  1. Well, at least he's improved. I liked what I saw of his highlights, but I like that he took his last team to the state championship game more.
  2. I do like the looks of Coree, and people would be wondering "Coree, Goree?"
  3. Well, there are programs over there with some recent successes; do you have any players in mind?
  4. I think that one thing that might help would be for us as alumni to be more informative as to how UNT contributed to whatever success we claim in life; honestly, I'm glad I studied geography at UNT, even if it was at a time before the technology evolved to make it a marketable career path for GIS professionals. I'm sure that many who studied music, visual arts, and emergency planning, as dismissively as some of those standout programs have been mentioned even here on this board lately, could pass along something positive. Hell, think of what going to UNT has done to improve your life and pass along a little useful information to others who may be considering the place.
  5. Spanky, count me as part of your gang.
  6. The premise of this thread is basically this: that a guy who has just been hired and told to hire a staff and do in less than 2 months what his competition, with staff in place, has been doing for the last year and a half, almost every one of them representing a program with a more successful recent history to sell to new recruits, just happens to have been fully informed, and continues to be fully informed, of everything that he needs to know by his new supervisor, and that said supervisor also enjoys the full confidence of the chief executive of the institution, and has built a support staff that can keep said new hire and new staff out on the recruiting trail while he manages any problems that may arise among the players back in their dorm rooms and various off campus abodes, in a college town that, like so many, has temptations around every corner. I mean, has the author of this thread seen ever seen a new hire being informed as to whatever difficulties he/she may face, even by an immediate supervisor of high character? If anybody were to find anything out here, rather than speculate on the possible variations of such an asinine premise of a thread, it would probably require Vito submitting a freedom of information request to find out who has write permissions to the database containing the current roster for the football team. Short of that, it's all just speculation by many, who, having at some point taken a position with inherent risks, hoped for a glimmer of understanding by those relying on their miracle working skills, while keeping a keen eye out for the boss when the best opportunity for blame shifting comes his way.
  7. I think it did help some at the time; it was just hard to quantify, and what interest it sparked seemed to fade fast after Dodge left. I've developed a philosophy about churches and sports programs; you have to have some big fish and a lot of little fish. The big donors seem like they can make some big changes happen faster than they used to, but you have to fill the seats to generate ongoing excitement and a lasting bond between the program and the larger community.
  8. Well, interesting concept, although it hasn't worked for us yet.
  9. Well, as far as I can tell, Mason Fine's team beat Nyc Burns' team, so I like that. I think this is a great move on the part of the coaching staff, if they have the patience for him to develop physically and not be thrown out there too soon. It seems like a few players from this area, Chase Daniel for one, have done well without being all that tall, so that doesn't worry so much. I'm actually thinking right now that it's reasonable to look forward to seeing some well thrown passes compared to the last couple of years.
  10. Most unhappy looking pic of recruit I've seen.
  11. I hate that we still haven't got a promising hs qb commit yet, especially after such a lackluster recent history in that regard, but just reading what he had already said, I think he really liked Okie State.
  12. so more like just one damn thing after another?
  13. Well, dayum.
  14. Well, I checked out his bio on Wikipedia, which seems good for general information on coaches, and he did coach wide receivers for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2007-2010, so this isn't his first rodeo (with the NFL). Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Monken
  15. I think he would be a great get. I like that he was at Tech before Navarro, maybe just a strategic move to go Juco after being injured at Tech.
  16. You'll never be happy till you put somebody's eye out with that.
  17. You're rightly proud.
  18. I like the mentality the new coaching staff has; building for the future.
  19. Interesting that he was offered by Midwestern State. There are several guys that will come visit the manager in our office to talk football(he has had at least a couple of sons playing college football), and the topic of how a lot of kids want to play at Midwestern comes up. I think part of it is the upgrade in facilities that came with the Cowboys using it for their summer camp for a while, but the hc there, a WKU alum, has been running a solid program for a while. Disclaimer, I went to Midwestern for a while, but so long ago they didn't have football.
  20. English will be solid gold for UNT. The fact KP recruited him here before leaving will make us forget that he took they guy whose name I can't recall right now with him.
  21. I don't guess she could coach both teams.
  22. Any time you talk to parents of players, you get the same impression: they want their kid to be playing. That makes me think that's what the players themselves want. I have to think it's tough not playing on a team that's losing a lot.
  23. I think your first sentence describes so many of us that you should consider yourself at home. My thought it that someone whose opinion is considered to matter in college football has been impressed with him as a quarterback prospect. Most often, we have watched our passing game, and overall offensive execution, with our only coherent thought being "who else have we got?".
  24. Hey, I feel for y'all, and will say a little prayer. It's a smaller world than we sometimes think. When I told my next door neighbor, a Tongan, about us getting that whooping from Portland State, he mentioned having a cousin (last NAME Tonga, as I recall) who plays there. We're all brothers and sisters in this crazy world.
  25. Hey, his coaches talk about him in terms like "smart", "good character". I like this one. I just hope we start getting skill players like this in the rotation early on. It seems like so many receivers and even quarterbacks contribute early for other programs. Why not North Texas?
