Another example - FBS needs to restructure
MeanGreenTexan replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
We just saw SMU win AAC via NIL deals (wins) & nonchalantly give up conference revenue shares so they could join the ACC (respect), due to the massive amount of money their donors have.- 77 replies

This is not a fair assessment since we didn’t have Buggs &, more importantly, Jones. Lets get back to full strength & see wha we look like against these upper echelon AAC teams before overreacting.
-
Nah, These guys are good, for sure. There’s a reason they’re playing us for 1st place.
-
Guess I was wrong. 😕

I’m really not sure what Stone is doing here, or why Coach Hodge is keeping him out there. Getting abused on the defensive end, or fouling. Immediately passes out/not a threat to do anything offensively. His +/- has to be horrible.
-
No way Edwards stays that cold in the 2nd half. After a horrendous start, we’re fine. Guys should feel good going into the lockerroom.
-
I’m pretty sure this is what they serve as “house wine” at the downtown location of Il Mulino.

All 4 of those guys would make this team immensely better. For me, it comes down to Hamlet or Mitchell. Javion for his handles, and ability to penetrate with that sweet left-handed floater. And defensively, he'd get after you. Tony for his off-the-charts talent/size combo, and defensive rim-protection. A true videogame character. If Allen wasn't contributing at the level he is, and we really only had Sissoko out there at the 5, it would be a no-brainer for him. I haven't seen a dude with the killer instinct Javion had though (TP was close, as was Jordan Williams). Adding his mentality and dribble into the lane, with the ability to either finish with that floater, or dish to an open Edwards/Scott/Jones/Buggs would be absolutely lethal. Give me Javion.

Not a lot of info here, but it does confirm it was due to disciplinary issues. It also said he wasn't a starter in Pete Golding's defense. https://www.clarionledger.com/story/sports/college/ole-miss/2023/11/04/ole-miss-football-isheem-young-lane-kiffin-texas-am/71458942007/ Also, in digging a little more, it seems the IASt fans grew frustrated with him due to multiple targeting penalties. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/college/iowa-state/cyclone-insider/2021/08/14/iowa-state-football-safety-isheem-young-goal-play-angry-less-penalties-cyclones-defense-top-10/8129673002/

I don't think enough is being said about this guy around here. He's doing a fantastic job with the ladies. I'm looking forward to seeing what they cook up for the Mustangs tonight! Speaking for many here on GMG.com, it's just so "surprising" that a guy could come in here and take over an 11-win team, and already have them at 13-3! I mean, it certainly should not be expected... what, with all of the roster turnover due to the portal, and what Coach Mitchell left him. </sarcasm> Speaking for myself, it's not surprising when a winner comes in and wins. Immediately. Without excuse. Takes the players he has, brings in complimentary new players, identifies quality staff, injects a winning mindset... which turns into a winning culture, and Voila! Wins pile up! He's not a good coach "for North Texas". He's a good coach. I'm glad Coach Burton is here, and I look forward to a deep run in the Conference Tournament! THIS YEAR!

Grading 1st Year College Football Head Coaches
MeanGreenTexan replied to Glory to the Green's topic in Mean Green Football
Down with the needless "UNT's standards" qualifiers! Tired of that BS. -
Have you not seen the amount of “surprise” here on GMG.com? Utter shock that a depth guy at a P5 would actually choose UNT?!? Wow, we’re so lucky! (Not saying this as a knock on Mr. Shipley. I really think he can come in here & contribute!) It’s not like UNT is a great school with fantastic athletics & support/$ for athletes! We must just be lucky a guy like him would even consider us, let alone commit. </sarcasm> Why wouldn’t everyone else be “surprised” when that’s the pervasive thought of our own fanbase?

Grading 1st Year College Football Head Coaches

No he didn’t, unless Bennett is a miracle-worker. He brought in his own flat tire of a DC & hamstrung his defense from the jump. -
Grading 1st Year College Football Head Coaches

Yes. We absolutely can, and should. Littrell was let go because he failed to live up to standards. Morris was brought in, and we all should have expected to IMPROVE on Littrell's failure. Immediately. Look at TX St. Look at UNLV. ...then look at us. D, or worse. -
QB commit - Chandler Morris - transfer from TCU
MeanGreenTexan replied to DentonLurker's topic in Mean Green Football
It's OK young one. You have much to learn about the subtleties of SMU fans' condescension. Hang around here long enough, and you'll learn to spot it. -
Again, another newer (at least, your handle is) poster throwing this fun little qualifier around. It does not appear my dear Alma Mater will ever escape this thought from it's own fans. When do we get to expect more?
-
I really do think CMorris can put up big #s in EMorris’ offense. We’ll see if he can stay healthy. But if we need him to scramble & play hero-ball, I don’t know if his knees will allow it. He’s missing Spring ball. He’s missing Maclin. He’s likely going to be playing from behind a lot due to the defense. I’m just not expecting CMorris to be much better (if at all) than Rogers, and we were not bowl eligible.

Yes. Multiple. The first one that pops into my head, due to their similar injury histories: Nick Harvey.
