North Texas has contacted Alliance
MeanGreenTexan replied to KoldBeer's topic in Mean Green Football
RV haters: Where you at? I need to see how this will be spinned. I mean, this isn't the flipping Bleacher Report. This is CBS Sports. Isn't this the news you all have been asking for: An answer to "What has RV done?", and "Why aren't we seeing any stories leaking that pair UNT with the new conference?" EDIT: And Baseball rumblings to boot! -
You'd think that standing on bleachers would make them tall enough. Now they have to stand on a chair as well? The chair is the only part of the uni I don't like.

Good Grief! U of Memphis "Real" FB Attendance Numbers
MeanGreenTexan replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Perception is reality when it comes to SMU. They are percieved to be a grand football institution, therefore in the eyes of many, they are. Unfortunately, reality is even more real! SE is right. And their football attendance numbers prove this. EDIT: Check that, their attendance NUMBERS contribute to the perception. Reality is much different. -

We should definitely take JJ for granted
MeanGreenTexan replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Basketball
For real. He's been there for what 6 years? Is that really enough time to get his players in there? In my opinion, no. I think he deserves at least another 4 years. -
Greatest High School Running Back You Ever Saw Play?
MeanGreenTexan replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
Growing up in DeSoto (before moving to Richardson for Jr. High - High school), it was all about Byron Hanspard. The guy could not be tackled. -
DIE BO McCALEBB! I mean... good luck UNO!

Well today is your lucky day! Alliance meets to approve UNT membership

I'm a huge Dunbar fan, but I would consider the number 28 a more desireable number for a RB if we're talking UNT history.
-
I guess we need to define "rotation" then. Norris was a "rotation" player. He didn't get heavy minutes, but he was in the "rotation".

This is the report card of a team that wins 10 games and bows out of the conf. tournament in the first round as a 12 seed. You're not giving alot of these guys enough credit. EDIT: Here's how I would score it- Hogans: C, big man was basically running on adrenaline out there. He was still able to contribute in the middle, although not as much as we thought... however we did not know the extent of his injuires. So maybe some of those expectations were overly optimistic. Edwards: D, You're spot on here really, and that's sad. Hall: B, Hall exceeded any and all expectations for him this year. It's a good thing too because we relied on him way too much. Holmen: B+, He was banged up a little this year as well and I think that kept him from getting an A for me. Solid contributor. Niko: B-, This guy was key for some serious runs throughout the year. Offensively, he was a fairly consistent player for us. Defensively... needs improvement. Walton: B, Hit some HUGE shots this year for us. Also missed some HUGE shots for us this year. Overall, a very nice piece and a solid contributor to the team. Franklin: B+, Franklin contributed to the team in alot of unseen ways. He stepped right in as the vocal leader of the team when Hogans wouldn't. 2nd on the team in boards and he scored more when Jones/Williams departed. Patton: I, we won't know anything about him until next year. A. Williams: A, I don't know how you could give this guy anything less than an A. Proved to be the best player on the team other than Mitchell. Mitchell: A+, he was as advertised. Norris: C-, I upped him because of some of his flashes. He has alot of development to do... Good thing he's only a freshman! Robinson: C-, We missed out on alot of him this year due to various injuries. I thought JJ would consider redshirting him... See Norris' grade for reasoning. Jones: I, Headed for an A+... then we all know what happened. J Williams: I, Headed for a B+ to A-... then we all know what happened.

A picture is worth a thousand words

You guys that have your head in the clouds re: how Tony reacted, need to understand that he is held to a much higher standard. He doesn't get free passes to mope. He represents not only himself and the Mean Green, but an entire University. You guys that are raining down on Tony re: how he reacted, need to recall yourself as a 19 year old. Then put yourself on the precipice of something you've worked very hard for, only to have it slip through your grasp... then forced to accept a fun little participation trophy only minutes after your gut punch. I wouldn't want that crap, and neither would you! I totally agree with 93-98: "Immature? Yes. Justified? No. Understandable? Yes." -
2012 Spring Preview - All-Transfer Team
MeanGreenTexan replied to GreenBat's topic in Mean Green Football
So much conflicting information on this guy... I guess it really comes down to attitude and how hard he wants to work? -
Last year's team and conf. tourney loss was much more of a let-down than this year's team... at least for me. I imagine FAU fans must feel the same way we felt last year with all of their pre-season expectations this year... except they just totally face-planted this year. Whereas UNT at least made the conf. tourney final last year. This year, some of us were able to tame expectations in the face of several freshmen coming in and developing. Those freshmen were SUPER talented and nearly pulled it off! Next year, I think it's a 3 team race in the SBC because WKU obviously has talented freshmen as well and I don't think MT is going anywhere, although Dendy graduating will bring them down to a beatable level.

