  1. I think it's been mentioned that firebreaks are something both sides of the environmental debate agree on (of course no need to work on what can be achieved when there are political points to be made). However, some of this suggests that people should be encouraged to build close to wildland that will sometimes burn no matter what. Would those making these arguments say "do whatever it takes to protect those choosing to build near sea level"?
  2. Just penalize them 15 yards for the extra point attempt. It might be fun to see if any UNT vs WKY game ever produced a PAT (1 or 2 points) that way.
  3. I was talking to a Republican at a party before Christmas who said if he was Obama, he'd demand a recount.
  4. I consider 4 wins a realistic scenario: we should be competitive against Ohio and Army in ooc; out of Ull, Arky State, and WKY, we could win 2 out of 3 (with ULL losing 2 big offensive playmakers).
  5. There are already scantily clad women at North Texas games, and everywhere else on the UNT campus. They're called students.
  6. Did anyone notice that UNT didn't lose any recruits this season because of GMG.com? Like 17 and 18 year olds were going to pay attention to us?
  7. I am shocked, SHOCKED that anyone has ever been under pressure to perform while playing for the Texas Rangers. Please inform me if they have ever won a divisional championship even. I agree with some snarky sports writer that they don't think they have to win because they're located next to Six Flags and that combination sells tickets as part of a family outing. I've been using the same joke for maybe 15 years and people still laugh at it the first 3 or 4 times they hear it: "What do the Texas Rangers Baseball Team and Michael Jackson have in common? They both wear a glove on their left hand for no apparent reason." This all makes me suspicious of whether steroids lead to winning, this revelation that someone used them while playing with the Rangers. I gave up following the Rangers after they traded Sammy Sosa for five pitchers and a pinch hitter noone has heard from since; so please someone, inform me if I'm wrong and that they've been playing well in recent years.
  8. Something I read somewhere recently, in so many words: "Belief in conspiracies is part of a natural human need to believe that someone really knows what's going on." If I REALLY believed someone knew what was going on, I could understand the need for CEO's to receive multimillion dollar golden parachutes, AFTER they've left companies being bailed out by the government.
  9. I noticed that one, and was truly impressed by Aikman for sticking with it; to me, he is still the man. Some people say he wasn't the same after his offensive line wasn't so great. I'm not enough of a scholar of the game to know if that's true, but I know the Cowboys haven't been the same since Aikman retired.
  10. Hmmm, must use sarcasm emoticon...
  11. I hear he's lost a step.
  12. Listen, around here, we proudly claim the title of "South Euless White Trash". I need to change that avatar to show a missing front tooth!
  13. Well thanks for correcting me, Tasty. And I appreciate you for defending me when I was accused of being someone else from Euless. And my apologies to you, TFLF. And as for my being able to read, I honestly felt they taught me that during my work on a B.A. (Geography, 1977), and M.S. (Interdisciplinary Studies, 1984) at North Texas. I suppose I was just too lazy to learn to use the advanced search function on the forum. And I must admit, I commented in a personal way against you, and I don't think that's really what I'm all about. Truth be told, TFLF, I had simply tired of your postings, and never found the "ignore" function to be useful, as it only screens out the original posts, not the subsequent references to them (as far as I know; please feel free to enlighten me if that's not so). Anyway, sorry to have responded negatively to someone I had perceived as being negative. I want to like you and others here on the board; I really feel there's no better way than to personally meet someone so as to more fully appreciate them; words alone seem inadequate to express all the meaning they contain. I guess I wanted to use sports as a way to "escape" from all the negativity that surrounds everything else in the discussion of current events. But anyway, Tasty did teach me that on the matter we're discussing that I was wrong. it's usually better when it's that way, because I actually am rather pessimistic. And just in case you're thinking I'm some sort of Dodge apologist to come to find you tedious, TFLF, not really. I just haven't come to accept the notion that more money won't be needed to improve our long range football coaching needs, and haven't heard how we can some up with that money real soon. Yes, I agree it's possible that we could hire somewhat to do better with the money that we have to offer (is Dickey still being compensated by us?), once they had won enough long enough, we'd have to pay them more to keep them from being hired away. Anyway, one of the few extended periods I can remember for sport to provide some enjoyment away from class or work was watching North Texas basketball during the Bill Blakeley era; yes winning makes it more fun. And I'd still like to join some of you for a basketball game sometime soon. However, I'd have a hard time getting my wife to stay the entire game when we were blowing someone out. I hope I can say that sometime about a football game. Ok, winning by a point against Ohio in our home opener would be fine; a good start for whoever ends up coaching next year. And yes, TFLF, I do read, mostly nonfiction. Currently, I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of "The Sun and The Moon, The Remarkable True Account of Hoaxers, Showmen, Dueling Jounalists, and Lunar Man Bats in Nineteenth-Century New York" by Matthew Goodman. It's about the news, fiction, and pretty much everything in between, similar to this forum in taht way. I hope you're finding interesting reading these days. And hey, if I weren't off to watch the Abraham Lincoln thing on PBS, I'd look up your website that I recall your posting something about not long ago. Now that I have learned that "advanced search function", I'll look up the topic and check out your work. I'm sure you're doing well with it.
  14. Ok, but I'm also thinking PHSCoach had some insider information, and he said there was hitting.
  15. PHSCoach, no Dodge fan, said there was tackling in practice last year. And, which of us was there at the 2-a-days? Hey, if you say fans were banned from practices or they you know what happened in them, which was it?
  16. Use "single quotes" when? "whenever"... use "air quotes" when?, Those "almost never"
  17. I'd be happy if he were simply part of what Dodge was quoted as saying recently, referring to "strong competition at every position".
  18. I "take offense" because I "lived" in Washinton "State" for two years and "several" of these "quotes" are from signs in Washington "State". I defend "my" use of quotes, but would "strongly" caution people running for political office not to use "air quotes". That's all I have to say about that!
  19. Man, I like nothing more than a good hamburger, but how does anyone get their mouth around that quadruple. I'd like to see a clip showing that. As far as professions being sexualized, we geographers have a way to go, but I do recall hearing something about a "geography mistress" on the radio yesterday. I guess a female geography teacher. I think the main problem for nurses is having to work so hard, often starting with late night shifts, that they're probably too tired for much of a personal life doing anything.
  20. I'm not sure the way it's structured that it could. Maybe Flyer could enlighten us. I think it might take a broad based fund raising campaign among us alumni to really create competitive coaching salaries.
  21. I think that Troy Franklin and Tevinn Cantly have as good a chance as anyone at DT, especially since they are now on campus and benefiting from the new strength and DT coaches. Also, I think that Kyle Russo has a legitimate shot to be starter at DE. I also consider Tyler Washington to have a good chance of beating out Penson at OLB; either that or switching between DE and OLB.
  22. I like what I've seen from Tune, admittedly, in very little playing time.
  23. Honestly, doesn't that go for just about any position on the team, except for kicker and punter?
