Now if he could just go along with a 32 team system, that would be the best presidential intervention in college football since Teddy Roosevelt told the colleges to do something other than just run the draw play.

Nobody denied him his first amendment rights, from anything that I read, whether any of it was actually speech, or electronic communication. He communicated; otherwise nobody would have known anything. Nobody denied Mack Brown the right to act in what he considered the best interests of the University of Texas by removing him from the team. I don't see anything in the link provided by another poster as to whether he lost his scholarship for this semester or not. Nor was there mention of criminal charges against the young man. I'm sure that any athletic department of any university can find something in the language of a signing document that would cover removing someone from a program in the best interests of the school, just as a military man can be disciplined "for the good of the service". I feel that my rights of free speech would include the right to go to my place of employment and saying something racist, obscene, or threatening. I feel my employer's free speech rights (and yes, I have civil service protections) would include the right to say "you're fired". If this were happening at an institution of higher learning at this time, and I were a university official who was aware of such speech and did not take action to protect other staff and students at the school, I feel that the free speech rights of those staff and students would include asking the university administration and/or board of regents to relieve me of my duties. If one feels that their rights have been violated, one has the right to have their lawyer get in touch with the lawyer of whoever done 'em wrong. As the old Don Henley song says, "lawyers handle small details". If you think you have the right to say what you want, anywhere, any time, and suffer no consequences, try it the next time you're at the airport. If anybody thinks such speech or writing will be ignored by university officials anywhere, I just have two words for them: "Virginia Tech".

Regardless of what else I might think of Dodge, I do think he's lived up to his statement that he would deal with such things on a case-by-case basis, other than the recent drug testing, which most of us agree with in principle. However, anyone who has followed North Texas football for the period following the admission of Black athletes during the Odus Mitchell era can see that we've thrived when we've been ahead of the curve on racial progress, and suffered when racist attitudes were expressed in recent years (during the campus visit of prospective recruits including Andrew Smith). I've been in public service for most of the time since I was drafted into the Army in 1973, and I can assure anyone reading that there is no more certain career ender in the public sector (which includes UNT) than credible accusations of racism, unless it's the expressed support of unprovoked violence. I don't know has anything to do with UNT other than occasionally trolling this board to make trouble, but if anyone here responds to such outrageous ideas, it should only be to express righteous outrage.

That may have been inferred because of people wanting Don Carthel to come here.

We never have the sleepy time problems at Trinity's games. Plus, they've used a reverse on a kickoff return recently. Maybe UNT could work up to that once receiving the kickoff becomes less boring. On second thought, forget it; kickoff returns have been enough of an adventure for North Texas this year.

QUOTE(eulessismore @ Nov 5 2008, 09:01 PM) Snyder had a 14-20 record after the same number of games, with a lot of 1-AA OOC games. I wasn't talking about the end of Snyder's career, I was talking about the beginning. Check out the link; you'll have to click to go to the next time frame. I did look, and that was his record at the end also, so you're right, and you did use the emoticons. Start of Snyder's HC career at KSU

I hate to admit I thought my wife was going to fall asleep during the Troy game. If only UNT was like Euless Trinity and had a haka dance before and after each game, win or lose. Trinity doesn't lose much, though.

Oh, this is brutally funny, especially this line: If the incident is true, it's not too surprising. After all, Ryan Leaf never was very good at trying to score. Yahoo Sports take on Leaf incident.

Oh, I see what you mean. Ryan Leaf to WT A&M Story

I did expect them to finish out much better last yar after beating Texas, and it seems like this year fit the same pattern of a late season tailspin. I wonder if other programs have problems with Juco transfers showing up out of shape, especially a program like KSU, which really counts on them.

Wasn't he at or near someone's list of biggest first round (first overall pick?) draft busts? Seems like he was a disappointment on the field, and a troublemaker off.

Better that than a loaded pistol.

I think it will be very interesting to see how the Jerry Kill led NIU Huskies do against Ball State this coming Saturday. That should be a real test for both teams. I am inclined to think that Joe Novak is the one coach on Tasty's list (of coaches who got off to a horrible start) who may have actually laid a solid foundation for his successor, as well as having had some very good seasons, minus the last one at 2-10. That said, after reading Jerry Kill's bio on the NIU site (see link below), I don't think of him as someone who will leave after 1 year; too much character. And, as much as I also would love to see Sawvel come to UNT to coach at least special teams, Kill did a great job of keeping his assistants on board at SIU, as well as previous schools (Emporia State?). I do think we should view it as realistic that we could pick off an assistant or two per year the quality of Sawvel. That's my hope, anyway. Jerry Kill Bio -

Well, that's at least one part of a perfect country song. -
That's interesting, since Harrell's father was quoted in the Dallas Morning News last week (in a DMN special about Texas hs quarterbacks and their impact on the college game) as saying that Harrell had never taken a snap under center. I do think that kind of shows a little about Leach; someone I consider to be an "evil genius" of offense. I'm wondering if anyone else on the board thinks as I do, that Tech may win out, and play for the mythical national championship. Not giving them any love necessarily, just wondering.

Kickoffs and kickoff returns are both scary.

I haven't been there, but I'm thinking that the one interesting thing about Bowling Green is that Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen mentioned it in their song "Down to Seeds and Stems Again Blues" (you FORMER pot smokers out there will probably remember that one).

Channel 11 showed the "convoy" and the end zone celebration as the last item of their sports segment of the 10 o clock news last night. Maybe they would post it if enough people requested it.
-
What a lot of people don't realize is that Dodge ran the ball about as much as he passed at SLC (dare I mention that?). Of course, Tre Newton was a good back, but you have to have enough balance between pass and run to keep them honest.
-
But, it's like he said last year, the only thing that matters is winning. All I'm really disappointed about is our lack of consistent progress on special teams. There has been some improvement in ko returns, but still the one fumble hurt; giving up the big punt and kickoff returns continues to be a big problem.
-
Yeah, they only lost by 14 to Virginia Tech (ranked #20 at the time), lost by 21 to Ball State (maybe ranked 25 at the time). They were blown out 41-7 by then 11th ranked Alabama, but that's no real disgrace, as well as Bama has been doing since.
-
A tremendous thing you guys are doing for the team! By the way, I'd love to see a youtube video out of Tobe's Int return, and Dodge joining the end zone celebration that they showed on Channel 11!
