  1. The idea of a sombrero just seems like "hey, tried to come up with an idea". I guess I'd be willing to make some sort of conciliatory gesture in exchange for them never bringing that "marching band" to Denton again. Yes, I'm serious.
  2. If Brint Ryan can rehabilitate the old Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, he can rehabilitate the old AD in Denton.
  3. Whenever I think of Lee Jackson, Rick Villarreal, Tony Benford, and Mike Peterson, I just wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder. I then think of Neal Smatrask and I can still smile.
  4. The only thing I can think of stranger than the topic of this thread is that I started to think about some way I could talk my wife, who doesn't like watching live basketball anyway, into attending this thing. I mean, when she lived in Raleigh, she was in a situation to be comped tickets to UNC home basketball games at Dean Smith Arena, or whatever they called it, and didn't care for it. I've risen to meet several other challenges recently which nobody expected me to handle, so maybe that's led me to think, "hey, I can talk her into this because...".
  5. I think my favorite repeat class, surprisingly to me, was business stats, which I took as grad student because there was no stat class then for a geography student such as myself. When j. B. Spalding came into that class and got out the playing cards first thing, I knew I would learn from him. I used to see him on the sidelines next to corky Nelson, helping out with in game analysis.
  6. I don't know why you'd say that; many freshmen have started against us and done well. And I'd say that at defensive tackle, we're in definite need of newcomers in the rotation, whether or not they start. I wouldn't mind seeing a lot of quality playing time out of Tuaalo, a redshirt freshman.
  7. Y'all will have to start getting used to the Polynesian culture. Around my neighborhood, Tongan guys wear a variety of skirts, and nobody says anything about it.
  8. Yep, what a program I know about needs to be.
  9. I sure hope that your suspicions turn out to be true. And it's hard to think there won't be a way to make it happen. Did anyone notice that during this recruiting cycle that we were operating much more like the big boys. Hey, it's not like we were sitting around unprepared when someone got flipped, or gave up on someone too early, the recruiting just continued. And I'm like Harry, hey I want him here; but I am still very happy that we got the late pickups that we did, especially Harrison, Young and Murray. My guess is, that if the coaches are working on some way to get him here, we won't hear any more about it until they have every detail ironed out.
  10. My theory: our coaches did not know that they would flip Young and get Murray back until after Cain left without a commitment. They knew they needed more at the DT position, especially after the news of Dutton giving up football, and they already knew they wanted Murray, so took them at the first opportunity, thus leaving us with no scholarship for Cain when he was ready to commit (today).
  11. Well, I guess that answers the basic question, but the whole thing seems a bit odd. It makes me wonder if he wasn't brought in on a visit to hedge against someone else getting flipped late. Otherwise, just bring someone in to visit just to...have them visit?
  12. I find the whole Peterson thing puzzling. He seemed to have a good coaching history, and a team that was just 1 win away from at least breaking even that season, with good, even outstanding players coming back. The good players started leaving for whatever reason. I just wonder if this place isn't a good fit for him; he seems to have a background in religion studies, and a history of teaching at smaller private schools. I have doubts about RV hiring someone he described at the introductory presser as "a friend". Those seem a bit difficult to deal with if it turns out they're not a good fit.
  13. To me, that's the most confusing part of this thread. There is some disagreement about this, and BillySee58 walked it back, but I'm still trying to figure out (1.) Does one who signs a LOI and doesn't enroll count against your 25, and (2.) if he doesn't, does that add to your next years 25, or allow you to use it for a walk on for the year the LOI was signed (since obviously it's hard finding guys you want who haven't signed by some point).
  14. I have great respect for those who have done this kind of thing for GMG in the past, but Billy has taken it to the next level, well beyond what any of the rest us would have expected. I seriously expect to be reading about his nationally ranked scouting service after he graduates. One question though: has our coaching staff been looking to him for guidance on current recruiting trends?
  15. I guess I don't get what your "smh" is about here. Is smh the new "lol"; thrown out there when one has nothing much to say and says it?
  16. Yes, it is weird, no matter how many question marks you put after it. Are you not seeing that the game has changed, and for once, our coaching staff is staying up with the times, and is maybe well ahead of the curve? Look at us as public school kids, who need to get over any hurt feelings before they get in our way.
  17. Considering the problems we've had keeping the our DT's committed and healthy (see latest news re Dutton Watson), I'm excited about someone we can call good at the position. Welcome aboard, Roderick!
  18. I've said it before; KP seems like someone who gives us 100%, and his recruiting work this year has just been relentless, and very successful. I was talking last week with a fellow season ticket holder from Euless, and she was mentioning how excited she was the way this recruiting class is looking. I'm sure she's pretty close to ecstatic at this point. I know I am.
  19. Well, I'd love for us to get this guy in to compete for time in the DL rotation, but this all seems curiouser than ever. If there's one thing I'd like to see come out of all the flipping going on this year it would be for our guys to stick with us once they've signed, and give us their best effort. Whatever happens before then is all just water under the bridge.
  20. Well, I might as well say it, Demetrius rocks a green jersey.
  21. Are we ready for them Mississippi boys? Hell we've been getting ready longer than almost anybody has ever lived. They've got the Delta Blues and Mississippi John Hurt; we've got Deep Ellum and Blind Lemon Jefferson. Even folks on this forum can spell Mississippi. Anybody ever hear of a tractor driver out of Mississippi named Charlie Pride? He came to Texas to make it big.
  22. I think it might have something more to do with the SFA "Lumberjacks" and what a lumberjack does (other than "sleep all night, work all day, put on women's clothing, and hang around in bars"). Speadking of lumberjacks, I just thought I'd throw in, that due to having been around forestry work some, I do know that the SFA forestry program sends its graduates all over the country; it's one of the best schools for that field, anywhere.
  23. I feel confident about what KP is doing, whether he's coaching on the sideline or out on the recruiting trail. He seems to give 100%.
  24. I never thought you were the typical Deniaite, uh Denian, oh hell, whatever you people are calling yourselves these days.
