  1. Simply disgusting.
  2. Are you ok with just being wrong?
  3. I thought that was a darn good pass Tune made to set up the TD!
  4. Well, Green P1, we finally get a sack, from your favorite DE, Eddrick Gilmore.
  5. I can hear Tasty somewhere saying, we're on pace to lose by 112.
  6. I was talking to our manager at work after the FAU game about our kicking problems there, and he guessed the coaches were having us angle kick.
  7. That's what looks like is carrying it Time Warner; for my area in the mid cities, that's channel 180. I don't recommend anyone watch the pregame. They were just showing clips from the Troy-FIU game, and the Troy passing game looks scary good there.
  8. I'm sure any diversion would be welcome at New Mexico. Speaking of Coach Locksley, I've just read some about him and the press conference for his hiring, where he announced (this sounds eerily familiar, and I paraphrase), "a wide open, spread offense, throwing the ball all over the place". Then he hired Darrell Dickey as offensive coordinator. So, Locksley was quite successful at Illinois (as offensive coordinator?), and was hired by an athletic director who, while AD at Bowling Green, hired a little known guy by the name of Urban Meyer. I've had real doubts about there being any real science behind hiring head coaches, but this makes the whole thing seem like voodoo.
  9. And that may not matter one way or the other.
  10. Man, you'll be ok; I just think it's tough for any of us to say much of anything these days with any level of confidence. For now, I'm ok with uncertainty, I guess.
  11. Can you send out a prayer for us, Filmerj?
  12. The only problem I have with the question is this: If Tune beat Troy, he would have to play one excellent game. I have no problem with Riley; lots of quarterbacks get hurt, most of them recover, but I think the jury is still out on whether we know all that there is to know about either ot these guys. Just my opinion; if Tune wins and doesn't get hurt, I think he should start the next game. That is all.
  13. Offensive fireworks: UNT 48, Troy 44.
  14. I really only think you lost Got5onIt, but I'm not sure you ever really had him anyway.
  15. Man, it was great just a minute ago to see Vittatoe throw his longest college td pass, 80 yds. I still remember him being a big factor in Euless Trinity winning the state championship in that 2005 game against Judson Converse. I would have loved to see him at UNT the next year. Does anyone have the inside scoop on whether he really wanted to attend UNT?
  16. I felt moved to start this as a new thread, since it seems possible that something I posted in the "Official attendance thread" was referenced in the "How cold was it thread", since I was the only mentioning a "spouse having left to go the car", and this was mentioned as a reason to ask, (I'm paraphrasing), "What does this say about the dedication of our fan base? I did feel that perhaps I (and my wife?) had taken a shot here, but was fairly convinced of it when my friend TheTastyGreek called out the starter of that thread for attacking his friend (me, my wife?). Anyway, if the above is the case, let me clarify to anyone a few things: 1. I decided not to respond to that thread because I felt the original poster lived in Houston, and probably would have had difficulty attending (as the thread title might indicate). I feel sympathy for anyone who would like to attend and cannot and also, who knows what anyone means or is personally going through? 2. I do not consider there to be a problem with the lack dedication among the fans. The 16,000 or so sitting through the monsoon of the Ohio game were sufficient in numbers and noise for the alumni to express their displeasure here at the students expressing themselves loudly and profanely at the game. 3. I do not consider there to be a problem with the "less than diehard" fans, of which I will classify myself, having left the Ohio game before we tied it to go into overtime due to poor preparation, leaving only one part of my body, which I will not mention, completely saturated, and having left the last game before the two final FAU kneeldowns in an attempt to avoid the fireworks, of which I am not a fan at all. 4. I do not consider there to be a problem with those who attend North Texas games who are not really North Texas football fans, or football fans period, such as my wife, who MAY have been referenced, in the "How cold was it thread". I told her about these exchanges tonight, and that I didn't really consider her a North Texas fan, since she went to BYU and would probably be more aware of what's happening football wise there, if she was a football fan. She said, in so many words, "No, I'm not going there to support North Texas football, I'm going to support you in your desire to support North Texas football, and to enjoy the band; it's nice to be at a place where the arts ARE supported". You see, my wife has performed in marching band in high school, and her heart's desire is to be able to support herself financially selling her paintings and drawings, and she is aware of the arts scene in Denton, by having participated (one year having a painting chosen as for the cover of the Denton Jazz Festival's brochure). Nor would I consider the guy who was sitting behind me (like me, a former Army paratrooper) Saturday night to be a "real" UNT football fan, as he described himself as having lived within walking distance of Fouts Field for over 30 years and this being the first game he attended there. His guest was a visitor he had from Germany who couldn't speak any English and was attending his very first football game anywhere (seemed to find it quite exciting). Anyway, I did feel a little sting when reading the OP of the "How cold was it" thread, but going over to that "other" forum, and reading a thread about how Michael Martin Murphey (someone described as "briefly" attending UNT in some bios), perfomed at halftime of the SMU game instead of UNT, and someone else wondered if he had something against his old school, like Don Henley (who somewhere described the North Texas English Department as "wonderful"), and how the marching band hadn't arranged their program to feature Roy Orbison, since his widow was there (maybe someone hadn't told them, and like all musical ensembles they have to practice?). I realized that if my wife had been typecast into some group of "undedicated" North Texas fans, she had been put in some pretty elite company. Anyway, I really do hope UNTLifer finds the work he needs soon, and also pray for my wife's brother, who finally found a job, which will put him in Tijuana, Mexico very shortly; a place (among other Mexican border cities) where I would personally feel unsafe. But, considering the financial problems he has been going through; maybe this will be a real break. Anyway, I'm happy to have a wife who supports me in my passions; I try to repay it by taking her to some of the great musical performances at UNT, and to support her in whatever way I can to achieve her dream of becoming a renowned artist. Anyone who saw the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Chorus perform Beethoven's 9th at the Murchison Performing Arts Center last Friday night knows what I mean. Hey, I heartily support the "let's enjoy football and everything surrounding it" concept; a pretty good musician, Don Henley, said "I win every time I perform".
