  1. I'm really happy be related by marriage to the Lowman family from Des Moines, due to my stepson having married their daughter. It's always fun talking to her father, Dennis the Dentist, a big Hawkeye fan who has played golf with Hayden Fry, and has a lot of respect for what Dan McCarney did at Iowa State ("it's amazing what he was able to do there, especially going down to Texas and recruiting all those players"). His wife, Nancy, informed me she had taught Dan McCarney high school English. I asked her if McCarney was a nice guy and she said "oh no".
  2. I hate to admit it, but that was one of the few things I enjoyed about the SMU game.
  3. This thread has done immeasurable good. After promising $.95, getting turned back from a flooded Highway 377 on my way to the game by halftime, and watching a game never to be remembered, I will always remember standing somewhere in Apogee with OldGuyStudent, him showing me his handful of change (the guy actually has pretty big hands), and us looking around for TheTastyGreek to unburden ourselves of coin. Actually, my wife threw in another $.30. Somewhere along this road, that total of $1.25 will get to the right place. Hell, I got so happy just thinking about it last week that I went online and donated $25 to the North Texas Food Bank two minutes before midnight of North Texas Giving Day, or whatever they call it. You know, that event brought in something like $33 mil? And local charities kicked in an additional 8%. Folks, Tasty is on to something. This will work, even if the Athletic Department doesn't.
  4. I heard from my Baylor alum coworker that Baylor self reported and the 2 coaches were suspended a game or two. It that's the worst a coach from Baylor has ever done, just call him "high character", bring him in as head coach and tell him he has to call his own plays the first year. Hey, the Stephenville connection; isn't that what's hot lately?
  5. Well, you are exactly right. However, in the situation where we now find ourselves, I don't think it would be hating on McNulty to want the coaches to send another quarterback in there once in a while with a designed play or series just to be trying...something...different. It looks like we may give up a lot of points on defense this year, so we need to figure out some way to score more.
  6. I'm just wondering if Damarcus Smith is listed as no. 3 because the coaches have come to the same conclusion as some of us; that this year is going to be a real beating, and why lose one of his 2 years of eligibility for the possibility of a couple more wins in what may otherwise (optimistically) be a 2 win season? I know I'm getting my tin foil hat a little bent, but does anyone else consider this a possibility? And I don't know if Smith has enough eligibility to spend more than this year and next with this program. Just wondering in a way, because watching him and Greer play pitch and catch, I was still seeing a strange behavior to the balls Greer was throwing, not quite the end over end of some of his game throws last year, but just a different look from the spiral we've always expected to see in a well thrown pass.
  7. I disconnected my old landline phone last week to work on my wifi network, got it get it connected back up so as to get those robocalls during the upcoming political season. My mother-in-law won't call either of us on our cell phones. And why should she? Harry, unplug that thing and save yourself the rejection.
  8. I don't think McNulty was anywhere near the cause of losing this game, and I admired how he did his part today. I do blame the coaches for what I consider a mistaken belief by our coaching staff that we can win consistently without putting up a lot of points on offense. These days, it just isn't that unusual for teams like Marshall and Western Kentucky of the world to score 2 or 3 times the points that we do on a fairly regular basis. I really think the game today wasn't as close as the final score indicated. I think a big problem for us at this point is the attrition in the secondary we've experienced, but if our offense could have scored some in the second and third quarters, it could have helped our defense some. I just think we're going to have to acquire some swagger on offense, and we need to figure out whether we'll make enough progress with having the same quarterback in the game for every play. Short version, score more points!
  9. I didn't click on any of the search results, so I think I'll be ok.
  10. Well, on the elevator at work this week (not trying to steal your thunder Quoner, but...) I dropped a dime (on the floor, not to the Dallas policeman next to me). I tried to pick it up, then dropped it again, so I figure, what the hell, that's $.20 for the cause. Then I got to the vending machine, with all the quarters I had taken for "using the correct change" for a soft drink. Turned out it wouldn't take quarters, had to use 2 dollar bills, then got $.75 back. So, with the dime dropped twice, and the unexpected change from the vending machine, I'm pledging $.95. Why all this generosity you ask? Well, the wife came back over to where I was watching Channel 13, and she had responded to the "North Texas Giving Day" or whatever they call it, by donating $25 each to Channel 13 and the North Texas Food Bank, so I figured, I'd go ahead and make my pledge tonight. And, in a way, isn't this a North Texas food bank? I like to think so.
  11. I'm really not too much into whether it's conspiracy, coincidence, or what, so much as I am concerned that we are into our 3rd reputed hotshot juco quarterback who doesn't seem to figure in the plans of the coaches, and we're honestly losing the interest of some very long time, serious supporters. Believe me, I'd like to think better of Mac and Chico, but am like others who are just losing hope. I guess one of the things that has led me to wonder about this whole thing was in one Alabama game, where, after nothing happened all game offensively, Osborn was put in, got us to the red zone, where he was immediately pulled in favor of McNulty, who then got us nowhere to close out the game. Sure, garbage time, but recently, no backups even get that. What would it have hurt for one of the backups to come in for the last series at SMU last week?
  12. I have been thinking about how disturbing that is at the school that pioneered collegiate jazz education.
  13. I feel your pain. So pessimistic that I'm ecstatic when proven wrong. Although a conspiracy theory would be much more comforting than "what if this is as good as it gets"?
  14. You know, the Monday night coaches show provided the key element in any conspiracy. The cover up; always the largest and most obvious part of the conspiracy.
  15. I love ya man, but I cringe to think what it would take for him to get on the field this year.
  16. Ok, that's what bothers me, and I've been thinking of this today; our players who I have seen be successful here, Lance Dunbar and others, showed something from the get go. You don't improve by continuing to do the same things that were not successful early on.
  17. Your thoughts are good, and make sense. Someone once corrected me for trying to make sense out of things that don't, and I think that applies here.
  18. I'm pretty sure I counted 3, very well screened, before being read and answered.
  19. Heck, I don't have anything against Lil Mac. I honestly don't understand why he was anointed starter so early this year, but I don't know if any other QB on the roster could have overcome the play calling last Saturday. I'm still shaking my head about why, with our first possession starting on their 11, we couldn't have taken a shot at 6 points with a quick pass. I did hear Mac saying we should have gotten 6, but hey, didn't we all think that? I'll say I was not surprised to see him come back out for our last possession; less than 2 minutes, and down 3 scores. There's just something about this regime and the quarterback position, where I can't blame any of the young men who end up out there on the field or on the sideline, rather just wondering "what are these old men drawing good salaries thinking?" And I promise, we'll never know; it is a secret that will never be worthy of a conspiracy theory, because no one who knows will say anything.
  20. AD didn't inform the head coach?
  21. Not unless it was during a commercial break.
  22. Emmitt, sorry to hear about your loss. I have lost my mother and can second the "time heals all wounds". I appreciate your passing along the thoughts expressed by the President and his wife, which lets us know that he notices.
  23. I had tired head, and thought at first the thread title was "Carlos Harris comes to defense of McCarney". Defending McNulty I'm ok with; apparently he was following instructions.
