Cal lands North Texas QB transfer Chandler Rogers
MeanGreenTexan replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Football
Tylor Perry has a diploma from the University of North Texas, just like you.(?) He's one of us... Let alone being the hero of one of the 2 high points of UNT Basketball history. Pretty sure Rogers will as well if he's expecting to play next season. But I highly doubt Rogers gets a lot of thought around here after the new year. He succeeded here individually, which was great for him, but his team was not a success, so he likely won't be remembered for much. I have more of an affinity for Riley Dodge than Chandler Rogers. Both transferred out. -

I haven't gone to look at what's going on at TX St., but it does seem different. Your example might actually be an exhibit of the point I'm trying to make if Kinne's guys are staying around. If Kinne brought in a bunch of guys, and they all are staying... but the guys Morris brought in here are leaving... that would indicate those guys bought-into Kinne, but our guys did not buy-into Morris. -

I bet it's a little of both honestly. Sure, some of these guys will have good(better?) opportunities elsewhere. It's just odd that several dudes who came in for just 1 year under a new regime would decide, "I'll leave after 1 year." ... unless they didn't buy-in. -

This might be one of the dumbest takes I've seen on here in a long time. Look at what his offense was able to do with Austin Aune under center. Can you imagine what he could have done here with a dude like Chandler Rogers? Just reeks of jilted lover syndrome. -

'24 DL Offer: Jaedon Langley, FW Boswell: No Rating

This is funny. Yes, Eric might know him. -
I certainly don't mind this pickup. Definitely worth the offer. But, as pointed out before, we have precisely 2 guys who have transferred in from a P5 and made huge impacts: Marcus Trice, and Jamori Maclin. That's it. (People need to stop citing Guyton, because he didn't transfer here from Notre Dame, he transferred from Trinity Valley CC). Sure, there are other guys who were in the 2-Deep, and contributed, but that's not what we need, and it's certainly not what many here are expecting in their excitement. Behind guys like Terrell, Pegram, Plantin, who contributed enough to actually help the team, there is a laundry list of dudes who came in from P5's to do virtually nothing. Guarded Optimism is what I have for Mr. Brice. Rhymes with Trice, so that's gotta be a good thing.

This makes sense, until you get to the part where the stupid-rich schools throw around so much money that the guy who is #85 on the money list is still making more than a top-5-paid guy at UNT or ARSt. Because that's where we're headed. Those guys used to be the ones who would transfer out for an opportunity to play more. Now, they'll have a financial decision to make, and that's really tough. Money talks. PT is earned and can be lost (be it to another player, or injury). -

So when they leave us do we let them come back?

Cam Ward will get way more than that! -

Get a few schools bidding against each other for his services... and he just might. Agree. -

I don't know why people think this part is not still happening. They're still student athletes. All of them are still getting free tuition, room&board, attending classes (even if they're online), etc... It's just that they're getting paid in-addition to that now. A lot of these guys transferring out of UNT have degrees with their names on them like we do. -

Offensively, I trust Morris' system will truly be a "Next man up" scenario. I hope the guys who are already here know this, and are ready to step up and get their 1000-yd season for their opportunities to get paid. It's not the best scenario for UNT, but it's a positive one. -

With all of these schools competing for Jamori's services... he's definitely going to win financially. I hope he writes personal "Thank You" notes to coaches Littrell, Bloesch, Morris, & Davis for helping him get there. It was fun watching him while here, and I hope he does well wherever he winds up. -

MeanGreenTexan replied to Tommy Gadberry's topic in Mean Green Football
This is the most important frame of reference here. These guys are transferring, because that is what the system is now encouraging them to do. It hurts us, as fans, to lose players we've come to enjoy watching suit up in Green. But it's not fair for us to get mad at them when they have an opportunity to earn 6, or even 7 figures playing football for a couple of years. There's not a single person here on this site who wouldn't make that trade. Don't even lie @Andrew. Now, dudes who were stuck on the bench... they're simply transferring to have an opportunity to play. We shouldn't be mad at them in the first place. -

For a school like ours, absolutely. For a school like DBU... you strengthen your already-ranked baseball program. -

Your story sounds very familiar. Believe me. So forgive me if it's very difficult to understand why you would condemn these young men for jumping at an opportunity to make life-changing money by playing a sport they've worked so hard at for over 1/2 of their lives. If some P5 school's collective says they're going to cut you a check for $500k-1million... what on Earth would that do for your mother? I know what it would have done for mine. -

Until he signs elsewhere, there's definitely a chance he could come back. KD Davis did!- 57 replies

He played at Vanderbilt for crying out loud. Of course his stats don't add up. He had to deal with SEC teams instead of SBC & AAC teams. Put Rogers in a Commodores helmet and I wonder how he does (heck, maybe we'll find out!) He played SEC football, and got a degree from Vanderbilt. That is a success to me. I promise I'm not saying that lightly, and definitely not out of spite to poo-poo Rogers. Ask any of our Parker County residents who happened to see Seals play. Now, it seems he just wants to ball close to home, and if he wants to go into business, UNT has some extremely competitive graduate programs in that arena... not to mention an insanely-successful alumnus who runs one of the most successful Tax firms in America, who probably could get him a nice position upon graduation if he so chooses. -

If Morris can land Seals (as much as I love what Rogers did for us this year, he was amazing), I'd say we upgraded. -

When the donors that were responsible for an overwhelming amount of that collective's seed money want him to run it, then he runs it. It's their money, they can choose who they want to oversee it. He wasn't appointed by anyone at UNT. The school is not able to be a part of it. It is what it is. -