I think you just about nailed it H-town. I expect alot of the same things. Alzee should definitely move over to the 2 for much of the games next year. I expect Williams and Jones to be back next year and to contribute alot. Jones should pick up right where he left off playing at an extremely high level. Jordan hopefully will develop more confidence to create chances off the dribble. He's crazy athletic, but often settled for jumpers rather than attacking the basket. There's no one better on the fast break though (including Mitchell). He just knows exactly where to be in transition. Ideally, he'll challenge Mitchell for the team scoring lead next year. There were concerns about Odoh's impressive JUCO numbers coming against soft competition. I hope they translate to division 1 ball. I think he's a wild card. If he can play the 5 well, then I expect to see Mitchell (if he's back) on the wings more, where he's supposed to be. I wonder if Overlander will be a factor next year? I wonder if Patton will suit out next year? If so, I expect him and Roger Franklin to be the same type of player, and I expect both to play at a pretty high level. Mitchell will probably play the 3-5 positions in different spurts during the game, depending on who's on the floor with him. When Odoh and Franklin/Patton/Robinson/Niko are on the floor together, I would love Mitchell to play some 3. When Odoh's taking a breather, Mitchell will probably play some 5. I REALLY hope Robinson uses this ofseason to pick up some weight and step into a contributing role at the 4/5 spots. He's got a nice shot. Same with Niko. He's got the offensive game for a good 4. Needs some toughness on D though. I hope Trey can pick JJ's brain this offseason. I'd love for him to become a more cerebral PG. It kinda felt like he was playing with instinct out there for alot of the season. I really like him though. He showed flashes of brilliance. Walton: Develop a better sense of shot selection! (OK, this may be a little reactionary) EDIT: How could I forget Holmen? I expect he'll be a really nice leader for this team next year. There's not much more he needs to do with his game. He's solid. My guess for next year's starting 5: Jones A.Williams J.Williams Mitchell (if he's back?) Odoh With heavy doses of Holmen/Franklin/Patton/Walton off thebench. OR Jones A.Williams Mitchell Holmen Odoh With a very heavy dose of J Williams and alot of Franklin/Patton/Walton off the bench.

This is a really good idea. I would much rather read through some of you old-timers' posts on Mean Green history than another re-alignment thread. Not since the days of debating on how to bring denizens from the town of Mexia to Mean Green Football games has an idea been so brilliant!

Good luck to WKU in the play-in game. I can't see them losing the play-in, regardless of who they're against. They're 10-5 since the Mean Green win at the Super Pit in January, and a totally different team under Harper (6-0 since his interim tag was removed). Now the impending matchup against KU (pick which one), may be ugly...
-
Also, if he DOES come back... This is the kind of feeling he won't forget. If he's anything like me, he'll carry this feeling as motivation through the offseason and work hard. He'll remember this feeling during the next season trying to position UNT to get the highest seed in the conference tourney. He'll remember this feeling as he pounds WKU during the regular season for 30 & 20. He'll remember this feeling as he lets it all out during next season's tourney. He's already a freak of nature as it is. Now, T-Mitch has a chip on his shoulder. The NCAA had better watch out next season if he returns. Mitchell is now truly "on a mission".

Nice Shot Harry. -
I really hope all of you guys are correct about him coming back. Just because UNT lost this game does not really mean he's definitely coming back. If some scout thinks their team can polish his raw abilities, he'll be drafted. Simple as that. Mitchell is a special player. He definitely has more to learn. I hope he's wearing Green next year... sorry bstn, I don't mean Celtic green.
