  1. We will have the opportunity to improve over SMU and Rice the only way it matters: beat the on the field in the years to come.
  2. Very cool the Grandparents from Idaho; Derek reminds me of that work ethic they have up there in that extension of Mormon country.
  3. The print version of the Dallas Morning News (I was a paperboy as a kid, and got the ink in me) has us as the second score listed on the top of the front page "College Football" banner, just below A$M/Rice, fourth blurb from the top on the front page of Section C "Sports Day" between Texas and Baylor, second blurb from the top on front page of Section CC "Sports Day 2", between Ok State and Oklahoma; headline "NORTH TEXAS PLAYS LIKE LEGENDS IN OPENER", with Brett Vito's full writeup prominently featured on page 5 (centerfold) of CC, opposite Oklahoma, headline "UNT starts off with win". It featured the story of the uniforms, the legends being honored (specifically mentioning Mean Joe Greene), and quotes from Derek Thompson and Zach Orr, with a photograph of Brandin Byrd on his way to scoring a touchdown (by David Minton of the DRC). Derek Thompson was mentioned as "noone playing a bigger role in the win"; also Brandin Byrd, Brelan Chancellor and Laramie Lee (for the two fumble recoveries) were prominently mentioned. I don't remember seeing better print coverage of a UNT game, but unfortunately, only started following the football program closely since 2007. Say what you will about Vito, but I think he did us proper this Sunday (and I'm writing this just before midnight Sunday); hope I made the deadline).
  4. +1 to all this, except would prefer the rocking (and widely covered) "I drove all night", although Orbison did not write it. But I would never complain about "In dreams" soaring out of the east stands.
  5. I'd just like to see what he has to say now about Chancellor returning punts.
  6. I was thinking the same. And could have started 2-0 if we had attempted and made a field goal just before half time against Ohio. That's all I'll have to say about that.
  7. Like many, I've been critical of Derek Thompson. I am glad to be proven wrong for tonight, and hope to remain in the camp of the Man from Glen Rose. It was hard to judge McNulty based on the brief time he was in there; however, I did like what I saw of Dajon Williams. Every team needs a true leader at QB, and every team needs depth at QB. There's a lot to like in our situation right now.
  8. This. One play in any game, and a redshirt is not possible for that year.
  9. Hey, as Simon (Paul) says, the weatherman ain't a lying.
  10. Yeah, damn. I wonder if some here don't realize we've had players from this program die in recent years. Worrisome.
  11. Honestly, I'm just concerned about the long term health of this young man. It's hard to think that football, or any college sport, is the most important thing, especially after such multiple setbacks.
  12. You know, that's a good point. I do hope that Brown can come in and play at some point in the season, but only if he's completely ready to play. The coaching staff admits we had no depth at db last year, so perhaps that affected the Warner decision. With Mac claiming that we do have enough dl players in the rotation, maybe it would be worth considering applying for a medical hardship. Honestly, we may need him more in the next 2 years.
  13. Uh, no. Right now, 73 compared to 96 in DFW area. Lacking in knowledge of Texas geography?
  14. I can laugh at this today, from the cool mountain air of Fort Davis, Texas. Tomorrow, back to understanding Dante. Honestly though, isn't the heat our friend Saturday?
  15. Well, in defense of you two guys (and others here on GMG), there have been others (not associated with UNT football) I have heard praise him, and when I mentioned the sentiment by some wanting him at NT, said in so many words, "yeah".
  16. Hey, we have a son of a potato farmer president; he knows potatoes. Every time I attend any family stuff in Idaho, there's always potato farmers or their kids in attendance. Part of having married a Mormon, I guess.
  17. Wording my friends, is so much more important than ever. Consider the difference between "Thompson has been taking snaps solely with the first string offense" and "only Thompson has been taking snaps with the first string offense". And 3-2-1 before Doggy Style posts "I told you so"!
  18. So, that team had a player named "King Block"? I think he's the rather stout looking lad standing next to what would then have been called a stewardess. What a football name. I mean "Tom Trees" is cool, but he needed to be taller.
  19. I'm sure a lot of us wondered about the same thing. How close did Osborn get us inside the red zone against Alabama, to be pulled? And how badly did McNulty play against Tulsa, not to be pulled? But, as much as we would all believe that personal feelings should be kept out of personnel decisions of all kinds, we all know that personal feelings factor into what people do at work. Hey, all coaches have their doghouses; sometimes they seem more like a roach motel.
  20. It's only natural for a young man to rely on his natural abilities. There is some point in college where that doesn't work; hopefully that occurs early and is overcome.
  21. I hate to ask this, but did that same guy run back another td on us last year?
  22. I got mine, but haven't looked at them real closeup. Should I?
  23. I think that is THE best news in a while. Game breaking speed at wideout is something that we have been needing more of for a while. Hopefully, this will take some pressure off Chancellor.
  24. Stupid me. I keep coming back to this thread thinking it will be more info about Erick Evans.
  25. I talked to his girlfriend at one of the NT home games last year (she was wearing a shirt with his number or something like that). She said, "you've seen what he can do; all he needs is a chance". I'd like to see him throw the flea flicker or some such.
