UNT 2015 Spring game in review
eulessismore replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
One thing I would like to see would be a comparison of the ypc for running backs when the different qb's were in there. DW just seems to be more deceptive with the fake handoff than the others, and that seems to loosen up the defense a little. -
UNT 2015 Spring game in review
eulessismore replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I went for the second half of the game and loved some of what I saw, especially Dajon, Tee Goree, and Willy Ivery. Agree with the vastly upgraded receiver corps. I If Dajon isn't #1, I sure don't understand why he isn't #2. -
WKU suspends swimming & diving for 5 years

This being "sung to"...this could be horrible punishment to anyone who has ever attended any class at the UNT College of Music, if the "singer" wasn't up to...well, you get the picture. -
DRC: UNT tennis standout Bardabush may have modeling future
eulessismore replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Ok, for one thing, I like picture #5 the best (notice that it was the first (of 5) to be shown in the slide show. And the other thing, Brett was successful in diverting our attention from the "two deep" story, which he figured we were tired of before we read it. Which I think is commendable for "burying the lead". -
Well, I have to say that the announcement of the top 2 at qb kind of sucked the air of the room. I hope that something actually clicked for those guys that I can't remember seeing in either of them in any game last year (and I attended all the home games). I guess this could go some way to explain the emphasis on the short passing game that has been mentioned.

The concern that I have is how long our coaches take to notice the guys who are playing well in practice and not well in games.

241-287, so do the numbers. Then, do the numbers for the last 7 years. -

Kevin Patrick inducted into Miami Hall of Fame
eulessismore replied to GreenBat's topic in Mean Green Football
I wouldn't mind seeing Coach Patrick as UNT head football coach at some point. The guy always seems to always be coaching up his guys on the sidelines, and really hit the recruiting trail hard this time around. -
My theory is that he had lost the ability to connect with the young student athlete. I hate to say it after just having turned 68, but some things don't necessarily improve with age.

MGB breaking news -- UNT set to hire Mitchell
eulessismore replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
That's the best laugh I've had for a while, so thanks. I wouldn't even mind if she made Peterson's speech, about going places where things were broken and fixing them. -
I don't necessarily "support" the decision, but prefer to give the benefit of the doubt. For one thing, not everyone takes the expected party line on every position. And I felt that Abbott, though I didn't vote for him, made an encouraging comment about UNT and our strivings to attain tier one status. What does it hurt to let someone talk, hear what they have to say, and then pass judgment?

My concern, my fellow liberals, is that we could become "illiberal" by being too resistant to hearing multiple points of view. Isn't that what a "liberal education" is about, to some extent? Some of my favorite memories at old North Texas were of arguing with those of differing opinions, and then, all of us realizing at the end (some of this sitting around Jim's café, if anyone remembers that) that we really enjoyed the give and take. Too old fashioned?

'15 JUCO LB Demetrius Cain (Mississippi)
eulessismore replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
So, to get back to the important question. Now that we're down to 85 scholly players, does it require that one more leave before summer camp to get one open spot (where he could play for us in the fall), or would we still be at 25 total allowed for the year, in any imaginable scenario? -
I miss playing those goat loving dudes in football every year.

MGB breaking news -- Petersen out at UNT
eulessismore replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I'm actually excited that a meaningful personnel decision was made by the Athletic Department, even if it's just addition by subtraction at this point. And I hope that President Smatresk is involved in the hiring decision. I think he did well with the MBB hire at UNLV. And yes, that was an assistant who was an alumni. -
Meanwhile....Back At 90 Feet of Heat II Fieldhouse..
eulessismore replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Well, me too. Time (again) to realize how wrong I can be. And, didn't Smatresk have something to do with a successful hire in the MBB program at UNLV? I mean, having RV as AD can't serve as our only excuse for not recognizing abject failure and trying something. If nothing else, the "competitive" part of his official bio should be removed. -

Alright, I can finally quit reading, now that I have experienced the best use of the ellipsis in a short answer, EVER, by UNT90. Next I'll figure out how to multiquote.- 107 replies

'15 JUCO LB Demetrius Cain (Mississippi)
eulessismore replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Thanks, although I still don't quite understand how oversigning (and spots becoming available after signing day) works, unless there's some way that a player can "uncommit" early enough not to count towards the 25. The whole thing reminds me of photography, how one must know the rules well so as to break them properly. -
'15 JUCO LB Demetrius Cain (Mississippi)
eulessismore replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Ok, I don't understand the bolded part; not to say that NCAA rules are a place to look for logic, but I can understand the "undersigned the year prior" (the logic that is; I'm not saying I know or understand any rule to that effect). My question, if anyone can answer it, is: what circumstances would enable us to sign more than 25 (and thus, at least theoretically, if it has not already happened) sign Demetrius Cain? Have one of those who did sign not enroll by some certain date? -
Mean Green Nation Lost a Great Fan...
eulessismore replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
For sure brilliant. The "in depth appreciation of cheap red wines" will be used somewhere. I only wish I had met the man, but if someone were to create some special "Mean Green Club special scholarship fund in his name" to commemorate him, I'd kick in $100. -

If McCarney wins less than 5 games, Mike Peterson should be fired.
