Random Idea in regards to changing the culture...
eulessismore replied to UNTstormchaser's topic in Mean Green Football
Actually that Haka and Euless Trinity recruiting sound like great ideas, but the whole idea turns out to be more complicated than that. That said, Trinity head coach Steve Lineweaver is one of the football world's great guys, and one who loves to see his guys go on to succeed in college. Still, the culture in Euless favors the running game, and Lineweaver will be the first to tell anyone that he'd love to have a more balanced offense, but can't abandon what has brought so much success. There are more reasons than I can get into here as to why schools out west, BYU in particular, have done well recruiting at Trinity, but one of our assistants, Justin Gaines, has had some success there, and UNT will pick up one or two good guys from Trinity from time to time. I believe Darius Terrell may be one. Still, we do need "new traditions" (two words that seem strange together). I'm trying to think of something that could entail creative use of the new pedestrian bridge, maybe the Green Brigade leading the student body on some kind of spirit walk across there that could be cool but not bring I35 traffic to an even greater standstill than it already is at times. Something. -
I think Stock has mentioned being grateful for a "second chance", but I don't think Mac, that son of an Iowa City police chief, can turn a complete blind eye to such behavior.

In context, "pled would be correct", but "your" would not. Somehow, this conversation reminds me of a western with James Garner being an English teacher and turning down a challenge to a gunfight, with some line like, "but I'll stand toe to toe and conjugate verbs with you".

+1 for covering so much ground in 2 short sentences. But, most people in school now wouldn't get it. -
The overthrown passes last Saturday night were not likely to be intercepted.

Missed wide left.

Happy Birthday to UNT QB Derek Thompson

DT, just get out there tonight and have some fun! -
I hear you Emmitt! My heart goes out to those guys, especially Zach Olen and Derek Thompson, who have done a lot for the team and have represented our school well. This morning I was thinking about how demanding that college can be for those in athletics , who do as much or more in the classroom and then put in more time than most of us realize in practicing and playing. Heck, I haven't had their kind of schedule since I was in the Army all those years ago. To me, that's what the life of a student athlete seems like it must be at times (without the live ammunition); that of a basic trainee in the Army or Marines. Hmmmm, did I miss some sarcasm? Nah! Hey guys, go get 'em next week!

Did y'all not watch the video? The first 2:10 of it WAS from actual games. And, at the 2:02 mark, he is shown kicking the go ahead field goal in their 2011 playoff win against Euless Trinity. The following link describes the weather conditions in that game, but doesn't go near far enough in describing how bad the weather was that day (no I wasn't there, sorry to say, just happened to be driving past Pennington Field as the game ended). As I recall, there was a cold rain on top of those swirling 40 mph winds. Here's the ESPN feature on his kick that day. And this, for an Arlington Martin team that had done almost nothing against Trinity in several previous attempts over the last decade, when Trinity basically looked like men against boys. Here's the link: http://espn.go.com/b...ce-solid-as-ice

Kicker Ben Grogan, Arlington Martin

Is he the one who beat my Euless Trinity team in the playoffs last year with a kick in that driving rain? -
I was glad to see Cantly get the sack for a 7 yard loss.

I haven't really seen enough from Jeremy Brown to convince me he's a consistently good runner, but he has speed, and I'd like to see some attempt to get him involved in the passing game. Other than Brelan, who can't do it all, we just don't have the guys with breakaway speed. We need more plays where we're catching the ball in stride and getting big yardage, anything other than these trips to the red zone with no points.

Desperate times call for desperate measures?

Finally, acknowledgement that "the culture has changed". Much of the change started when people began passing the bong while watching cowboys football on tv (of course, I have only heard about this from others).

What EXACTLY is Vito's Agenda?

Well, it's all just got to be part of a large DFW anti UNT conspiracy. Otherwise, why even start threads about it? And is it possible that the threads themselves are hoaxes, planted by SMU fans, DFW mainstream media outlets, Denton establishment types, and anyone living in Denia Park who isn't named Pedro? Threads to make us take up time scrolling through "Vito doesn't love us enough" postings before actually getting to football talk. We can't really be sure until we PERSONALLY question those alleged to have started the "Vito" threads in the football forum at this most sacred football time of year. I mean, their accounts could have been hacked, and they're being blamed for this while they're actually vacationing in Aruba or some such place. -
I watched on TV at home and LOVED watched us move the pile against K State. I had this feeling before the season started that great O line play would be the key to staying in games against ranked opponents, and that appears to be happening. I agree with whoever mentioned how a lot of credit should go to Simmonds and Wintrich. Simmonds has been a real hero is his personal life, and I think we're very fortunate to have him here.

A fifth of a dime bag?

And good enough to make those bozo commentators drool over that TD run.
-
Yeah, even as lame as those announcers were, they did give us some well deserved respect.
-
Yeah, I think he's getting some rhythm going. I liked him passing to the running backs some, and Darnell Smith making a catch. We can't do it all with the running game. If we can pass as well as we did tonight, we can go over 500 this year, maybe win 7 or 8.
-
Yeah, haven't we noticed all those other teams going for it against us on 4th and converting. Now WE have a stout O line, coaches, in case you haven't noticed.

How can that work, pins?
