  1. Combs got a nice cameo on Channel 11 sports at 6:00 tonight.
  2. Wow, sorry for the loss to all who knew him. I did happen to speak to his girlfriend, when I saw her wearing a jersey with his name/number on it, maybe it was at a spring game. I knew he had gone to school here in Euless, so spoke to her. I could tell she was in love with the man, and quite proud of him. Glad to see he got his UNT degree, and that he was well loved.
  3. Man, you're killing me. You probably couldn't make that up. And from "GIFSOUP", no less.
  4. Rehabbing from injury.
  5. I suggest 2 possibilities: (1.) Brett remembered how well our quarterbacks' practice performance has predicted future success. (2.) He advocates the concept of "there is no bad publicity".
  6. It was always fun to watch BB when Blakeley was coaching.
  7. Silver, I remember Billy Tubbs from his time in Denton as an assistant for Blakeley, but I think he's had his run, brilliant as it was. But Dave Bliss? Even though I have thought maybe, hell just give up basketball if we're treating it like a bad joke, there would be hell to pay in Denton for the kind of shit storms Bliss brings, minor blips though they were at Baylor and SMU. And that's just taking the narrow view. I'm no goody two shoes, but you don't have a problem with someone who, in the middle of a murder investigation involving his players, concocts a fake story of a drug dealing scheme to cover up illegal payments to them? Maybe you're joking; I hope so. And nothing against a 70 something year old, from one soon to be, just against this one. So, take your pick; evil or insane, bullet or poison: http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25141475/the-return-of-dave-bliss-to-college-coaching-shouldnt-matter-too-much http://www.star-telegram.com/news/local/community/northeast-tarrant/article99189902.html
  8. Wow, that would be insane to have Bill Blakeley back. Man, those were some times we (and he) won't see again.
  9. So, why did he leave SHSU, with such a record, to coach at a JC?
  10. It doesn't look like he did much at ASU.
  11. Yep.
  12. I used to be in the men's chorus when they did that program. I thought it was corny when we practiced it, but when i saw how much people loved it, i was all in.
  13. That chicken is still writing the equation.
  14. I was all fired up about the new Popeye's that I saw was opening between work (Train station park and ride anyway) and home. Called the wife, "Honey, something I'd like to do is pick up some PFC on the way home, they've just opened a convenient location", She, "Oh, that's a New Orleans style, too spicy for me", etc. I pull in there anyway, thinking maybe I'll get something just for me. So, turns out it's not really opening, a crew is just finishing up striping the parking lot; they signal me to leave. So, all I got is some paint on my tire tread...maybe. So, I've been thinking about this. Since we don't have a mens basketball program we'd want any football recruit to be around, where would I take a prospective UNT football player when in Denton? I'm telling you, if my old friend Dave still has the Ranchman's Cafe going, I'd take him there...which is in Ponder, mind you, not Denton. So, what would you guys do, you know, to compete with San Diego. Hey, beat Houston at recruiting? I think I could, I think I could. Why come to Denton? Abner Haynes mentioned this in the PBS special, "When We Were all Broncos"; "it's a place where if you want to be a part of things, you can, it's up to you", I'm not sure those were his exact words, but you get the idea.
  15. Saw that movie for the first time last week. So awesome!
  16. It was well worth what I paid to attend. Winning would have been nice, but hey, I served in the Army, so there's that.
  17. Well, one reason we have to have football is all the music education majors need marching band practice. Solution: have a taller radio antenna installed, so as to broadcast KNTU all the way from South Texas to North Ontario. There's a lot of people who would like some jazz to listen to, now that the OASIS is gone, and they wouldn't mind that some very expensive advertising came on every once in a while. I mean, hey, Wolfman Jack. You may ask, would our artsy-fartsy students and profs go for "renting time to Pentecostal preachers and psychics, and...taking 50 percent of the profit from anything sold by mail order"? I don't know, but once it got started, people wouldn't stop talking about it anytime soon.

  19. Sorry, but that is poor analysis. We lost because they scored in OT, and we didn't.
  20. Damn, laughed my ass off!
  21. Damn, was that Emmitt singing the national anthem? That was, if not the best, one of the 2 or 3 best renditions of that I've heard.
  22. Because (1.) there are a number of UNT alumni in the HEB school system, as well as the government and private sectors and (2.) high school football coaches feel some pressure to place their student athletes in places where they think they will have a greater likelihood of success, and for some of those, it means staying closer to home, and (3.) people who interested in area football generally, including those with kids who want to play in college, want to see UNT succeed, as it will increase the possibilities of their kids getting looks from places that are successful.
  23. Jordan Murray is Polynesian, but I am not sure whether Tongan, Samoan, Hawaiian, or some combination. Euless Trinity is known for its Tongan football players, but there are players from the other Polynesian groups there, as well as some being a mix of 2 or more. Of course we know by now that there are various Polynesian athletes at different area schools. As some may know, I have long considered it a good idea for UNT to develop a recruiting pipeline to Euless Trinity, and still do. It is true, as many have noted, that many of the outstanding student athletes from Trinity go elsewhere, but there are always some who need the options that a place like UNT can provide. I have been a student of why various immigrant groups go to different places since becoming a geography student at then North Texas State years ago, and continue that study as my work at a major city involves some study of history, geography, and immigration, and can only conclude that people need the opportunities this area and this school can provide.
  24. Hey, Euless FB coaches will like that UNT coaches are recruiting there. Believe me, there are folks in Euless who want UNT football to succeed, for a variety of reasons. And I think there are a variety of reasons we can like this get, for one thing, class 6A all state; for another, well coached at Trinity.
