  1. Again, that is because he was a graduate student upon enrolling at Oregon: http://espn.go.com/ncf/story/_/id/12301149/fcs-all-american-vernon-adams-transfer-oregon-ducks
  2. So, for once we could maybe get the buyout when a head coach leaves?
  3. I'm sure many in Lubbock and Norman would drink to that.
  4. I think he was a grad student.
  5. Well, once when I was foolishly trying to major in music at then NTSU's fabulous music school, I was fortunate to have one of the music teachers inform me that I didn't really have the talent for that, and that I should look for another major. Within the next few days I found out about geography, and started on a career path at which I can actually earn a living, Geographic Information Systems. It might be helpful for the new coach to inform one or more of those listed as playing that position on the roster in a somewhat similar fashion, that they really don't have the talent for that at this level. I am not sure whether or not that should be done before the new coach starts making calls on high school coaches as to who they would recommend who is not already firmly committed; partly because I do not know the timing of when coaches have to observe a "silent period" of not contacting prospective student athletes (but I'm pretty sure that is sometime in December). Once those needing to be reassigned or leave the program have been informed of that, and some quarterback recruits have been signed, there could be a period of looking at the roster as to whether such actions as moving Dillman to qb, or looking at those originally signed at qb but not yet having seen the field should be given a look. I just think developing the position in whatever way needs to receive early and continuous attention by the new regime.
  6. I'm in the Doug Meacham camp after I saw them beat Baylor last night. I don't think they got where they are during the Patterson era by beating everyone else recruiting so much as recruiting good athletes and developing them into guys who could help them win.
  7. Or maybe the second interview would involve Smatresk and/or another decision maker.
  8. Harry, the original poster had no point, other than "it's so hard here", and the thread itself is obsolete. Lock time?
  9. Your schtick is your schtick, and that's the truth, but you fail to mention the various struggles of the various other programs which you find so praiseworthy at this time. And you don't really have to use so many words to say you don't think UNT has any merit, sports or otherwise. Hey, pick one of those 6 and go with it. If your message isn't tired, your writing certainly is. And with so many who have written well coming out of UNT, that's nobody's fault but your own.
  10. Well, some of that would be worth a look, for sure. It wasn't a place to look for academic cheating scandals until recently.
  11. Information please?
  12. Candidate for AD?
  13. I guess he was fired at Texas when Charlie Strong took over there. I know that assistant coaches occasionally have a hiatus after a regime change. It does kind of make me wonder what he did during 2015.
  14. That's great to hear. It's hard to believe he just showed up at these places, his units began to enjoy greater success, and he had nothing to do with it.
  15. Honestly, he seems like a level headed guy; not moving until his hs junior daughter graduates, but otherwise continually improving his situation. I cannot think of why any level headed person would want a commute from Arlington to Denton. Living in Euless, just north of Arlington, I can't think of why I would want to be on either 157 or 360 northbound on a weekday morning. Of course, if you're driving through there at 5:30 in the morning, maybe you wouldn't want to be killing the guy in the next car over, and could handle it till your remaining kids in school finish out the year.
  16. I can't wait to see what some gif maestro does with that.
  17. Hey thanks man, and the same to you, bird and all. It was great meeting you at Tony's tailgate.
  18. Well, this guy was serving as head football coach and athletic director at Stephenville High School as recently as a year ago, so maybe he could be a twofer: http://tulsahurricane.com/coaches.aspx?rc=8&path=football
  19. Who is not on scholarship now that any of us think should be? I don't know whether Tre Johnson, the return man who came on nicely in the second half of the season is on scholarship or not, but if he isn't, he should be, IMHO.
  20. I think he could turn out to be a great hire, depending on assistant coaching hires. There's no reason to think he wouldn't be able to evaluate, recruit, and develop quarterback talent, and that's been a huge problem here, to be honest.
  21. Just one letter away from...Tony Denton!
  22. EagleMBA, as so often, gets it, and manages a nice word play on "Chico" and "The Man". Well played, Sir.
  23. Seriously, thanks for the laugh. Right after we hired Dan, I was at an extended family function with a sizable Iowa contingent, including a big Hawkeye fan, Dennis, who talked of playing golf with Hayden Fry, and how amazing it was that McCarney did such a great job recruiting at a place like Iowa State, "went down to Texas and got some big time recruits". His wife Nancy was Dan's high school English teacher in Iowa City and quite unimpressed with him. I'm of a mind with Nancy at this point.
  24. Heck, he wanted to be here. I don't know what was worse with Mac, the recruiting, or the inability to retain and develop players like him.
  25. I actually thought Navy was pretty exciting when I saw them play us at Fouts under Paul Johnson. It would have even been fun to watch if it wasn't so scary seeing those big running backs coming around the corner after taking the pitch. Heck, some of these big Polynesian guys I see all over my neighborhood would be natural for an option offense.
