Well, I think Emmitt was on to something when he was saying that the administration (I'm guessing that starts with the AD and goes up to the President, if not the Chancellor) hasn't given TD all he needed to work with. Although I'm sure that's true, past administrations could have done a lot more to pave the way. Really though, it will never be enough for fans to be critical, even to the point of saying they plan to support the program LESS in the future (most of this was said without reference to economic problems, but rather to discontent with results on the field). Folks, it's true that more could be done with what we are spending, but to truly excel in our academic and athletic programs, alumni will simply have to become more supportive with time, energy, and money. Certainly there's always blame to be found, but the authorship of our university's future is something which we all have the responsibility of sharing, as students, alumni, staff, and extended family. Thank you in advance for your support, Dwayne Taylor

In that part of the country, it may be more important to remind them, "don't do meth". -
Is there another factor in the committing (mostly good to very good) and decommitting (possibly one serious disappointment) of defensive linemen in this class that hasn't been discussed in recruiting terms? Mainly, has a decision been made on the new interior DL coach, or not? If a decision (or near enough to one that it is being mentioned to prospects) has been made, could it be a recruiting tool in our favor? If not, could that be used against us by other schools, or simply leave enough doubt in the minds of prospects that they're taking a longer look at their options?

Wow, maybe simple ideas can be good.

Ok, I thought I had tired head about all the man love/hate of past, current, and switching (from other positions) UNT quarterbacks. Just a thought; is it possible maybe Riley likes it at UNT because he has a girlfriend here? I know it's kind of lame, but hey, just a thought.

Well that sounds like a good idea. I can remember watching the Tulsa game and thinking only 2 of our guys looked to have anywhere near the speed of Tulsa's players. I can still remember being amazed at the speed of Tulsa's defensive guys even as they were just substituting, late in the first half. Of course, they hadn't spent much time on the field.

Joe Morgan
eulessismore replied to Quoner's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
He was such a hero to me when I was a kid. It wasn't like he had great statistical achievements; maybe it was that he did so many things very well, that I never felt like he would disappoint. A lot of middle infielders would have a great year or two offensively, then disappear. Joe always hit well enough, or got on base well enough, and stole bases well enough, that it was easy to believe he would make something happen. It doesn't seem like today's baseball has such "complete players". Oh well, I quit following baseball completely when the Texas Rangers traded Sammy Sosa for 5 or 6 players noone has heard from since, or whose names anyone even remembers. The Rangers never seemed to understand that their job as an organization is to win baseball games, and keep playing in the fall. Guys like Joe Morgan loved playing baseball, and always tried to find ways to win. Most players now seem to think they're too good to just get on base and try to find a way to score a run. -

Sir, you are correct! Still, it's hard to quit making fun of my coworker for being involved in this game. -
That is good to know, and I hope that both Charlie and Victor will move into what might be more natural positions for them; some have said that Charlie Brown would fit better at DE; my understanding is that was what was planned for him before the start of the 2008 season, and that he was pressed into service as DT because of injuries. My guess is that Gill would move back to TE, although it sounds like he did pretty well as OT; I think it's true that both were undersized for the positions they played in 2008, and that the 2008 and 2009 recruiting classes should result in more size at OT and DT. However, it sounds like Harlan may have some speed, as well as size and power. That's why I was thinking he could play a versatile role, and could play some WR, with the possibility of sliding over to TE without a substitution. Just thinking that might cause some deception, since sending in a TE might be seen as signalling "run". Also, it sounded like our TE sets almost used the TE as an extra back (somewhat back from the line?). It sounds like he has the size to be used well in that situation; especially if he was used primarily as a blocker in high school.
-
True, True. And it sounds like besides being an alum of UNT, he has deep Texas roots.
-
Plus, with his yards per catch (25?), he could be either a WR or TE, just move him over; the change to a "heavy" set wouldn't be as predictable.

Some of those who have quit posting here were trying to figure out the APR thing when their heads exploded. -
He does sound like he'd be a great fit here, but I have doubted that we could make lateral hires from other FBS schools. Also, Okie State being in the Big 12 and getting major contributions from the likes of T. Boone Pickens, it seems like they could make it tough for us to lure coaches away from them.

