  1. I see a rather uncomfortably competitive win over a pretty terrible FCS team has some of y'all feeling pretty good! Not me. For instance, this bad Navy defense allowed 0 points to FCS Wagner. NT's even worse defense allowed 31 points to FCS ACU. NT is going to score points, for sure. But Navy's Triple Option is going to shred this defense up. Navy: 48 NT: 38
  2. I definitely don’t think SL was “apathetic”. I think he wanted to win. The guys were obviously playing hard for him. And I don’t know what else he could’ve done defensively. He basically pulled one of the better DCs we’ve seen in a while, and gave him the keys. I think we’re 3-1 with a much better fan-feel if PB we’re still running the defense.
  3. You're probably right. With all the excitement happening on Saturdays, it's only a matter of time before some P5 comes calling.
  4. Agree. If Harry and the mods/admins wanted to replace every mention of the words "Mean Green" with the words "Fart Farts", he/they certainly could. If Harry and the mods/admins wanted to remove every thread ever created with the exception of threads exhorting Todd Dodge & Tony Benford, he/they certainly could. This is Harry's world. We're all just living in it. Thanks @Harry!
  5. You mad guys obviously won't get access to the VIP forum. But you may be interested in the spinnoff board.
  6. This is a really good team. Looking forward to Brown/Burnell/Wesco gel’ing up top & all of the goals they put in as the season rolls along.
  7. Isn’t this exactly what Bennett’s D was? 4-2-5? Hence, why Mazin was able to make an impact when in that look.
  8. This looks like a different team than what we’ve seen so far. Morris seems to have figured out our OL is full of mean maulers that like to run block. Glad the run game has been working. I really believe it’s helping the defense a lot. LATech still got that quick strike to end the half, which is concerning. But, hey, at least we were able to answer!
  9. To level set fairly, this is not accurate. We were definitely running Briles' Veer-&-shoot under Bloesch, with a few Air Raid nuances from Littrell. It's a different offensive philosophy altogether, and we've seen that with the cliff-like dropoff of RB production. But, Morris being an OC by trade, he can implement and run his Air Raid. We saw it work against FIU to the tune of 39 points. I expect it to get better as the year goes on as well. Especially if he sticks with Rogers. But yeah, apparently you need more LBs to run a 3-3-5 instead of the 4-2-5 Bennett was running defensively. Who knew? Then you lose a guy who started a bunch of games over the past few years.... you may want to try and find a guy to play there if you're not sure Wesloski & Brown can do it. Preferably, a guy that wasn't playing QB his whole career prior.
  10. I read that losing KD Davis and Larry Nixon III was the catastrophe. And heck, maybe it is. Maybe we're underestimating how great KD really was, and to an extent, how good Nixon was (although Nixon could barely play over Wood). - We replaced Jyaire Shorter with a TCU transfer and a Tech transfer. No problem, as Shorter was not necessarily the most reliable guy to suit-out every game. For as awesome as he was, he missed a lot due to injury in the past 2 years. - We replaced Manase with Miner, and that has not been a problem at all. The rest of the offense remains in-tact, including the great OL & entire stable of RBs. - We upgraded the safety spot Faulkner occupied by grabbing Hill from UNLV. - Texada and Davis (when healthy) were already starting most of the snaps at CB anyway, so losing Gaddie didn't really hurt that bad. - Obviously, Brown is not KD. And I've seen some nice things from Wesloski, but he still has some development required before he's at Nixon's level. So with the importance of LBs in the 3-3-5, why wouldn't NT hit up this guy, who was in the portal at the time Nixon entered, but wound up at ULM? I'm really tired of hearing deflections away from coaches to the players. That has to stop. These are, for the most part, the same guys that were somewhat-successful last year under Bennett (whom, outside of Davis, appears to be the biggest loss of all).
  11. Win the next 2 and go into conference play at 2-2, sure. It won't necessarily mean he's "turned a corner" or anything. If he can do that, and then go to Annapolis, and beat Navy... yes, I'll relent some & see where the season goes.
