  1. Hey, I got some kind of autoreply when I wrote to President George W. Bush recommending we not invade Iraq, so what you got is a lot more personal!
  2. Damn, does that mean the whole rest of the season?
  3. I seriously doubt that Andrew McNulty will see any more time at quarterback here. Wasn't there something said that he had played secondary when he was in high school, or that was where he might potentially contribute at the time when he was signed? We need help back there; does anybody think he might could play some safety or nickelback?
  4. Call me crazy, but I voted yes.
  5. If he threw his hands up during a play, Tasty will love the guy.
  6. Why are you listening to Neu and Nutt? Brian Jones was great with the original Rolling Stones.
  7. When I would hear Mac say "Mean Green Football" on any radio program, I began to think it was just his way of saying his brand of football. If you look at the overall picture of his career, it's one that, ironically, succeeded when he happened to have a quarterback who could improvise. DT didn't improvise that much, but he could make the play action pass happen, which seems like something that can make an otherwise ultraconservative offense work. Really, all the frustration so many of us felt watching his brand of football seems like it was well described in the Iowa State "CycloneFanatics" football forum. It almost seemed like whoever made the hire was just wanting to go as far from a pass first offensive style of football as possible. I think opportunistic defense and special teams units creating turnovers can be another big part, but I think the first series of the SMU game this year exposed a real problem, when you get the ball in such great position, only to get 3 points after 3 straight running plays up the middle. It kinda made me think there was a strange method to his "it's ok to score on defense" mantra (i.e., we may not score much when we get the ball). I'd been off the Dan wagon for a while, but decided I would never take anything seriously again after he described himself as "extremely disappointed" with the play of Damarcus Smith following the Southern Miss game. I guess he didn't realize how classless that made him sound to some, when he himself had become such an extreme disappointment to so many. I just don't think he really had an exit door for the dog house he put some of his players in, including quarterbacks likely better than those who played more. After a while, he just seemed like a grumpy old dude carrying grudges and making excuses. Excuse me if this seems too subtle. I'm looking for someone who can get the players and fans excited, and can have several guys ready to go at any position at any given time.
  8. They went 0-8 under their previous coach, and 3-1 under his replacement, Barnum, so maybe it is all coaching, but they dominated us on both sides of the line early on, and at least their quarterback could take advantage of a short field. If we have more talent, Saturday did not prove it. Anyway, I have to develop a theory (conspiracy or not) about things, which my latest one is that Smatresk told RV to tell Mac to get someone in at quarterback who could get the job done, Mac refused to make any change, and once the starting lineup was announced, the firing was assured.
  9. I was never excited about the hire to begin with, but I can see your point on the lack of confidence; all part of a process, that in hindsight, resulted in a bad hire. But the poor hire was nowhere near the level of stupidity as the contract extension, for which no one credits anyone but RV. As I recall, that was described as a way of letting recruits know that the coach who had recruited them would be there to coach them. How has that worked out?
  10. What was Mac's lifetime winning percentage before he came here, about the same as when he left? Just saying.
  11. Rick, you work for government as I do, so you must know some of the definitions of a consultant: "Somebody who uses your information to tell you what you already knew". "Somebody with a briefcase who spends the night in your office". "somebody from more than 50 miles away". Maybe it was just a CYA exercise.
  12. Honestly, he didn't do any coaching this year. About the only remaining question is will he be man enough to go out and find enough work to mitigate some of it. Sorry, I've come to the same conclusion about McCarney as people from Iowa have expressed about him. Never much for learning anything. Anyway, good riddance.
  13. Well, at the risk of putting anyone into a deeper funk, as I look at the Portland State roster, I think they may have more talent. They've certainly gone all over the place to get it, from Virginia to Australia, and seem to be doing what we need to, tapping into the pool of Polynesian talent that is out there. Check it out: http://www.goviks.com/roster.aspx?path=football Also from their athletic department website, story on yesterday's game: http://www.goviks.com/news/2015/10/10/FB_1010150410.aspx And of course we got outcoached from the minute McNulty was named our starter (Mac having expressed "extreme disappointment with Smith the Monday after Southern Miss); none of the coaches were doing any noticeable sideline coaching.
  14. Kinda sad how much applause that got.
  15. It would be tough for us to beat them, but at least we shouldn't have to wonder why no highly regarded transfer quarterback can ever see the field here. And our previous numbers 1 and 2 couldn't translate their success in practice to game time, so am looking forward to the relatively unpracticed number 3.
  16. So, someone who can mix a drink and serve it?
  17. Name Smith your starter for Thursday night. Do it tonight, and the earlier the better. You don't have anybody else, and maybe he could keep our defense off the field longer than the others. We need something to give us hope for the rest of this season, and continuing with number 1 and 2 from last night gains you nothing.
  18. It was at least an overnight urban legend.
  19. You need to get out more.
  20. Harry has a post somewhere quoting Mac himself (or showing him in a video, whatever), saying that Eric Capper and Hank Dickensen came to the locker room and summoned him to RV's office, where the firing occurred.
  21. That might only show who's the best practice quarterback.
  22. Wow, what a concept. We've had as many as 9 scholly quarterbacks at some point during the last year, and haven't figured out how to make any one of them a threat.
  23. Maybe a pirate up in the Palouse were thinking the same thing earlier this season.
  24. We hope to be looking back on another one of those debacles, and soon. Holdover for you is fashion du jour for us.
