I think you've brought up two interesting points that I've wondered for a while if anyone would pick up on. One is that we Liberal Democrats are not always that liberal when it comes to tolerating the views and beliefs of others (not that I think Conservative Republicans are either). Another is that many Americans who call themselves Conservatives would prefer that those from certain other cultures were more liberal. Personally, I think both conservative and liberal are good words and have friends and family of both persuasions. Really though, few of them stay in either category on all issues.

Yes, I'll always cherish the time I spent at the Downtown Dallas Toastmasters: great people and a truly worthwhile organization. -

Noone paid much attention to me when I pointed that a lot of the Barnett Shale natural gas development is around Hwy 157 and Hwy 183 in Euless, which is also the location of a Pancho's mexican food establishment, and just north of the reported earthquake epicenter. So, as part owner of mineral rights in that area, I ask you to please, eat at the Euless Pancho's. -

It was just a lame attempt at a joke. -

If anything runs to the right of President Bush, that would be new! -

Actually, an old mountain range, the Ouachita Fold Belt, runs right underneath the Metroplex. As far as I know, it's been rather silent until the last year or so. We can't all be petroleum geologists (what can I expect from people who don't believe that gobal warming exists?), but the one in our office has us all convinced the early reported "earthquakes" were from "fraccing"(sp?) of the Barnett Shale. Here's a link to the Railroad Commissions Public GIS map viewer; at least you all can select to view Tarrant County, then pan and zoom around until you see the locations of all the gas wells in the area of the reported epicenter of yesterday's activity. Railroad Commission Public GIS map viewer Hey, I can be as much of a conspiracy theorist as the global warming skeptics; I don't think there will be much mention as to why this might have occurred, considering the huge amounts of money to be made from development of gas wells in this area. And I don't care; I'm glad I got a few dollars for a signing bonus (maybe they're putting in our well and I'll be a rich'un). I just consider it amusing that educated people (perhaps not in earth science) think that all of a sudden an "old fault line" (yes, millions of years is pretty old), has decided to suddenly start becoming active, coincidentally, just around areas of intensive gas well drilling. -
I've been thinking that for a while. How many sacks have we had in the last 2 years that weren't by Eddrick Gilmore? And, for whatever reasons, he missed a lot of practice and playing time both years. Let's hope whatever problems he's had won't keep him off the field, and that the others coming into the DL rotation are the real deal. I know people who aren't followers of UNT football who are high on Cantly; I think they're right, and sure hope they are!

Not if it has anything to do with Nancy Pelosi!

I was at the Euless Post Office on Ector, just north of 183; I and others in the building felt it. I think it and the other Euless/Irving earthquake were from development of gas wells in the Barnett Shale. -
Probably for the same reason that the Yahoo article about Bruce Smith's DUI arrest refers to him as "former NFL star" instead of "hotel developer". Wikipedia on Bruce Smith And, let's face it, even among us diehard Democrats, Garry Mauro is pretty much old news, unless you know something I don't. There was a feature posted on the Internet yesterday about Lane Kiffen's(sp?) search for a starting quarterback at Tennessee, which stated how important it is for their quarterback to have good character. Maybe this shows why: "ex quarterback of <place university name here> arrested for <put crime here>" just sells newspapers. Rent a copy of the old movie "Shipping News" to hear a good explanation of why controversial headlines are good for newspapers.

Interesting. I was just down in Southeast Texas vacationing at some of the state parks. When I went through Woodville, I saw all kinds of signs referring to this guy: Allan Shivers (remember the "Shivercrats"?) It seems like he did a lot of good things, especially if you're a UT alum. I still disagree with the Southern Conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, for their stand against desegregation.

You're right on target, except for that "easy" part.

I think we have hope if the transfer WR Stratford(?) is declared eligible for fall. The others, I haven't seen much of, but hope the injury to Outlaw was not serious; it sounds like he has real speed. However, I think the real thing is the running game; most people don't seem to realize how big a part of the spread offense that has been for Todd Dodge and others. I'd love to seen a brilliant senior season for Cam Montgomery. To me, he's the one solid piece of the offensive puzzle.

Is Obama in the Texas Legislature now? Sorry, even some of us Democrats can't resist throwing a little attempt at humor into the mix.

Four years of his original contract or a four year extension after winning 3-5 games next year?

Well, I'd like to think so; however, the recruit I personally think has a big future at UNT is Tyler Washington, of Cedar Hill. His defensive coach (who has left that position since): Ron Mendoza. The others I'm really high on are transfers from JUCO programs that are not in Texas. I guess I'd have to go back and look at the entire class before having any real thoughts. I just gave my initial reactions to your question. On the other hand, I actually believe we need to recruit from a larger area than what we started with in 2007, perhaps out of a sense that kids just out of HS want to see new places.

Thank you Brett; it's always hard to get the politically convinced to listen long enough to be informed that they are wrong to say that it is. One woman I met on the train, who said she was a judge, and sounded like a Republican, was letting me know once how incompetent we (at the City of Dallas) were at running the schools. I was too polite to inform her how incompetent she was at knowing the functions of local government entities. Hey, she said she was a judge; I was trying to respect her office, but it was getting hard for me to separate the office and the officeholder.

Congratulations, Derrick. You did great work! I now see most of the remaining work as something in which we can all participate: financial contributions, ticket purchases, and game attendance.
