  1. Can't get a call in? Send us a tweet!
  2. Odds are on Pete Rose getting in first.
  3. Marcus Spears or Britney Spears? Call now, it's on our nickel!
  4. Kind of apples of oranges, comparing the situations of those two coaches. We should know something about how the season goes for Dodge in less than a week; definitely within two weeks. His future depends on the performance of the team he coaches. By comparison, Phillips could win the Super Bowl and still get fired.
  5. Where in Fort Worth are you? I'm in Euless, near 157 and 183.
  6. I saw the Euless Trinity head coach, Steve Lineweaver, over at the local Home Depot this morning, and stopped to talk football for a few minutes. He said he expects Trinity to do alright after the first 3 or 4 games, "which are water moccasins". I then told him I'm always hopeful at this time of year, even for my college, North Texas, which I have hopes will do better. He said yes, they NEED to do better this year, and I do agree...with him, and the others here hoping for the success we ALL need! And, I'm sure you all know that as far as Lineweaver, I'm like so many here in Euless, in loving the man. He's so humble; as I was walking away, he said, "thanks for stopping to talk".
  7. I need to get me one of them flip phones.
  8. I had one of those; I'll be keeping a close eye on you...and him. And, as far as being absentee, it's hard for people to miss you when you're gone if you never were really there. Oh, and management has told me to respond appropriately to anyone badmouthing Cantly on this board; friend of the family thing.
  9. Honestly, I feel different, and better, than approaching the games with Oklahoma and Kansas State for the previous two years. For those two, my gut told me we were going to be outmanned and outcoached. Now, I feel like we have a D-Line and an O-Line that can play with the big boys. I think that can make a lot of difference. I at least have hope that we can pressure the opposing quarterback this time around.
  10. Is this just a newer Denton biker bar, kind of like the old "Thugs and Chugs" (otherwise known as "the Depot")? Sorry to show my age, that was an early 80's bar on Hickory street . Anyway, the one photograph, makes it look like a really attractive place.
  11. I agree that meth use is very dangerous and connected with other crimes; however, the most successful anti-meth campaign I've heard about is not law enforcement based. Free market conservatives should love this one; it's based on consumer marketing: Montana Meth Project
  12. You've segued nicely into my next argument: it's arguable that the highest percentage of marijuana use was occurring at least partly when those laws you mentioned were in effect. People just weren't being sent to prison for being caught for the first time as users, and it was a burden on the criminal justice system. Heck, even the Baptist General Convention of Texas was in favor of the changes that were made. I have heard, and don't doubt, that the same thing is going on now with meth users; the criminal justice system doesn't really want them in jail if it can be avoided, because they don't want to be responsible for their dental care. I believe (but only base this on what I observed in my contempories when I was still a student in the early 80's) that it was workplace drug testing (which I agree is legitimate) that reduced or eliminated illegal drug use by many. That and (as William Bennett noted) nagging by wives and girlfriends.
  13. Interesting; since the program to control dope is a "government program", I guess this analogy could logically be seen as the "War on Drugs" actually increasing in size as the supply of "dope" increases. No way that could happen.
  14. I'm sorry, but I don't get it. So, I guess I'm among those who do not see... I would like to nominate "Hitler vs what I think is right" as the permanent undercard in any argument.
  15. Just wondering; with all the duplicate threads getting started these days, should this one get moved to something like "The Eagles' Nest", or will someone just start another thread for this same subject on another forum, maybe on "UNT News"?
  16. Only if it's for reasons other than playing (and being presumed to beat) a FCS school. For example, playing Texas State might have rivalry potential, as we have played them more than anyone, and they seem to be on the improve. Of course, if they improve to where they want to be (FBS), we'd still be without that "1-AA" game. Another thing; we can't presume we'd beat any up and coming FCS program, such as Texas State.
  17. The ends of the political spectrum seem weirder all the time.
  18. The manager where I work asked about North Texas football today. He thinks Cantly is a tremendous football player (His son used to play with Cantly at Arlington Lamar), so I mentioned that Cantly is set on losing the weight and making the move to DE, and is expected to be part of the two deep on the defensive line. Our manager is in favor of all that I told him about Cantly, and thinks that DE is where he should be playing.
  19. Now, don't be too hard on yourself.
  20. I didn't vote one way or the other; it's like those polls where there's a clear majority one way or the other, until another question is thrown in, sending responses all other the board. There's multitudes of political forums out there, so I don't really see why it's so important to discuss every hot button issue that arises in the larger society, when, honestly folks, we have a long way to bring our school up academically and athletically, without disparaging those of varying opinions to the point they decide "to hell with these guys". What I'd like to see is two additional forums (I'll leave it to those who care whether "Non Unt" political chat or not): 1. "Other Sports" (meaning not involving UNT student athletes). 2. "The UNT Community", which could be whatever topics one wishes to discuss, but must relate to UNT in some way (regional transportation issues that in some way affect UNT, for example), and also involve the local, regional, national, or international world outside of UNT.
  21. There's a couple of things to keep in mind about that rating: 1. We're listed below Western Kentucky after beating them two consecutive years. 2. After the first game of the season, we'll know something about this team.
  22. You could do like UNTFlyer had been doing, and posting DCTA news on the UNT News Forum. I just viewed that topic on your profile; it was still there, so maybe you could just copy and paste the text of it there. I like to stay up on rail related news. As for "other" sports, I bet someone gets that figured out soon...
  23. My thought is that this is a trick question, designed to see who will post the most long winded response before having it pointed out to them that Karl Marx "was", not "is".
  24. This could explain why some of us are thinking we'll beat Ball State
