Interesting. Colleyville Heritage, the team that Euless Trinity faces this Friday night, has a coach who attended "The Tony Franklin System Seminar" (I think Franklin had to divest his interest in the "system" under SEC rules and it is now just "The System Seminar". He implemented it at Heritage, the winningest program Trinity will face so far this year. Lineweaver took his entire coaching staff to a seminar; he says the play is so fast paced that it wears out the offense executing it, requiring rotating the entire offense frequently. Supposedly, the seminar teaches an effective screen pass, if nothing else.

Yeah, that cheerful thing can be really annyoying!

Our manager at work has a son who is a friend and former teammate of Cantly. Our manager claims that Cantly is the best prospect out of Arlington Lamar in recent times, a real stud. I enjoyed reading The Tasty Greek's interview with him after he signed and REALLY look forward to seeing him play. Along the sidelines last Saturday, he looked noticeably bigger than any of our players; a real physical looking guy. I had been hoping he'd lose his redshirt in that game, but I can understand why they may hold him out this year. When he starts getting playing time, look out!

Ways To Keep Attendance Up For The Rest Of The Season
eulessismore replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
After each losing home game, a staff member of the UNT athletic department, coach, AD, whatever, is put in a dunking booth. -
Well, Coach Lineweaver says that their style of play is designed to make the most of their talent. I have been wondering about North Texas and whether UNT coaches do the same.
-
I have not doubted that Euless Trinity COULD beat UNT and some other Division I teams. However, Coach Lineweaver at Trinity does still have faith in Dodge; I still feel that Dodge must put together a recruiting pipeline to Euless Trinity that results in more than 1 player retained from there in 2 recruiting classes. And yes, I will address that issue further at another time.

I strongly disagree with blaming the players. If I go to a Home Depot and get bad service from an employee, I consider that the fault of that employee. If every employee at every Home Depot gives bad service, the responsibility is at the highest management level of the corporation. If one player, or two or three players made bad plays or have a bad night, that's their responsibility. If every aspect of the game is bad for 5 games in a row, the problem is at the very top, and leaders should at least accept that it is their responsibility to make the changes required to make the needed improvements.

Well, I've always though being the worst was harder to define than being the best; i suppose this defines bottom anyway. And I can only pray we have reached bottom.
-
A great point; although I have and will miss some games, and DO find the games this year really hard to watch, the games I'll miss will be more for family reasons than my own disgruntlement.
-
I must agree that the players never gave up, even after all they had left to play for was pride.

Something about Tune's play now makes me think about the old Dallas quarterback (one game sensation?), Clint Longley, whose play in coming from behind to beat the Redskins was called "The triumph of the uncluttered mind". It seems like our most experienced offensive unit now gets to the red zone and starts backing up.

Hey dude, thanks for recognizing the brilliance of my avatar! And I had also been thinking about the "end zone issues" our players have at some point tonight, but couldn't put a word to it. Congrats to your wife; naming something is often the first step in dealing with it!

Build a new stadium to attract better coaching staff?
-
So, bring in a color consultant? I kinda wish I weren't color blind now, but just another career path to cross off my list.

Hey, my wife and I are more consistent attendees of Euless Trinity Football games, and do love those games! However, they don't have tailgating for high school games, and I appreciate The Tasty Greek (John, you're a most gracious host), OldGuyStudent, Gomeangreen1999, FilmerJ, and Quoner, among others, for making my wife Arlene and I feel so welcomed for our first tailgater. And, as disappointed as we all are about tonight, I will continue supporting North Texas. I still believe, as my wife does, that North Texas needs more Trinity players!

Nt Running Out Of Wr's, Would You Believe Nt
eulessismore replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Of all we have lost, I truly regret that Marcus King chose to leave, probably because he was a home boy. He was a big factor in Euless Trinity winning their first state championship in 2005; a fearless receiver in traffic and really high on coming here when he signed (he actually talked Scoggins into coming here). I do understand his stated reason for leaving; that he wanted to play. Getting injured before the start of the 2007 season was a real setback. Ironically, if he had stayed, his chances of playing would have definitely improved! -
Things I Look Forward To On Saturday
eulessismore replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
1. Winning by any margin at all. 2. No injuries. 3. Good play by whoever steps in for Joseph Miller. 4. Getting to meet more friendly North Texas fans! 5. Beautiful weather. -
Loss Of Miller Could Be Key This Weekend
eulessismore replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Sir, I pray you are correct! -
1972, under Rod Rust, 1-10, with the first win coming Nov 4 (against a then weak Cincinnati), preceded by margins of over 40 by teams like Drake and Louisville (your grandfather's Louisville). Honestly, looking at Fry's first two seasons, they weren't all that pretty, although he did take a 1-10 team to a 5-5-1 record in his first year. I was hoping Dodge wouldn't have a sophomore slump, though, since his first year was what it was.
-
You know, the same question occurred to me. One thing did just occur to me; Tulsa and Rice both have the types of offense that really exploit UNT's weaknesses. Lots of passing, with highly mobile quarterbacks. Kind of like what Dodge had going for him in high school: scoring so many points so fast that the other team had to pass almost every play and was thus easy to defend. I think the key is either getting a good pass rush; it might take longer getting secondary players who can cover well and for a long time.

Who Hasn't Played So Far This Season?
eulessismore replied to eulessismore's topic in Mean Green Football
I think even a worst disaster than what we have so far is giving up on the rest of the season. I'm only suggesting we burn someone's redshirt if that person can help be seen as helping us win. Plus, what of players who can't expect to play at their position? Matt Philips, Daniel Meager? Aren't they known for some athleticism? -
Did anyone notice that he scored what must have been our first sack of the season and was injured on the play. Things had been bad up to that point, but it seemed like afterwards, the defense completely fell apart.

Who Hasn't Played So Far This Season?
eulessismore replied to eulessismore's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, Franklin has played, but it seems like less as the season has gone along. Anyone know why? -
Well, I've thought about it, and the only thing I can think of doing is continuing with my plan of attending Euless Trinity's football games and Football Boosters Club Meetings (especially Steve Lineweaver's "Coaches Corner"). That way, I figure I can learn more about football and football players, and maybe have a more specific suggestion at some point in the future. Just trying to become more knowledgeable by being involved. Plus, I'm having a heck of a lot of fun following the Trinity program. I hope that this will lead to some way to help UNT. And, just in case any of you are wondering, Lineweaver DOES believe North Texas will become a winning program.
