I have been aware they were much improved this year when they played Texas (not Louisiana) Tech tough. Of course, that's when people might have thought Tech was better than they look now.

Carlos Harris is one of the guys on this team with no quittin' in him. He has maybe tweeted a thing or two that has made some of us old fogies roll our eyes, but at the end of the day, he makes it count on the field.

And don't get me wrong, I don't see Andrew McNulty as the major part of the problems we face right now. It's just that we were beaten in every phase of the game by a team we dominated in every way last year, which was starting a freshman quarterback for the first time. I wish I could find some statistics for how he played last year, but Southern Miss lost by some really lopsided scores in the weeks following their loss to us by over 40 points, I believe. My point is, they put some faith in a young quarterback who they knew was going to pay off for them down the road, and despite paying the price in losing some games by blowouts until the last game of the season, they stuck with him. Now that appears to be paying off for them, although their record isn't much better than ours so far (although 2 of their 4 losses are against Mississippi State and Alabama), they seem to be on the improve, and very important, they're improving at quarterback. I'm just trying to square that with our approach, and I know that no situation is exactly the same. What I would like to see is DW getting some meaningful playing time in the remainder of the year, although that there is some possibility that McNulty gets us somewhat of a better chance at some wins. At some point, this team is going to have to go for it on 4th and 1 at the 40, and at some point, this team is going to have to go with a quarterback who has more potential along with more risk. Hey, if nothing else, have our backup quarterbacks do a few warmup throws from time to time, rather than having them just stand around when it looks questionable whether the starter can get back up and into the game again. And I do think that McNulty wasn't throwing as well when he went back in after being hurt (not that we had much chance at that point). Hey, if we're going to have a down year, let's at least look like we're more involved than the 16(?) redshirts on the roster from this year.

It was great to get TV and finally learn what everybody at work was talking about. Before then, when we all sat around on Saturday afternoons watching the radio, I never could figure out why we were doing that, except that all those different colored tubes looked kind of cool. Then, we got that first TV and I realized: we had been watching the radio to practice watching the TVs that Mac was bringing.

Hey, one thing that hasn't been mentioned is the Rice player that pissed on our stadium last year. Which of our players will return the favor? Where is Big Dick Abbe when we really need him?

Football Andrew is fake Tony Benford. Basketball Andrew is real Tony Benford.

I guess I can understand redshirting if the player needs more physical development, or if we're deep at that position, but why did we not see more need at some positions like wr and dt and start those guys if they could help us? I understand that some think it takes time to develop a dt, but a lot of teams seem to like their true freshman receivers enough to start them.

This is all giving ultraconservatism a bad name.

Have we ever practiced stopping a fake punt or onside kick under Mac? I guess if we worked on executing plays like that, we could also get some practice stopping them.

This game is beyond being explained by karma, as fearsome as karma is to those of us from the 60's.

I disagree. Bring in jucos for positions of need. That seems like every position but running back right now, but I think it's actually the same positions that are difficult for almost everyone; QB, DB, and DT.

Official Southern Miss Game Score Prediction Thread

I think we win, if only to confirm my theory that those receiving the ill effects of negative emotions are just convenient targets. Not to mention the need to keep people with usernames that conjure up Mattress Mac and Darrell Dickey from showing up. If in fact we do win, someone on here will try to analyze how USM got so bad so fast in terms of them having no real football tradition. Brett Favre will create an account using a double secret identity and hate on us for 3 or 4 days. -
One thing that I have observed, from having several of my immediate and extended family members undergoing major and ongoing health issues over the past year is that stress sucks. I kind of wonder if that may be some of what he's going through, not that people excuse job performance issues because of it. One thing which was fairly obvious from watching the game on TV last week was that the much discussed lack of conditioning was taking its toll. You can't overcome that kind of problem mid season. I hope we see Dajon at QB for a long time, but the off season, off field work is needed.

McCarney’s candid remarks about the situation at UNT
eulessismore replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm still thinking that we just got blown out in every aspect of the game by a team of which serious people were writing last year might go out of existence. How the hell do you sell that to recruits? -
Well, that confirms what many have been saying here for quite some time.

I was at a family wedding, so didn't see any of it, but it looks like from the play-by-play that Dunbar caught all 4 of the passes thrown his way for 48 yards, and contributed to the win. I had been wondering before the season started if he wouldn't end up contributing more receiving than anything else, and it appears that may be the case. I'm proud of that young man.

I was just watching this game at the Bottlecap Alley in Grapevine and thinking "is this the place people were saying might have to give up football any year now and they play that much better than us"? I think it is a reasonable question to ask what they have that we don't.

This. Plus, the coaching staff coming to a decision about who starts at QB no later than the end of spring practice.

Official UAB Game Score Prediction Thread

Dang, that was what I was going to predict (guess, whatever), so, what he said. One thing we don't have this time is the dreaded bye week curse, so I think our offense finds a second gear early enough for it to matter this time.
