It seems only fair that when someone gives their second farewell post in a year, it should have "I'm really leaving this time" somewhere in it.

Music Selection On 4th And 21 To Go...end Of The 4th
eulessismore replied to Bundy's topic in Mean Green Football
Never mind; this reveals my recent conversion to UNT football fandom from being mostly a UNT basketball fan as an undergraduate. The first link shows the Fort Worth connection (something which a lot of quality music has). The second gives it's more recent cover, and how it became used in the World Cup, as well as American Style football. About the original "Hey Baby" About the "Hey Baby" Cover, and it becoming a football anthem. -
Music Selection On 4th And 21 To Go...end Of The 4th
eulessismore replied to Bundy's topic in Mean Green Football
I have never stayed for an entire college or high school game where "Hey, Baby" was not played. My wife asked me what "Hey Baby" has to do with football, and I didn't really have a clue. Could anyone provide some insight as to how this became such a universal part of the band repertoire at football games? -
Hey, on behalf of myself and my wife Arlen, I just wanted to say a hearty thank you to TheTastyGreek, his family and girlfriend Marleta, OldGuyStudent and his daughter Chloe, filmerj and his family, gomeangreen1999, Lazer, Quoner, and everyone else for their great hospitality towards such tailgating newbies as ourselves. Also, a big shout out to Stebo, SUMG, Smitty, and any others we met along the way. You guys are really a lot of fun to be around. Like everyone else, I wish we could have won more, or even been more competitive in our losses. Sorry I don't have any great analysis as to why we didn't do better (I still think something needs to be done about special teams; we're cheering the PAT's WAY too much). When I mentioned to Euless Trinity head coach Steve Lineweaver last year that Trinity almost never loses and that North Texas almost never wins, he said "That will Change!". He knows infinitely more football than I do, so I'll take his word for it. In the meantime, I'll see y'all here online, and at an occasional bball game.

I'll second SUMG on Tevinn Cantly, and radiogreen on Jordan Scoggins. I was disappoinated about Scoggins not stepping up this year, but when I mentioned to Lineweaver (EulessTrinity head coach) that Scoggins was seeing some playing time, he did mention the transition from playing offense (Scoggins was a TE) to defense. Maybe there's enough difference that it was a factor. Anyway, he's got 3 more years, so let's hope he realizes that potential. The manager in our office, who has a son who played with Cantly at Lamar, is well convinced that Cantly is a stud. He looks like one on the sidelines; let's hope he looks like one in the trenches.

Let's See Here...chad Rose Starts And...
eulessismore replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
I was glad to see Rose playing; we needed him. -
Is it just me, or did Vizza play a little better when he got those little breaks for Meager and Phillips to come in? Of course, late in the game, it became the Cam Montgomery show for us.

I agree that we are still lacking in the fundamentals of special teams play. Any time that a kickoff out of the endzone is likely, almost any coach will prefer it, especially a team with the problems covering kickoff returns like ours. I will commend the improvements in returning kickoffs, except for the muffed early kickoff in the end zone to which was fortunately covered by the player who muffed it. Overall, I'm still holding out hopes for improved special teams coaching.

Euless Trinity Trojans baby; 12-0, favorite to win the 5A Division I (big schools) title again. I was fortunate to see them beat Plano, maybe the second best hs team in the state last week; 42-35, on a td in the last 15 seconds. Yes, I'm in touch with OldTimer as to good players from ET. It may be crazy talk, but Steve Lineweaver, Trinity head coach, still says Todd Dodge will turn it around at North Texas!

One Way To Make The Unt-ark. State Game,

I know I've said this before, but I just love it when you talk this way! -
Talked To Rick Tonight About The Stadium
eulessismore replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, I hope there is a strategy which the relevant UNT staff have for preventing this matter from suffering the same fate as the law school legislation. I believe that would basically consist of getting it to the floor early in the session. -
North Texas Hopes To End With A Win
eulessismore replied to SilverEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't know about him, but I know his mother does, and I'm sure she appreciates the thought. -
Things are getting kinda hostile in here. I'll definitely be there for the tailgating and the game Saturday.

