  1. I did not know that. So, we're playing at a higher level of competition than the Comets, thank God.
  2. Then, all the players wanted Gary Hogeboom. Later, one of the players was quoted saying, "If Hogeboom had more touch, he could get more interceptions".
  3. I don't think that quarterback was responsible for the snap from center that went maybe 10 feet over his head at a critical point late in that game, or the lack of much defense from our side.
  4. My apologies to you, the Comets and the green Jaguars. I hope never to overlook the "N" between "U" and "T" again.
  5. I must inform you otherwise by posting this link: http://cometsports.utdallas.edu/ It looks like they're tearing it up in DIII, which is a step above NAIA.
  6. Wouldn't that have to be licensed by UNT, as the SOW is protected under copyright law?
  7. When you're up in Idaho, as I am occasionally for family events, and the potato farmers start talking, you start realizing after a while that these are farmers who never really see their crops while they're growing. Maybe they're seeing something there others don't.
  8. We need to put him on scholarship and let him eat whatever he and the trainers want. This guy is already a man. If that 4.63 40 is even close to accurate, for his size, it's amazing. We need him in Denton.
  9. Ok, THAT is strange. We're not good enough for NAIA, and don't have time to work UTA into our schedule?
  10. If you're saying that DART is not running what is variously referred to as "limited", "express", or "limited express", where trains don't make all the usual station stops, I'd have to agree with you, especially since there is no such service available anywhere in the DFW area. To run a service of that kind would require either a.) having triple or quadruple track setups for the section where the "express" is being run, b.) bypassing passengers waiting along the way, affecting the schedule of the "nonexpress" trains, while bypassing passengers waiting at the excluded station stops, many of whom rely on mass transit to get to work, even on New Years Day, or c.) running it at night, when other trains are not scheduled (more likely on intercity routes). Someone has pointed out correctly that the "TRINITY RAILWAY EXPRESSSSSSS" is not an "express" train, as it always makes all its stops. Anyway, my apologies if you're not complaining about the provision of this wonderful benefit to UNT football fans, but are rather a train nut like me, parsing the terminology being used. However, I have gotten some sense of this not really being appreciated for the gift that it is. If anyone really thinks that there will be any form of express commuter or local rail service in this area, I would have to suggest that they look at their voting patterns, commuting patterns, and transportation expenditures and ask themselves if they and others they know have the political and personal will to do what it would take to at least double the trackage for passenger trains in this area, and get those quadruple tracks going. I know it won't be easy for you, as I have seen careers, political and otherwise, ended for those who were in the forefront of leadership to get us what we have in the way of rail transit for this area, which is a hell of a lot better than probably anything closer than Chicago. And sorry for the rant, just a lifelong train nut and 12 year TRE rider. Given the train nut disease by my now 82 year old brother in law, who, as I expected, nearly killed himself by coming to Dallas the weekend after Thanksgiving to ride the McKinney Avenue Trolley and passing out on the streets of downtown Dallas. Not anything I looked forward to, since I work in an office with Dallas Fire Rescue staff, and know what they have to go through in their work. Sad thing, he only got to the light rail part, didn't get to the trolley. He'll be back. I tell you, this train nut disease can kill you like any other addiction. I just know I'll never stop riding.
