  1. Uh, we're not the worst right now. I watched the last of the white uniforms exit the field, feeling some satisfaction in them knowing that THEY have overtaken us in that dubious honor.
  2. Thank you Tony, and thank you Troy!
  3. My neighbor Alex and I had such a great time at this, all in all, most excellent game. I really feel bad that I can't remember the name of the fellow from Tony's tailgate who provided us the tickets, but it really helped us; nice seats! And by the way, Alex was texting like crazy as we started to turn this thing around, so the local Tongan community is well aware we won one tonight!
  4. What's Portland State? Portland is a city; Oregon is a State.
  5. Tony's been good lately. I'll go with his prediction. Their starting qb looked good against La Tech earlier, but I think we all have memories of another quarterback who did that last year. He didn't do much in his next game against Southern Miss. This San Antonio team can be beaten, even by us.
  6. You have a better idea? Well, maybe this explains why the we so often didn't seem to have a game plan. Mac hadn't gotten the programs printed up and handed out in time to do the "etc".
  7. Hey thanks, it wasn't really a question looking for an answer, just a cry in the wilderness.
  8. I'm planning to bring my neighbor for the first time this year, so maybe 6,001.
  9. Why has this been so hard to understand?
  10. Do you think there's any chance we could hire their AD from them to hire our next football HC?
  11. I was at UNT during the Blakely era, and, unfortunately, didn't get interested in North Texas Sports again until the Todd Dodge hire. Despite the oceans of difference between those 2 in terms of results, they each brought excitement and fans . What did they both bring? A strategy to win by outscoring the opponent. Yeah, we don't need someone to bring special teams and defense failures like Dodge, but one thing I'd like to see in the next HC is someone who can bring a modern offense and the potential to put up big scores, compared to the inevitable boredom and frustration of anything similar to Coach Mac small ball.
  12. Well, looks aren't everything.
  13. Well, if you go from third string one week to first string the next, in game 6 of a season as bad as any of us remember, what do you really expect? Maybe that the coaches were secretly spending a lot of time getting him practice reps during the week to get him up to speed while publicly throwing him under the bus at every opportunity? Or that the receivers were being coached on how to catch a ball with any zip on it? Neg on??? What is your point, really?
  14. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story. And folks, if you don't understand the importance of a narrative, try having one, and then making do without one.
  15. I did love Ararat, but no Armenian heritage here, to my knowledge. My ancestors did bring the Moravians to America, and we are forever indebted to them for the nativity scene.
  16. So, you're saying we have a chance against those teams?
  17. Well, the costumes for the Halloween games are always interesting.
  18. Yes, the idea now is outscore your opponent. Defense is getting enough of a lead to where they have to pass.
  19. I'd be ok with Fritz in light of what you've just written, with this once caveat. I consider our last coaching hire to be the "safe" candidate at that time, and don't consider it to have really had sufficient upside. One thing that occurred to me after the relative success of D. Smith's first start is that people want to win, and to see an exciting offense. Although we didn't win, we were more exciting. At some point, to make real progress, we're going to have to make a home run hire. Is that Fritz?
  20. He may lead them to a 1-11 season this year. If SC is really interested in hiring him at this point, I guess they would be saying something about SMU and the perceived difficulty of winning there.
  21. Montana State was recruiting well out of Euless Trinity for a while, with the help of Denarius McGhee, who MSU recruited out of Trinity, talking transfers into going there.
  22. I always thought I'd never like anything Skip wrote or said. Now I'd take him out for a nice sandwich.
  23. Ok, this is a theory that I just subscribed to after looking him up on Wikipedia and cfbdatawarehouse (I had to figure out the years he coached at a program from Wikipedia and then look up the "points against" for the program from cfbdatawarehouse for those years. It may be that his strength is recruiting, and the most open slam against him (from the then head coach at Maryland) is in game coaching. I think he got hired in too late here to help with the recruiting cycle. So, maybe places where he lasted 2 years got the good part. I don't think we'll want to wait that long.