  17. He identified two problems: 1. I don't know why we still have this one; didn't we see enough of this from one player in what, the Ohio game, unsportsmanlike conduct. I guess the one for FAU was at least after a touchdown. As bad as the PAT kick being missed, and the ball being kicked out of bounds on the ensuing kickoff was, that penalty tacked on resulted in FAU having the ball on OUR 45. Will the players learn (or be taught) after this game to avoid these? 2. The kicking problems: honestly, I'm still not sure this can all be put at the foot of our kickers/punters; there are a number of things that have to go right for a PAT or FG to work. Have we had any kicking gurus to come in and help our guys kick in the adverse (swirling winds on Saturday) that may happen anywhere, especially in Texas? Hey, if people think getting a new kicker is the thing, Atterberry came here saying he wanted to "do it all". Based on past performance, he probably could: Atterberry kicking FG's for Lewisville Still, remember that one of his punts was blocked last week, and he shanked another one, probably due to the same rush. These units have to block for the punters/kickers. And it would help if the receivers or whoever makes a good offensive play doesn't put the kicker in a hole with celebration penalties. I'd say this team should look for the answers from within, whether it's the players or coaches (I think the previous S&C coach, who still works with the non-football athletes, used to work with the kickers; does he still?). These close games will always be tough to win; I don't see how we can win them without the kicking issues being successfully resolved. And I do agree with Dodge's "go for it" decisions on fourth downs in the fourth quarter Saturday night, but I still think there have been at least a couple of times this season when the best choice would have been to take the points. I think we could have at least one more win this season if that call had been made and the kicker had converted a basic chip shot.
  18. I was also wondering about that. Still, it seems like Hill bobbled one kickoff (but recovered it himself). Also, there was another Royce Hill fumble on a kickoff that the meangreensports.com play by play listed as having been picked up and advanced 10 or 15 yards by Seidle (sp?). Maybe Seidle just wanted to get a "touch" and grabbed it from him.
  19. Well, that was easy for you; everybody loves Scrappy.
  20. You know, I've been wondering the same thing since last night's game. The manager where I work has known of Cantly since his son and Cantly played together at Arlington Lamar; he thinks Cantly is best at DE and that he gained weight too fast in his senior year, and should play at less than the 300 or so pounds or so listed in the roster. Still, his stats looked great when they played him as a nose tackle at Lamar for half a year. Still, this is Cantly's first year, and the coaches should be able to figure out where to use him for the next 3 and a half years, leading to an appropriate conditioning program. They need to figure out Gilmore sooner, because he's only here another half season, and he's been the only one putting ANY pressure on the opponents' passing game, as far as I can tell.
  21. I'm torn about the whole thing. I'd like to see them go into the stadium and watch the game; on the other hand, I think a lot of them don't care about football and are just there to party. I'd prefer them to be there in one place, where at least some of them can walk from there, rather than out drinking and driving around to a variety of keg parties like a lot of them did when I was a student back in the 70's. Maybe once the new stadium is built, if the same thing is going on, the school could just put a flat screen tv outside in the tailgating area large enough and high enough that they could reasonably say people were watching the game. Then send a crew out to do an approximate count and add it to the "official" attendance.
  22. According to meangreensports.com, he's a junior.
  23. Dude, I think the word is "onus", but people may run with this.
  24. He went up to D2 Northeastern State (in Okla) so he could actually get playing time. Seems like he was doing well (except they weren't winning a lot) until a few weeks ago when he injured his shoulder. Woody Wilson at NSU
  25. I saw no reason to doubt those numbers. I haven't seen more in the alumni section this year. My wife was among those who couldn't handle the cold and went back to the car.