Once in a blue moon, I'll agree with you. This is one of those times.

Today someone smashed the windshield of my car. I looked to see if anything was missing, but the only thing I noticed was that someone had left 2 ASU-UNT tickets on the dashboard.

I liked the ultimate fighting challenge last week so much better. Yep, I'm a wimp when it comes to personally taking a beating. My slogan, "No pain, no pain"!

Only those with "toxic debt".

I'm sorry if it bothers anyone that I feel this way, but stuff like that infuriates me. It seems like the BCS is nothing but another slick move to preserve an old boys club of rank and privilege, unearned by those benefitting from it. It's interesting that USC is mentioned as the beneficiary of this. When Pete Carroll, USC head coach, heard about Obama's statement against the BCS, he said words to the effect of "I knew I voted for the right guy"! Of course this may get me a small vacation.

Is there tailgating for concerts at the Murchison?

I think this further discredits the theory, given in another thread, that our opponents are deliberately running up the score on us, because of some perceived resentment against Todd Dodge's "arrogance". It shows, to the contrary, that they're trying NOT to score after halftime. Although this may give our opponents a kinder and gentler look, and not Dodge haters, it may indicate that, as bad as things look based on the final scores, that they may actually be much worse. Not trying to point a finger at anyone, just trying to understand how things really are. A few things that are little mentioned are that (1.) nine defensive starters, I believe, graduated last year, and (2.) that Deloach was not a defensive coordinator after he left UNT for UCLA, but a special teams and secondary coach; also that his defensive unit peaked in his 3rd season at UNT . (3.) It seems that our special teams play has deteriorated compared to when we had our previous special teams coach. Maybe Tasty or someone else with a bent for statistics could figure out how we compare on special teams play at UNT to other FBS schools (meaningful special teams stats seem hard to find for me)? And (4.) In the games where we actually played competitively last year, how much of a factor was Jamario Thomas? Is our running game now enough of a consistent threat to keep defenses honest, and help establish the passing game?

Choosing Dodge Was A Bold But Risky Choice
eulessismore replied to HoustonEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
From reading the DMN article about Chase Daniel and his father last year before Missouri played in their bowl game, I got the idea that Chase Daniel's father was driving the decision making process about Chase's career. It was something like he decided that Chase Daniel was going to be a big time athlete, and that the Daniel family was doing what they thought was needed to help that along. Along with the cost of real estate in Southlake, as someone implied, that makes me skeptical as to whether (in Daniel's case anyway) "recruiting" was taking place. Just my opinion, because I've never been sufficiently affluent to consider moving to Southlake, and therefore don't know the thought process that goes on behind relocating there. I think many people have moved away from Irving because they can afford to do so, and they consider Southlake and other outlying suburbs more desirable. Perhaps football is part of the decision for many, but a variety of socioeconomic factors shouldn't be discounted. -
Two More Suggestions For A New Head Coach
eulessismore replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
It does seem like ACU is doing great this year. I doubt that I'll make it to one of their games, but am interested in seeing how they do in the remaining playoff games. Also, speaking of the Lone Star Conference, it seems like West Texas A&M is turning into kind of a coaching pipeline. Doesn't the James Madison University head coach (recent FBS powerhouse) have a WT A&M connection? -
In the big picture of things, I'm not very enthusiastic about any of these conferences or historical powerhouses. I just want a playoff system to determine the winner. If they want to start with the present 32 or 43 or however many bowl games, ok. Just give me a break about respecting the Big 10 lawyers and whoever else came up with this BCS crap.

Choosing Dodge Was A Bold But Risky Choice
eulessismore replied to HoustonEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Really I'm not defending Dodge here, but honestly, I think that teams have tried to NOT run up the score against us this year, as often as not. Or maybe that's even more damnable, teams feeling sorry for us. Wasn't MTSU playing a quarterback late in the game who didn't even have a number? And some plays a coach can't really tell a player not to make, like kickoff returns for touchdowns. I think that a more realistic theory for teams like OU is that margin of victory is part of the BCS rankings formula, therefore rewarding running up the score. -
I watched them in their last 2 bowl games, both for the MNC. They stunk.
