  1. Oh yeah! My neighbor says he's a cousin. I love the way Coach Lineweaver said, he'd "love to see him playing up there (at UNT) now, right up the road".
  2. Happy birthday in advance, man!
  3. Hmmm, from what I'm reading, I'm thinking of my favorite western movie character "Shane", who didn't start out looking so fearful when the bad guy said, "we call this one sarsasparilla". They didn't call him that after he was done:
  4. Excellent work they did, KingDL1!
  5. Not to nitpick, but I think it's "Syd" Moore. Link: http://etsn.fm/etsn-25-recruiting-countdown-no-15-syd-moore-dt-van/
  6. This. Yes, I love Coach Mac, but the contract is ultimately about quality of coaching staff.
  7. Yeah, I was among the doubters, but one tendency that I think he has shown is to finish strong. I wish nothing but the best for the man; he's shown great character.
  8. I think you have a good point about preparation, but would apply it to the building site in general, not just the concrete. It's also likely that the soil conditions in the Allen area are more demanding in the need for that than where Apogee is located, as they are located in the "Blackland Prairie region of Texas, which extends into the southeastern corner of Denton County, but not in the City of Denton; certainly not in the part of town where the UNT Main Campus is located. Ever notice all those oak trees around the UNT campus? Those are on the Cross Timbers, which is much better suited to construction. The Blackland Prairie (so named from the soil color, of course), is well known for it's expansive clay soils, and their contribution to foundation problems in this area. Pretty much every article on the internet about these problems is advertising foundation repair services, as is the one I'm linking to, but at least it cites some work from my old home, the Geography Department at UNT. It does mention that residential foundations are the most vulnerable, since homebuilders are wanting to keep construction costs low, and state regulations are more stringent for commercial than residential construction, but it does call out school buildings, and the problems caused by cost conscious school districts skimping on construction budgets. Here's the link (and I'm not recommeding their services, as I don't know anything about them): http://foundationsolution.com/North_Texas_Soil_Technical_.html So, I see it as possibly one thing leading to another; expansive soils, pressure to keep public school budgets low, leading to skimping on the costs for the best construction practices for this area. Still, I don't think there's an excuse for a building as new as Allen Stadium to have such severe problems as are being reported. It should be interesting to see what problems are found and remedies suggested.
  9. Well, that is an interesting take from someone who has been around North Texas basketball since the days of Bill Blakeley.
  10. Based on expectations, perceived value, attendance, and lack of excitement, he is still fail. He is just not "epic fail". And considering that attendance here was actually pretty good during the time you mentioned, maybe JJ has exposed a problem for SMU; lack of any noticeable community support.
  11. Hugging and a chalkin'
  12. If he's already sat out a year, wouldn't he be eligible this (2014) year?
  13. Thanks for the links, and welcome to the board, OKC Green.
  14. Yeah, I saw that, but never mentioned it, as the whole concept of an NCAA and NFL Hall of Famer and multiple Super Bowl winner really "settled" for anything is somewere below the worst powerhouse bootlicking. Dent had to settle for me looking up North Texas in the glossary, reading that pathetic attempt at serious writing, and setting the book back on the library shelf. I just stopped by there on my way home from work, didn't make a more serious effort at reading than Dent did at writing. A shame that a subject calling for such serious reflection was trivialized in that manner. Honestly though, I don't know who Dent is, and at this point will never care. The book is thick, and will serve some as a doorstop, and others as a reminder that good writing is more than word count. Less could have been so much more.
  15. Hell, many's the time I've gone to the concession stand when the football team was in the redzone just so they would score. I wish I had kept stats on red zone percentage with me getting a coke. I hated missing the Jimmerson score on the screen pass against ULL during that nationally televised game. You're welcome.
  16. Well, that should provide the close coordination between safety and cornerbacks coach that Mac was talking about.
  17. So, Shavod Adkinson never played? He signed with the Iowa Barnstormers and then with the Omaha Beef.
  18. I didn't see this linked anywhere else on GMG.com, so here it is (also mentions Garrett Gilbert): http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/columnists/rick-gosselin/20140216-gosselin-why-the-nfl-should-ve-invited-smu-s-garrett-gilbert-north-texas-brelan-chancellor-to-combine.ece
  19. The history page for the Division of Jazz Studies indicates 1959 as the date when the premier band, which had been the "Two O'Clock", had its rehearsal time changed to One O'Clock, by the recently hired Director Leon Breeden. Thus the name change for the band (and this debunks the theory of it having been named after the popular jazz tune "One O'Clock Jump"). Here's the link: http://jazz.unt.edu/node/119
  20. Nobody wears a green shirt better than Mac. The Army should start requiring that shirt for its dress uniforms.
  21. God bless you and get healed up James; your health is what matters.
  22. I don't expect a win, but I expect the preparation and effort to make a win a possibility. I personally think no team should go out there expecting to win or to lose, but to know what it takes to win and do your best to make it happen.
  23. Hey, the guy has talent; he's just having to learn, like so many when they transition to the next level, that talent isn't enough, and work habits are key.
  24. My wife and I sat with his (and Connor's) grandparents at the HOD Bowl breakfast tailgate. Great folks from some small town up in Oklahoma. The grandfather pointed out Jess, wearing his letter jacket, and said "he's the next one". Maybe that bodes well for us.
