It's quiet in here tonight and I think I know why
eulessismore replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, didn't they play 13 games instead of 12? Last year the B12 leaders were saying they were informed prior to the season that the lack of a playoff game wouldn't hurt their chances. Why the hell would they have believed that? Maybe that they feel those running the system to be trustworthy? -
Grammar? Something about the sentence made it less understood anymore.

Question For @FlyOnTheWall Regarding Scheduling
eulessismore replied to greenit's topic in Mean Green Football
I have no problem with playing the big boys. It's just that as many times as we've played them in recent years, I think that we should reasonably expect to be able to win, if just once in a blue moon. I mean, I'd be ok with the HFC and the AD to say absolutely nothing about such an opponent in the week leading up to such a game, if at the end of the night, our guys were on their way home with a win under their belt. There must be a way to do this; I doubt if scheduling two in one year, with one near the end of what anyone could see would be a brutal season, is the way to do it. I do appreciate what Coach Canales said after the Tennessee game, that "Damarcus just has to get better", but hell, the entire athletic department, coaching staff, and team have to get better. Houston has done it, Baylor has done it, TCU has done, Memphis has done it, Temple has done it; that is, come back from the football dead after consecutive bad HFC hires. Damn it, let's do it. -

Heck, try using this site: http://giphy.com/. Even an old fart like me could figure out how to use it. -
I'll go ahead and express my thanks for John Neely Bryan, originally of Fayetteville, Tennessee, who came to what is now Dallas, the City which as my employer has put meals on the table and a roof over my head for the last 30 years. Then, giving us an early example of what you can do with serious drinking, he ended up in the Austin State Hospital (for the insane), and is buried in a pauper's grave somewhere on the hospital grounds, exact location unknown. I figured this link from "findagrave" might be appropriate, since that has never quite been accomplished for the man, despite what is written here: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSmpid=46771573&GRid=12537499

+1, but I think you should mention the name of a certain coach who "helped" win that championship, and who "knew what it's like" to win a national championship.

I remember her blaming her time in Denton for some perceived problems she had; this was just before "converting" to some flavor of Christianity, which she left and blamed for something else soon after. Maybe she'd be a good head football coach at UNT.

Well, if we do get that bit of a break and stop you from scoring on one or more possessions, I am optimistic about the dude I've been seeing return punts for us, one Tre Johnson. And I have no idea where he came from, seems like he just started showing up some time after the departure of our previous head coach and makes opposing punt coverage units of well respected teams look like they're in a slow motion replay while being televised in live coverage. If we were smart we'd use him as a receiver; the one thing our starting quarterback can do is throw a pass that looks like a punt but travels further. If our qb could just develop a little "touch", they'd mention his hang time, and our punt return man should be able to get under it and hopefully remember to run in the same direction it's thrown towards.

What do y'all think about dino babers???
eulessismore replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not counting him out as someone we could bring in. There are numerous factors involved in the decisions about where to work. For instance, suppose he likes living and working in Texas. There are many openings for FBS head coaches, but I think we're the only one in Texas (so far). -
If Riley is truly out. My new favorite target.

I would have liked Norvell better if his team hadn't just lost 3 straight, including an "ugly" loss to the pirate up in the Palouse over the weekend. In fairness, Wazzu has been better than many had thought they would be earlier (I mean, lose to Portland State?), but Leach's teams have never been known for great defense, and Norvell is the Arizona OC. Three games left, they need 2 wins to be bowl eligible. -
Matt Rhule, the Temple coach whose team is now 8-1, with the only loss by 4 points to Notre Dame, went 2-10 and 6-6 his first 2 years. Justin Fuente, the Memphis coach, whose team is now 8-1 after not handling Navy's triple option, went 4-8 and 3-9 his first 2 years there. I know there are immediate success stories, but they're the exception, and seem like places where the recruiting hadn't fallen off before a new coach came in.

I have no information about this, but I do suspect that it is typical of some of our player dissatisfaction issues now and in the past, which are that the guys who come here want to play, and don't see the same view of the depth chart and their place on it as others do. With the way this season is going, some people will be unhappy.

Yes, he has everything I want, as long as he wants us. -
UNT Coaching Candidate Chris Thomsen
eulessismore replied to StealthEagle84's topic in Mean Green Football
Harry, I'll correct myself about University of San Diego being in the Patriot Conference, it was really the Pioneer, which has schools all over the country, but I still have to question whether FCS necessarily has lower academic requirements; the Ivy League is FCS, but I'd say it's requirements are among the highest. Other FCS conferences, such as the Colonial and the Patriot, also have some schools with highly respected academics. Whether that has anything to do with NCAA requirements, I do not know. I honestly think trying to figure out the various levels, divisions, and conferences is one of the most confusing aspects of college sports. -

JMU is definitely not DII, but FCS (also Division 1, with similar academic requirements). And I'm pretty sure that when Jim Harbaugh was coaching at the University of San Diego, his last stop before Stanford, it was also FCS (Patriot Conference, maybe, with teams scattered all over the country). Not to nitpick, but a major difference, as mentioned, in academic requirements. -
I'm ok with a coach having a dog house, but Mac seemed to have a roach motel. Once you checked in, you didn't check out. Or maybe that was the Hotel California.
