  1. One I most want to stay, with the least likelihood he will stay: Canales One I least want to stay, with the greatest likelihood he will stay: Nelson
  2. Then, I don't understand how his background in developing D-line players is all that relevant.
  3. Are we expecting that he will coach a position here, such as defensive tackle? I don't think he would coach the entire D-line, since that's what Mike Nelson did most of the time McCarney was at Iowa State.
  4. Dang, you're right...but, hey it's harder to win here at North Texas.
  5. If that happens, I guess it would mean he has sold someone in Denton (Mike Canales) something. Hell, if he kept Canales and Gandy, it would go a little ways towards not trying to look like a know it all. Plus, if he could keep offense and special teams on the improve and breathe life into the defense, maybe he could get to a winning record in 2 or 3 years and get hired away to the big somethingorother. Of course, it depends on how you define winning.
  6. So, are those who talk about his winning ways hoping we can ignore the fact they gave him 12 years at Iowa State to get those 54 wins? Todd Dodge talked about getting to winning within 3 years, when he was talking "realistically" shortly after being hired. Is this 5 years to get to the wins considered a better management of expectations?
  7. Then hell, keep Chico on as interim for another year until we can decide who we REALLY want as a coach and can afford to pay them and their assistants competitively.
  8. On second thought, I agree with you. I actually started the thread as an idea of showing support for Chico, assuming that he would win such a "T shirt competition". Also, I thought an almost entire lack of support for "Coach Mac" might get some attention from our "decision makers". Anyway, if I had a "Lock the Gate" T-shirt, I would certainly wear that.
  9. +1 for that rough humor!
  10. I mean this would only be effective if large numbers did this, and it would be hard to coordinate anything at this late date. I'm not great at graphic arts myself, just thinking of getting some block letters somewhere and fastening them to a T shirt with safety pins to show support for my favorite. If enough people did it though, we might at least evoke a staredown from RV.
  11. +1, and I really appreciated the Thanksgiving day ch*ckle I got from that!
  12. Happy thanksgiving to you too Tony, and to all the Mean Green Nation.
  13. He didn't have to win to stay employed for many years as hfc at K State and Ball State. Did well at Marshall, but they may have been D1-AA then.
  14. If we win, fantastic beyond imagining. If we lose, Heck, so did McCarney in his first 5 or 6 tries.
  15. Link?
  16. I'll not comment on this as the letter itself is elegant and expresses quite well the feelings of one Cyclone player regarding the 3 coaches he has had at ISU You do need to read the entire letter though: Departing Iowa State QB's letter to fans
  17. Ah, we'll have to raise the pay levels of all assistant coach (including coordinator) positions in order to attract and keep the ones we want. I'm fairly certain that is understood and part of the proposed package of pay upgrades for head coach and assistant coaches.
  18. No, we don't have a main rival. And honestly, a lot of us don't want to go into a long explanation as to why a guy has an overall losing record, since apologists here did for our last 2 hfc's. You seem nice enough, but it took you 2 paragraphs to do it.
  19. Warning, they give some love to our music program, none to our athletics. Here's the link: Florida fans forum discussion of McCarney to UNT rumors
  20. I've heard from several places that he doesn't. How do you not have assistants, including coordinators, involved in recruiting?
  21. I liked this from one of the comments: He doesn’t have a history of winning as a head coach in college…
  22. Just looking at Wisconsin's record while he was there, it seems like he's someone who was promoted beyond his level of competence to head coach at Iowa State, kind of like Todd Dodge when he took the position at UNT. I mean, his first 5 years were not very good defensive numbers at Iowa State. I just don't get this hire, but I thought we had 3 smart guys figuring it out.
  23. Other years, skiing In Park City or other ski area near SLC.
  24. Honestly, I find it hard to believe that he lasted as long as he did at Ball State, or K State before then...oh, wait.
