You truly never really know what will resonate with people and why... I will say, as an oldhead, it's obvious that anyone saying this is the greatest diss track of all time has never heard ETHER, but I digress...
Kendrick writes a really good diss track against a Canadian superstar who's music is more radio-friendly, and popular.
For some reason, the youth of America falls in love with it. Many of these same people were probably mega fans of Drake beforehand (and maybe still are?).
So of course Hov wants to see this at the SuperBowl, and makes the call.
Of course he's gonna play the song. It just won a ton of Grammys, why would he leave it out?
He plays the song, and the stereotypical people that you'd guess would hate it... hate it (See CBL's picture above). These are the folks who thought The Who or Bruce Springsteen was their favorite SB halftime show ever.
Kendrick fans come out and say the song wasn't really written for people like that anyway. I mean, the song is called "Not like us" for crying out loud!
It's funny that it resonates with folks like this though:
Somehow, I don't think the same folks saying the song wasn't written for MAGA to appreciate would turn around and say, "yeah, it was written for this zesty guy in a cardigan!".
I love America. Carry on.
