  1. One of which is not wanting to admit we have no clue what this quarterback and the offensive coaching staff are planning for his first start.
  2. Hey, let's make it clear, what with all the homoerotic talk, Nathan Tune is not gay. In fact, the character Ned Nickerson, college quarterback boyfriend in the Nancy Drew series was based on him. However, the gay communities in New York City and San Francisco do not care; they have heard the last name Tune, identified him as related to the other famous Tune Texan, the famous Boadway actor and dancer Tommy Tune of Wichita Falls, and assumed that Nathan is gay. We will now have a coast to coast fandom that has no other link to UNT other than this erroneous belief and an appreciation for jazz. My ultraliberal sister residing in San Francisco has told me over the phone that he is their biggest heartthrob since Tom Selleck. I just wish they would leave him alone and let him sling that ball.
  3. Unless Tune plays well enough in his absence that we don't fear a dropoff with either of them playing. I hate to be cynical like that, but, just saying.
  4. Good point! And do the white pants reduce the effectiveness of the white helmets?
  5. Here's an idea: do away with assigned seating for those who feel strongly one way or the other about this, and set aside a section large enough to accommodate them all. Then, bring in a drill sergeant (I'm thinking we could borrow one from the AFROTC) to arrange everyone by (1) preference of standing or sitting, then (2) by height. Everyone's happy, and feels like they've been "drilled".
  6. You can experiment: get a green shirt; look at when it's dry, get it wet and then look at it again.
  7. These injury speculations are so two years ago.
  8. Was Seneca the source for such sayings attributed to Royal as "Old Ugly is better than old nothing", and "A confused team can't play aggressively"?
  9. I'm with you, and mostly for the "taking us lightly" possibility you mentioned. If we were 2-0 instead of 1-1, it would be harder to look past us. Also, I like Tune. I think he's a guy with good character and skills. Somewhere I read about him being able to "hit the receiver in stride" well. I think that could work well with our current bunch of receivers. I kind of wonder if some of the drops were because of receivers not being used to his delivery; maybe a week of practice and they'll get accustomed to it. Also, I wonder if this weather system that's hung around here too long may be in Alabama by next weekend. To me, that kind of weather makes things more unpredictable; I like unpredictable when we're big underdogs.
  10. I'm not really sure I knew of Ohio until we scheduled them. Hate to admit it. Ok, maybe some Buckeye confusion, but I doubt it.
  11. The student side looked mostly full.
  12. Man, all this enthusiasm kind of takes some of the sting out of losing. Now, if we can channel that into more wins and less cussin'.
  13. Right; they're just the hired help, doing what they're told. When I tried to move from where they had originally told me to park, they let me know they had already gotten in trouble for letting folks park just anyplace. This was in the Orange lot, about noon, so I could understand what they were doing; filling the lot starting at the far end. They did let me move to a better spot within those parameters (so I could have the end of my van pointed to where I would be setting up my tent).
  14. Home run?
  15. I thought the same thing, but only hindsight reveals how huge 3 points would have been. Also; our kicking isn't perfect, and nothing can be certain under those conditions. I bet the coaches are putting some thought into getting more points out of good field position.
  16. Maybe just one of those "huh?" looks.
  17. Not necessarily. Of the top ten FCS schools (I think NH is 9); 4 of them have already defeated an FBS opponent, and the others came within a touchdown. Really, some of the wins by the FBS schools were kind of embarrassing, like FSU over Jacksonville state, won with 35 seconds left.
  18. Dang (nearly used that other word)! Can I still get one?
  19. I'm cool with not assuming it was the frat guys. I am wondering if alcohol might have had more to do with it than marijuana. I wish there were a rule: no glass containers of alcohol in the tailgating area. I had to move a bottle near my car; threw it out into the grassy area. I don't like to see that.
  20. I saw them headed for the entrance with their umbrellas and knew that would happen. I was hoping maybe there would be a special papal dispensation...oh well.
  21. I'm also singing the praises of hot running water! I have been thinking, since both the high school team (yes, Euless Trinity) and college team that I follow are 1-1 on the season, maybe they can both go into games without thinking they'll automatically win or lose. Yes, I know that's tough for us next week, but not impossible.
  22. Yeah, I am conflicted about it too. I'd rather be around a crowd that doesn't curse or otherwise act like jerks. On the other hand, I was hoping people on the alumni side WOULD AT LEAST STAND, if for no other reason than I wouldn't have felt obligated to sit on that wet bench (forgot to bring those stadium seats, darn it). I mean, what is so great about sitting in THAT situation. Just another of many things I don't quite get.
  23. It was great seeing the old tailgating crowd again; Tasty, oldguystudent, gomeangreen1999, Lazer, everybody's wives, girlfriends, friends, ex students, you guys were all great. Thanks for helping to make it happen for me, Arlene, and my dog Shadow. And, yeah, nice to meet Longjim. I wouldn't suggest anyone tell their cardiologists if they ate any of oldguystudent's concoction. He knows how to make cholesterol fun!
  24. I still think now what I was thinking before the game started; in this kind of weather, anything can happen. It is extremely unfortunate that one of the things that happened was Riley getting hurt. Let's be thankful it wasn't a concussion or his throwing shoulder. One thing to be positive about is that the team did not fold after Riley was hurt and Tune threw the pick 6. I disagree with those who say this is not a good team. I think it's a good team with a lot of character. Hopefully, they can continue improving as a team, even if they have to do it without their starting qb for a while. I was proud of what I saw UNT folks doing tonight. We have nothing to be ashamed of, and we have a lot to look forward to.
  25. How many more threads about the same weather system and the same football game are you going to start?