  11. You don't have to be like someone to learn something from them.
  12. How's that working out for ya?
  13. Karl Benson is looking after our interests here, so not to worry.
  14. Here's what you do: Click on this link: http://www.dart.org/schedules/schedules.asp Click on the system map, or if you kinda know where you are, one of the "location" maps. I figured that due to being in Euless, I was in the "DFW Airport Service" area, and clicked on that. Read the map and looked at the train lines and stops; closest to me (since the TRE, which I take every working day, has NYD as one of its 6 holidays) is the "Belt Line" station on the "Orange Line", which I would probably take from the PGBT turnpike. I may decide to take the "North Lake/College Station" station, depending on how I feel that morning (suck on that A$M). I can take that at shortly after 5 a.m. and get down to the American Airlines Center by 5:48, in time to transfer to a Green Line by 6:03 or so, which will then take me to Fair Park. I've taken this Green Line one time, so know it works. Well, that's pretty much it. I guess I've seen some scary characters on DART light rail, but figure I own the world at that time of morning, which is pretty delusional since I realized back when I was in the Army that I was brain dead at that hour, but hey, ex-paratrooper sleep deprived zombies can probably look pretty scary themselves when they want to. And you can hit that old home button any old time to figure out how to buy a ticket online, get a "gopass" (whatever that is) for your mobile device, whatever. It just takes some reading. Hey, you're from UNT, you're smart enough to avoid driving in Dallas and trying to find that perfect parking space. Honestly, you may find you enjoy the whole experience, even if you can't get UNT/DCTA to collaborate. If we really wanted to make the whole thing work, we'd charter an amtrak train from Houston by way of San Antonio and Austin like them Okies have done at times for traveling to Fair Park. for that game. Heck, put those UNLV folks in charge of putting a charter together that stops in Fort Worth to pick up some of us Tarrant Countians. Talk about old men in the club car playing card games! Oh, ok, here's the link to get started with that Amtrak Charter; I know someone can get that going: http://www.amtrak.com/charter-your-private-train
  15. Discouraged? Hell, I'm just glad I'm not still trying to figure out why I'd want to go to Memphis at this time of year, or any time of year. I think it'd take W.C. Handy, Sam Phillips, and Mark Twain combined to explain it to me. And no, I've never been there. I go to Dallas every working day of my life, and will be glad to go on New Years Day, 2014.
  16. He's beaten SMU once already, when they had a healthy Garrett Gilbert, so yeah. I thought he looked good in that game, so wondering, why leave?
  17. We need to send them home with a loss this time. That would be the best gift from Dallas to Vegas since we gave them Benny Binion.
  18. Well I love making those train trips myself, but the TRE does nor operate on Sundays or holidays, like NYD, except for rare occasions like the third game of the NBA finals whenever the Mavs played in that.
  19. We need to start an effort right now to get TRE to run an "event" train to drop people off and pick them up at the AAC before and after the game. I'm sure these things have been done and can be done.
  20. Well, San Diego is a lovely place, but the sponsor needs to do something about that name. And Rick, San Diego is 2 words, getting that up to 7 words for that name.
  21. Yep, the Victory Park NYE party is the thing. And every train line, A Train, Dart light rail, TRE, Amtrak, go there, or are just a short connection away ("next stop, Union Station, please collect your belongings and newspapers and prepare to depart the train"). Hoping we can get the College of Music and the UNT Dancers involved.
  22. 1. There's a big old electronic billboard advertising the HOD Bowl that's the biggest thing TRE riders see when the westbound train crosses Stemmons/IH35. By the way, the TRE "Winter Whistler Express" is pretty cool (yeah, pun intended). 2. The mayor, Mike Rawlings, is a big HOD supporter. And he's an old college football player himself-at Boston College, I believe. 3. The tallest building in town (Bank of America?), has always been lit green. Rawlings recently presided over its being relit with led lighting, and raved about how it reminded him how that he's always felt "Dallas is Oz", and this confirms that (I don't really get the reference myself). 4. The Omni Hotel looks badass all lit up with whatever color when driving into downtown eastbound on IH30; I'm hoping they have it all done up in "Mean Green" for our New Years Eve party 5. Pretty much all the downtown skyline has been converted to led lighting (some complain you just can't get away from the stuff), so whatever buildings are led can go "green", at least for NYE. 6. Dart's Green Line goes to Fair Park. Nuff said. 7. Lance Dunbar was the player every Cowboys fan in Dallas wanted to talk about after Thanksgiving. Let's keep that talk alive.
  23. Yes, he did. Still, why let facts get in the way of a good story? I'm sure one of the reasons we like Coach Mac is his enthusiasm. Some say that Hayden Fry was somewhat creative in his recall of our history.
  24. I thought it was 200k, or would that make it seem even worse?
