One of my stepsons married an Iowa girl. Her dad has been Hayden Fry's golfing partner, and her mother was Dan McCarney's high school English teacher, so I guess she's been around coaching talk. When they came to town to visit, we informed the new bride, Amy, of all these dramas surrounding the recently ended Dodge experiment. Her reaction: "what would make him think he could just step into that situation (from high school coaching)?" Yet so many of us, myself included, thought he could.

I would say, 7-5 and a bowl invitation would be a reasonable point at which to begin this discussion. But, if we only went 7-5 regular season from this point, I would be disappointed. Still, It would just be such a significant departure from where we have been that I think the conversation would be valid. The big unknown: The attitude of the next President on coaching salaries.

Ok, back to the real subject of the thread, Abbe is playing lights out better than he has played in the past; very physical and very smart. If he doesn't get to the passer, he gets his hands up, and very often getting it tipped. Very impressive, Mr. Abbe.

Well, a t-shirt I saw at one our Euless Trinity Trojans games said "don't go out without a Trojan". So...where could we be going with this?
