashing/Dickey love if coach McCarney gives you something to write about... right? -
Who Has the Biggest Breakout Against Indiana?
MeanGreenTexan replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
I'd vote for Bynes. So far, he has done nothing. I think a 100yd/1TD day is in his cards. But, of the ones mentioned, I'll also take Lance. I don't think a player of his caliber can do any worse than 16 yards on 17 carries. -
I need to put my tin foil cap on because I believe you have concocted some type device that is reading my mind.
-
Oh yes! His average is great! That's because he is a really good player. He leads in all-purpose yardage though because he is so good at returning kicks. The more times he is kicked to, the more yards he gets. He's also a pretty nice receiver, so he gets plenty of yards that way as well. Hopefully, he doesn't have to accrue all of his yards this Saturday by returning kickoffs, rather punts!
-
The reality of Brelan Chancellor leading the nation in all-purpose yards is not a good thing! We are getting scored on a ton, and he has to keep fielding kickoffs. Now, lets hope that if he approaches 250 yards in this game, it's because he ran back a bunch of punts, or because Thompson has thrown over 150 of those yards to him.

This is going to be a good game. I think these teams are pretty evenly matched. I anticipate Apogee going nuts to see such a good game with UNT in it until the end. We, as fans, can carry the Mean Green to a win this week! Show up and do your part! YELL.LOUD. during 3rd/4th downs when IU has the ball. SHUT.UP. on 3rd & 4th downs when the Mean Green has the ball. The offense will find a groove this week and explode. The defense should be rested enough during the 4th quarter to hold off the late IU charge. Mean Green: 31 Hoosiers: 27 GO MEAN GREEN!

Attendance Projection for this weekend
