  1. There's just something lacking about a critter called the "Big East West", although I guess the "New, new" descriptor softens it up a little. Maybe something like the "Really big New, newer, improved, bigger, more better, Big East West".
  2. He looks like a great get!
  3. You know, King, you're right, I mean the mother of Jerry Brown forgave Brent, powerfully so. Here's a story where she is mentioned: http://www.rgj.com/usatoday/article/1773695&usatref=sportsmod A lot of us should consider whether we should get off our high horse and look within ourselves to realize that sometimes it was only good fortune that kept us from such tragic circumstances. What a hell of a thing to have to live with for the rest of your life.
  4. With Jerry Jones as the owner, what should we expect?
  5. So, the summer practices were the good part?
  6. +1. And of course, some staff where we work there at the City do not favor the policy of overlooking those minor offenses. And there are reasons a lot of people are taking dui at any level quite seriously. But, I am glad you are in favor of the "correction" part of corrections.
  7. Maybe you could stop just north of the Oklahoma state line and play some Choctaw Bingo. UNT alumni Ray Wylie Hubbard has sung about that; just saying.
  8. Kram1, I don't think most here are advocating no consequences at all for the young men, who certainly made a mistake. The argument of most, which seems reasonable to me, is for the punishment to be appropriate to the offense, and result in lessons being learned. And yes, similar offenses have happened before, under previous regimes, with those who offended receiving a second chance. I just think we need to make some distinction between those who have engaged in violent, and more serious offenses, and try to get those who have made lesser mistakes back on the right path. And yes, they do have to learn that theft, at any level, is a crime taken very seriously by most, and certainly in Texas. I do know that any conviction or pending prosecution on any theft charge will keep a person off jury duty in Tarrant County, Texas. And no, I don't recommend that for getting out of jury duty.
  9. If you look at the great numbers the article shows on the sidebar, outside of the Navy game with those incredible 8 touchdown passes, he had 24 td passes in 21 games, and the entire team had about 20 average points scored for those 21 games. If any of this sounds familiar, it should. Nothing against Vizza, but we still have some of the same issues to resolve, which all comes down to one question: how to score more points. Hey, I hope Berglund turns out to be the next great QB that everyone is dreaming about, but I don't really care how we do it, we've got to become more explosive in terms of scoring on offense. It's great that we've had the offensive line and the running backs that have done so well, but we have to have the quality and depth of quarterbacks and receivers that we have not had, and some play calls that actually stretch the field. It sounds like we have two new quarterbacks coming in next year; honestly, that should be at least 3, unless McNulty's true calling is QB and he's at least good enough for #3 on the depth chart. And Santa, some receivers with game changing speed and great hands.
  10. I guess that's a pretty good lifetime for a musical legend, I think Dave Brubeck passed away maybe a week shy of 92. We all knew of Shankar as the Sitar virtuoso who inspired George Harrison and other rock stars of that era, but it truly blew my mind to learn of him as the father of UNT's own Norah Jones. He was estranged from Sue Jones and Norah as well for at least a decade, but I understand that he and Norah came to some kind of reconciliation. I have thought more than once that UNT musicians are only a degree or two (or less) of separation from the musical legends of our times, and I guess this is a story to illustrate that: http://music.yahoo.com/news/indian-sitar-virtuoso-ravi-shankar-dies-92-045723085.html I really enjoyed listening to his music as well as what he inspired in George Harrison, and especially the historically significant Concert for Bengladesh. He was an artist who made a difference.
  11. They're already going border to border and coast to coast.
  12. My wife is a Mormon, but when I told her about the discussion on the board back then as to whether Canales was a Mormon, she (a BYU ex) said, "it doesn't matter whether he's a Mormon, what matters is he knows how to win".
  13. +1. Players leave programs all the time due to coaching changes and (at least) perceived changes in the pecking order of recruits who committed to the previous regimes. If we can't take a flyer on guys with this kind of potential, unrealized as it may be, we'll never get the rewards from taking risks.
  14. That's the first thing I thought of. He probably was informed of his future (of lack of future) at Tech following that game.
  15. Dayum, wish I'd been there instead of doing chores and errands.
  16. I've heard that the Desoto quarterback is hard to stop; please provide some live updates.
  17. So we could drive to away games in San Jose and Reno?
  18. Snow College would be a good pipeline to develop. They have a solid history. Chico coached there for a long time, I think. Connection?
  19. Passed away today at age 92; it was a great pleasure seeing him perform at UNT's Murchison Center a few years ago when he was a mere lad of 89. He had just cut his concert schedule from 200 a year to 100, in a concession to advancing age. My understanding is that he was still still touring and loving it in recent days. He will truly be missed, but it's hard to be that sad about someone finding what they loved and doing it the rest of his days. I'll still remember what he said about his visit to Denton, "We've truly had a wonderful time here". Take Five, Dave! Here's one obit, from the L.A. Times: http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-dave-brubeck-20121206,0,4002374.story
  20. The problem is, that every time some kind of rule gets written, we find out later on it only applied to UNT.
  21. We're well beyond sports knowledge by now; the Bard wrote it well: Hamlet: And therefore as a stranger give it welcome. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
  22. What if that skinny musician was Buddy Holly? Receiver split out wide?
  23. more'd?
  24. Hey, I'm hoping for nothing but starting on Sunday and All Pro seasons for Olawale, as he seems like a fine young man, and his success could bring us some needed publicity, but dayum, am I going to have to cheer for the Raiders?