  12. I think it's important to consider the WHO, and the HOW NT lost the first two games. If we were 0-2 with the same scores against Cal & South Alabama, things might be a little different. Cal returned a lot of their players from last year, their DC, and brought in Spav to run the offense (good hire!), and then had an insider coaching their OLine who knows all of our returning personnel very very well. - We hang with Cal through the first half, then the wheels fall off. Fans said: "This is frustrating, and cause for concern. But hey, they're a P5 team. We'll see how we do against another G5 team next week!" Then, a team like South Alabama, who won 10 games last year (going 7-1 in SBC play) - Hanging with them for a final score L:39-46 Fans might say: "Hey, there was some improvement! We played a good team and hung tough with them! Growing pains with a new coach, I suppose, but if we improve like this again, we should take care of business against LATech next week!" But no, that second loss was against FIU. When we struggle against a team like FIU, the red flags shoot up, and morale drops. People start wondering if we're going to win any more games this year. Justifiably. Unfortunately, if Coach Morris doesn't get the "buy-in" he's desperately needing... additional wins are going to be very difficult for UNT to come by.
  13. Look who makes an appearance on the "waiting list". It's like a damp, moldy, cold, smelly, tattered blanket. It's not really something we want, but it belongs to us, and we can't live without it. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38386626/college-football-bottom-10-week-2-alabama Lose again this week, and the Lean Green will be off the "waiting list" and back into the Bottom 10!
  14. I know the reality. That's where the frustrated reaction is coming from. I've "accepted" a lot of losing through the years. I was hoping to be done with it... at least, losing at this kind of "Bottom 10" level. But, just like the Texas fans, I guess we should all just say, "We're Back!!!!1!!"
  15. Ohio won their division in the MAC last year with a 10-4 record! FIU finished with 1 win! So, YES. It's very, very different. Bless you NT80, you're really trying... but you're continually missing very important details. I don't either.
  16. OK. So your 2 points here are that Austin Aune would have been a difference-maker, and FIU has improved (this is highly debatable as they also barely scraped by a bad FCS Maine team just 1 week prior to beating us). Sure. But the goalpost moved from your original argument that it is a "football roster problem". So let's get back there. We did lose some really good players, I agree. Not enough to validate what we're seeing over the past 2 weeks. Defensively (because that is the side of the ball that's causing the fans to 💩 bricks), losing KD Davis cannot be overstated. Huge loss. Is he really the difference between what we saw last year VS this year? If so, he needs to have a statue 2X the size of Mean Joe outside DATCU. Other than him... did we really lose a lot that couldn't be replaced? Losing Nixon hurt, sure. DeShawn Gaddie wasn't spectacular, and honestly, he was losing out on PT last year when both Texada & Davis were healthy. Is there a single person who thinks Faulkner is better than what we've seen from Phil Hill so far? Total upgrade there. We have 2 games on tape, and we're barely seeing Mazin Richards show up. Mazin Richards was an All-conference, game-changing player last year. What happened to him? Regression? The roster is not the problem. The players are not the problem.
  17. Yes, I agree it's some sort of coping. Very odd why people would want to tear down SL's mediocrity to validate(?) the garbage we saw last weekend. People need to understand, just because SL smacked FIU last year, and likely would have again this year, doesn't mean he was an amazing coach that anyone (well, most anyone) thinks should still be here. Now, what it might mean, is that in just 1 offseason, we've gone from 'mediocre' to 'bad'. I can't say that with 100% certainty, but I can say, I've seen it happen before with my own 2 eyes (2006-2007)... and what I've witnessed the past 2 weekends looks very, very familiar.
  18. 52-14. 52-14. 52-14. 52-14. 52-14.
  19. I need to reiterate again, because it cannot be overstated enough: UNT beat FIU last year 52-14. Now, unless you want to argue we DID have the 2nd coming of Mason Fine in last year’s QB: Austin Aune, which, I believe that is a hill only you would occupy, then there is no possible way you can say it’s the roster (re:”The players suck now”).
  20. Wait, is Harris supposed to be out? I haven’t seen anything saying that.
