  1. Interesting how that bio mentions an impressive turnaround as DC, but doesn't mention the "turnaround" in his year as head coach at Southern Miss. Still, it makes you wonder about people who make these decisions, that USM hired him after a history of losing seasons at FCS programs. Like "hey, those were tough places to win".
  2. From hc Bill Clark: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/11959176/uab-blazers-coach-bill-clark-fears-football-program-shut-down
  3. Just wow. So amazing that they had so much more going for them on the field this year than we did given that situation. Can we replace our athletic director and entire fb coaching staff, except Tommy Perry, with theirs?
  4. +1. +10,000 if I could.
  5. Well, I'm convinced that Canales must go, but am just not convinced that Mac knows what it takes in this era. I've read plenty as to why people at schools where Chico coached were dissatisfied with his playcalling, but I've also read a lot from Iowa State fans about the style of offense typical of McCarney teams that makes me wonder if they're correct; that he needs someone he can trust sufficiently to just turn over the whole offensive part of the team to him, including signing and developing players who can make a modern passing game happen. So, I would like to see him and RV have a real conversation as to what it will take to develop an offensive powerhouse, if that's what it takes to win the CUSA championship. Apparently, it takes scoring a lot of points on offense, but as Dan said, "why not conference championships". If winning said conference championship can be done with the current quarterbacks we have on the roster, fine. I haven't seen the numbers to suggest that is the case. But I have serious reservations as to what kind of offensive coordinator we can hire if the head coach has already decided who will be the quarterback for next season. There are really no excuses left for Canales, but if we go another year with no better passing game than we have had this year, there will be no excuses left for Mac or RV. Just my opinion.
  6. I've got to tell you, it's kind of hard to get excited about a team that struggles so hard to put up points after seeing these basketball like scores CUSA teams have been putting up the last couple of days. We struggle so hard to get 7 points when our offense is given the ball with great field position by special teams play that you just wonder why our coaches don't seem to notice that is a problem. What are the most points we've scored this year against a team that wasn't SMU or Nicholls State?
  7. To quote NT03, "( o )( o ) or GTFO".
  8. Where was the game plan?
  9. It took people making real money 11 games and 58 minutes to get us to where it mattered (or seemed to at the time).
  10. Well, we've played more and struggled more against another couple of recent Florida football startups who are in the same conference with us. When we were struggling against them, they did have one consistent advantage over us; better coaching.
  11. If any of this is true, I guess we won't read about soccer violence again.
  12. Well, although he is a flawed individual (but aren't we all), they appear to have made a good hire at head coach.
  13. Neither God or Zac Whitfield were that large a factor in today's game, more a lack of game planning and preparation by some of the coaches.
  14. We had a good special teams thing going in the first half, but you can't rely on one aspect of the game to make up for the shortcomings on offense and defense. At the end, defense, then offense, then special teams each had a chance, but just couldn't make it count.
  15. For head coach. I don't know how qualified he is or how he would do, but you got to love that enthusiasm.
  16. I honestly think a lot of us should show up, and just enjoy watching some good high school football. I don't make it to all that many Euless Trinity games, but love it when I do. Trinity vs. Allen always gets the fans for both sides stirred up. By the way, Coach Lineweaver would love to see UNT doing well, and I recall fondly his wish that one of his late qualifiers from last year could play "just up the road" in Denton.
  17. I'd like to give a big shout out to the driver of the UNT equipment truck that I saw pulled over at a rest stop on the way back from the UTEP game a couple of weeks ago Sunday. He/She, whoever, was doing a good job having it parked there while I was seeing a lot of other 18 wheelers swerving all over the lane in the wind in advance of the winter storm that hit that part of the state. If anybody thinks driving one of those trucks isn't challenging, try it during one of those West Texas winter storms.
  18. Ah, that will be a full house. They can call the attendance whatever, or not. Packed
  19. That's Southern Mississippi Methodist.
  20. Ok, I think you may have posted this (at least somewhat) in jest, but now I've done some research, and I think it can be done. Some of the stuff I saw us doing today reminded me of the old single wing football that was played back in my old home town of Wichita Falls, where Joe Golding coached it at "the Old High" with great success. Of course there's a forum out there for guys who coach the single wing, and here's a thread from a guy about using an "Iowa" formation. This one even incorporates some passing, and honestly, for the greatest success with a single wing program, it helps to be able to pass when you need to. Enough; here's the link: http://forums.delphiforums.com/singlewing/messages?msg=15366.1
  21. +1 I was sitting in the stands today thinking EXACTLY that! Only thing that makes sense with no QB.
  22. No, please. He wants to play OT, the coaches told him that's where he will play. I'm pretty sure he is a Polynesian; I'm going to ask my neighbor about him. My neighbor is a Tongan ex Euless Trinity LB. He thinks that the local Polynesian community is starting to like UNT. With guys like this Jordan Murray, and with Tuaalo starting to get playing time next year, you guys will be pleasantly surprised with their performance. In a way, I was talking about this years ago, but thinking we'd need to recruit players like this from Trinity. Now there are schools all over the area with players like this who can contribute to our program in a BIG way. Watch and learn.
  23. Or maybe to increase the pool of potential candidates? Not really cynical; I think many would question whether we've conducted sufficiently thorough searches for coaches.
  24. I hope to look back and wish he'd stayed for his senior year instead of opting for the NFL draft after playing lights out for the next two years.