Hey, it might be a step down position wise for this guy, since he's now a DC, but it would be a step up in classification, since he's now at FCS Grambling. I found him by looking under the Yahoo sports FCS defensive stats; Grambling had something like 2.9 avg per carry against them. Link to my DT coach prospect

Banquet Award Winners/recruits On Hand

I think you may be referring to a "Kelvin Jackson II" of Sugarland Hightower, who is on prospect lists for places like Alabama, but who appears to have settled on Navy. -

I found this on the killerfrogs.com site, supposedly from scout.com: "DE Christopher Knighton 6-3/240/4.8 Longview, Texas HM All-State, Texas Prep All East Texas and had a tremendous senior year at DE after moving from primarily an OG, 65-tackles, 12-sacks, 15-TFL, 1-CF, 1-FR, 3-PBU, 1-Interception." Also, he was TexasPrepInsider 2008 class 4A second team all state at DL. Here's a line to the LaTech story on Knighton. If North Texas is recruiting this guy, it must be in a very stealthy way. Wrong Delivery
eulessismore replied to EagleD's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I noticed this from the article in the DMN: "Grelle said the package, which apparently came from Pharr, Texas, and was handled by a UPS branch in McAllen on Jan. 6, wasn’t addressed to the Denton man on whose porch it landed. It carried an address in Dallas. But there was no such address in Dallas, so someone at the package delivery service decided it must be meant for a similar address in Denton, the officer said." Folks, take it from a Geographic Information Systems professional; having the right physical address is sooooo important! -
I found this about DeAndre Stewart from the SETX Sports Forum, listing him as first-team all district as a junior in 2007. DeAndre Stewart

Banquet Award Winners/recruits On Hand

As far as I know, Scoggins did not play defensively at Euless Trinity. I mentioned to Coach Lineweaver at a boosters club meeting this year that Scoggins was getting some playing time, to which Coach responded something like "maybe he's making the adjustment to defense". -

If so, would he be recruited to play tight end (I hope) rather than DT? The TE to DT conversion doesn't seem to have worked with Jordan Scoggins, but maybe it could with this guy, who knows. -

I know someone who was at the game (I won't say in what capacity, but wasn't for one side or the other). What he said varied from what was reported by the media, mainly in that: the coach for the winning team played all of his players, and that the winning side wasn't pressing after the first quarter. I find it hard to take one side or the other of the argument, maybe because in the only game in which I played in organized sports, I was sent in off the bench late in the second half (church league game; some of those are fiercely competitive), when we were being shut out, and sank 3 outside jump shots for our only points of the game. If there were some mercy rule, or other anti-competitive policy in place, maybe I wouldn't have that fond memory to look back on. I do, however, think there are a few questions which a reasonable person could ask about the game in question, and the media coverage (storm?) it generated, such as: 1. Dallas Academy is a school designed for high school students with learning disabilities, in which the boys outnumber the girls by something like six to one (the Dallas Academy girls gave up quite a bit of height to those of Covenant, and generally just didn't have the numbers of girls to choose from). Are there really that many more boys than girls with problems such as ADHD and dyslexia? I heard one expert (a neurologist) speak on that question one time. She put forth a theory that there may be as many girls as boys with ADHD, but that it might be manifested as the more "inattentive" rather than "hyperactive" variety, resulting in less overt problems for parents and teachers, and therefore, less treatment for the girls, although they may need it just as much. One point of view suggests that an ADHD individual who "goes into a shell" may be the one who should generate the most concern. 2. There's little to me that justifies the amount of media coverage this story received, other than the presidential inauguration happened on Tuesday, and had lost its "legs" as news by Wednesday, with this basketball game breaking as a national story by Thursday morning, probably due to the Dallas Morning News giving it a front page WRITEUP. So, why did this get all the online and print media attention nationally the way it did? I think that it was because the students and staff at Dallas Academy put enough of a positive spin on the story ("I'm proud of our kids for never giving up", etc) that it constituted what might be considered a feel good story, and hit the news cycle during a time when people may be looking for anything positive they can find. The "Miracle on the Hudson" ditching of the US Air flight was a wonderful story, but there wasn't that much more to be learned about it by late this week, and it had become overshadowed by the inauguration (maybe "subsumed" even, since Obama invited the pilot and his family to the inauguration). I just wonder if, considering that the current economic weakness is anticipated to continue for some time, there's something about these "feel good" stories giving them "legs", even though more significant, but more depressing news, even about sports, might be breaking at about the same time. Yes, I do think journalism students (of which I have never been one) should use this story to study something; I'm just not sure what it is, other than people are interested in sports and its parallels to character development (or the lack thereof), and that 100 to 0 probably has a certain ring to it. -
I've heard very good things about him from someone who should know, who says "the guy's a hoss!".

Hey, I'm from Wichita Falls, and started watching football with the WFHS Coyotes, an extremely successful single wing program. I never thought I'd live to see the day when the single wing was proposed as a way towards a more wide open, high scoring offensive attack! Yes, I like the idea.
