  1. That's great. Lance needs some touches, and the Cowboys need some offensive playmaking. Win win, then win.
  2. Good to hear he had some hs experience at db (I was suspecting tha was the case). He obviously has some speed, and that is something we've needed in the secondary. I think he'll make some plays back there.
  3. If he makes the final roster, most of us will start posting in the "why didn't we play Olawale more" thread, to the detriment of the "why aren't practices open" thread.
  4. I think he'll stick for another week.
  5. Did he have that many for UNT?
  6. I don't think the cowboys are giving up on him. Yet, anyway.
  7. A lot of good running backs haven't been all that tall. Mostly I'm basing this on our local high team, Euless Trinity Trojans though. We had a really good rb who was listed on their roster as 5'7", 170, something like that. He had a great year, led us to winning state, but was too small for D1 programs to sign (I guess). I got to looking for where he ended up, which was someplace like Alabama State, where he was listed as 5'4". He didn't require much of a hole to open up to get a first down, td, or whatever. He said something cool when being interviewed, something like, "I wish they could see the size of my heart". That said, I think Mac is probably still looking for the answer at rb, and may have been correctly quoted as projecting rb by committee. I just want the guy(s) who can help us win.
  8. You are correct about the possibilities, but I think it will require Thompson playing out his college career before it can be known as to whether those are "real" possibilities. Here's some discussion by some Boston College fans (hey, they have big time lawyers among their alumni, I believe). It "might" illuminate the discussion: http://atleagle.blog...anyi-momah.html Believe me, there's some pretty outrageous stuff out there, if anyone wants to shift the question off Dodge and to the NCAA (medical hardship for alcohol addiction?). Kind of interesting but mysterious stuff, with significant rules changes in recent years. Oh, and we should pray every night for a healthy and productive Derek Thompson for the next couple of years. He's our best hope for a winning season anytime soon.
  9. +1; I believe you're getting it.
  10. That may still be subject to debate, since it's actually possible to get a "regular" redshirt year plus a medical hardship "waiver" (as I recall they are not officially called a "medical redshirt). However, I doubt that anyone from UNT has ever gotten those 6 years (as Case Keenum did at UH), and the whole granting of medical hardships is as mystifying as anything the NCAA has going on. I have heard that if someone has already had a redshirt year, the granting of a medical hardship is less likely (and is not guaranteed, under any interpretation). However, if Thompson puts up Keenum like numbers over the next two years, I'm not going to complain about how he got to that point. If others do complain, I would find the debate more interesting than whether or not fall practices are closed.
  11. I am certain that you are correct, although I couldn't find anything online to confirm it. However, by clicking the link in the OP, one can read the just graduated Thompson referring to the prospect of attending graduate school with "2 years of eligibility". I'll take his word for that, since I'll consider someone who graduated in 3 years to be smarter than me.
  12. +1, and reading that makes me all the more aware of the importance of Coach Mac recruiting the Wichita Falls area. Folks, there are some sports crazed folks from there, and NT03 is a great example.
  13. My last 5 years as a senior were the happiest years of my life. And, congrats to Mr. Ryan Boutwell, of whom his father must be extremely proud.
  14. It would be cool to know who made the play; Chaz Sampson? I don't know why I'm thinking it might be him, unless someone else said so first (and elsewhere).
  15. People in this area have great Sundays to look forward to; church music featuring UNT musicians, followed by Cowboys football with Lance Dunbar featured back.
  16. Could someone please post a link to TBone Burnett's "Zombieland"? I'm too stupid now, since the Zombies had my brain for an afternoon snack. Oh, and it's great to see you here again, even if it's to add thoughtful commentary on complete insanity.
  17. Is it really a good idea to bring potential recruits to Denton at a time when most of the female students are not here in town? I mean the question,"why not North Texas?" seems like it should be asked at a certain time, and maybe this isn't that time.
  18. Uh, no. Think of all the things that could go wrong, and know that, somewhere, sometime, Murphy's law kicks in.
  19. Here's a twitter-free version of this very sad and completely preventable story: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/rip-louisiana-tech-mascot-tech-xx-212501212--ncaaf.html
  20. I think Craig Robertson was the most solid defensive player for us during his time here, and a good guy. I hope he gets on the roster; if he does, he will get playing time and make the most of it.
  21. When a man of such power knows something so wrong is happening and does nothing to stop it (at least by removing Sandusky's access to the athletic facilities where he could carry on his activities), he'd have to be the creepiest "grandfatherly figure" I can imagine. And we're all really screwed (pun intended)if that's what the NCAA would like to see at every university in the nation. Yeah,a lot of things are covered up at the "big time" programs, but child rape in the men's shower? Other than Dave Bliss as Baylor head basketball coach, I'd have a hard time seeing how anything else I've heard comes close, in terms of collegiate sports. But, the culture of collegiate basketball and Coach K of Duke basically condemning those who ratted out Bliss (basically blackballing one assistant), now there's a story.
  22. I don't know how many here have ever worked for a municipality (of course those in law enforcement, firefighting, parks and rec, among other fields have and still do). As a city staffer, I can assure you that there are many issues out there concerning municipal funding of such venues that could make seeking those partnerships less than attractive to those in university communities. I do think that the proposed joint venture between Denton and UNT for a convention center can work because of a shared need for such a facility.
  23. Really, looking at the first link, I agree with those commenting that it seems like a lot to pay for a stadium of that capacity, and it looks like it would be difficult to expand, what with the porch roof. It reminds me of what one of the HKS engineers said when my wife and I were taking him to a Euless Trinity season opener at the Cowboys Stadium; "now that North Texas Stadium is going to be nice...the kind of place where you can really enjoy watching a game". Also, does anyone else get the feeling that Apogee would cost a lot more to build if we were just now releasing plans for bid?
  24. A thread that started out promising enough, then quickly went in the toilet. Speaking of, is there any place with better restrooms for tailgating than Apogee? I mean, anybody that wants to say we're small time, should be reminded that we've paid attention to what matters.
  25. It's unfortunate when writers make such a reach trying to say....(something cute?), that they fall on their face before they've gotten past the first paragraph. They should remember that writing is work, and put some effort into it. Heck, we helped get the Houston football program started, back when they didn't have any friends.
