  1. Yeah, I hear you; he has at least 3 years on the varsity, and did just about everything a running back/return man could do. I always thought he'd end up at UT or another Big 12 program.
  2. If so, those must have been some real slow dudes he was running past.
  3. I don't know where you'd be getting any information about the first number, but someone in the "industry" was quoted in the local media last week as saying the 60 "gentlemen's clubs" in the area will be requiring about 10,000 dancers for Super Bowl week. I never would have guessed that many.
  4. I think he could make us forget about some of the other guys we always hoped would work out at that position.
  5. I've mentioned that Cooley seems to keep up with prospects in the south metroplex area quite well; seems he has even broader knowledge than that. Honestly, if I were a North Texas coach, I'd at least consider the possibility of learning something from this forum. Why be particular about where you get a good idea? I'd love to see this guy in green.
  6. We're predicted to hit 16 by Wednesday morning and 12 by Thursday. I don't think it matters to most 17-18 year olds anyway; they think they're bulletproof. Probably better to talk playing time and show them the pretty coeds.
  7. Yes, Mubarak has had 30 years. Hey, if we had high unemployment problems as long as them, people would probably blame the current administration.
  8. +1, and I'd give you another 30 if I could, and another $40k/yr to Gaines. I know Montana State is missing him now.
  9. +1, what he said.
  10. 4, I think, but someone mentioned that Riley leaving freed one up.
  11. I thought I'd read somewhere that Kevin Robertson's coaches were encouraging him to go ahead and take his visit to Denton, maybe in hopes they's get him to decommit from Wyoming(?).
  12. As a geographer, I love the fact that you've posted something that puts mapping and football together! Two places I was noticing that are not in those "Deep South" states that score high: American Samoa and Utah. As a resident of Euless, Texas (note my screen name), it's been noteworthy that our football success has followed the move to out town of many with roots in Samoa, Hawaii, and (most especially) Tonga. Many of the young men from those families have the size and the desire to play football, often as linemen. Once this new North Texas coaching staff has reestablished credibility, I feel (as I stated when I originally joined this board) that North Texas should be recruiting some of these Euless kids. As for Utah, my wife (yes she's a Mormon) pointed out, hey that's where a lot of those families move, because so many of them are Mormon. But they can't all go to BYU, and we need to start presenting ourselves as an attractive option. Anyone reading this article linked by Deep should scroll down and read the part from the part (from the "SI Vault") about those of Polynesian heritage, most of whom have come from the American Mountain West. So, along those lines, here's another link, helping to further explain this geographic aspect of football, mentioning that a young man from Pago Pago, Samoa, is 40 times more likely to end up in the NFL than someone from any other part of the United States: Samoa and American football
  13. Well, with both of last year's starters gone, and, of the returning 4 players listed as DT having little or no college experience, how likely is that? A realistic hope at this point might be for one of them to redshirt. One thing I would like to see is for the staff to figure out a way to keep however many of those returning 4 here for summer school as is possible. That would give the new strength and conditioning coach a chance to get them into fall camp in shape to play. It's hard to believe that was the case last year.
  14. +1. The coaching staff he's assembled and the recruiting class he's two thirds completed are exceptional.
  15. And another +1 from here, NT03. I'm wondering if we may yet go after his Desoto teammate the wr Ajala (?). He also sounded like a good get, and we need 1 or 2 receivers in this class.
  16. The only downside I noticed about Stouffer is that the listed 40 time, 5.5 I think, per Rivals, may just not be what the new coaching staff finds acceptable. And that's not to say he won't find the right place for him; Central Arkansas has had some D linemen go to the NFL in recent years. One thing about any college level offensive line is that it's not unusual to find some pretty big guys on any of them, even down to the D3 level; the difference from D1 down to the lower levels is typically speed more than size. As this staff has shown with getting the DT Terell Brooks to commit earlier this week, there are still good D1 level players out there, even with the hard to fill positions like DT. This staff appears to have a plan, which requires a certain athleticism, and is executing it.
  17. There's a lot not to like about his ranking methodogy, but the greatest problem I have with the article is the talk about the potential the job gives the newly hired coach for "moving up". I'd like to know one sports fan who's looking for that in a newly hired coach. Maybe if they coached a two or three years for the school where they were just hired, it might be a worthwhile part of the discussion. The main thing I found interesting was the comparison of Mac's task at Iowa state against the Big 12 compared to what he'll face at North Texas against the Sun Belt. Yes, we'd all like a better conference home, but until then, we've got to start winning wherever we're playing.
  18. Yes, that's the part I just don't get.
  19. Yes, that's why I'm saying this article, if you read the whole thing, is complimentary to UNT. Brady Hoke, Al Golden, and Randy Edsall, all at the same 3 star rating as Coach Mac, puts him in some good company. It's just kind of a weird rating system for the schools and the coaches both.
  20. I think we'd all have to agree with you, but also we all know it will take the recruiting class, the new stadium, AND winning to change those perceptions. Oh, and yes, where does he get off rating the La La hire higher than ours? I mean, who is Mark Hudspeth? In that sense, yes, 4 stars for Dan would be reasonable.
  21. Well, the writer seems to be saying as much in his piece on La-La: "This is the second-best of the three Sun Belt jobs that came open, but it's a long drop from North Texas to ULL in the figurative sense." I guess he's inferrring there are problems with his rating system without right out admitting it.
  22. The link is pretty much the story, so here it is from the Rivals' "Mondays with Mike": Rating the jobs and the hires
  23. Yes, I have been noticing this over the last few (very few) days, and it has been a joy to see. It kind of validates the way so many of us feel about UNT, that it's a great place to go to college.
  24. +1. This reminds me of what I felt like after making out at the drive in with that bleached blond I used to date back in high school.
  25. I was also thinking about that; when an employer has someone with major travel requirements for their job, the travel expenses may enhance the overall compensation. Also, Vito has admitted that number crunching is not his forte.
