  1. He's kicked FG's of around 55 yards in high school, for what that's worth. Sorry, I don't have time to look for the link right now. Still, we'll need more than one good kicker/punter; what if he did both and got hurt, with no reliable replacement. Also, we've got to get that blocking accomplished; I still say those blocking our kicks are coming free.
  2. Well, that could explain the complete meltdown in game (and especially clock) management. Even before the consecutive timeouts, there was a series where we were at 3rd and 1 (some point in the game), call a time out, go back out and can't get a play off before being called for delay of game. And I thought it odd that, after the offense turned it over at least 3 times in the first half (and at least 2 of those on Riley), that Riley and some others were back on the sideline with 5 or more minutes left of halftime. It seemed like it could have been a teaching opportunity for the offense at that point.
  3. Man, I'm going for it, or not.
  4. Man, I have 2 degrees from UNT and a tour in the Army (so think I can tell the difference), and I can tell you there were Army fans seated throughout the alumni section, in dispersed, but sizable groupings. And I hate to say it, but I found myself cheering for one Army play I thought was pretty good; really, just a reflexive thing. Once you've been part of an organization you like to see them do well, other than when we're playing them in football. Honestly, Army did keep trying to win, whereas with not going for it on the 4th and 5, we were just trying not to lose, and doing a terrible job of it. At least some men and women from a branch of the service that's been through some real hell lately got to forget about all that for a little while on Saturday afternoon. That's my positive takeaway from the whole experience.
  5. Yes, Knott was already having a bad night with the missed PAT and the following kickoff, but the blocked FG attempt wasn't all on him. The guy blocking it came free; and the same can be said for the blocked punts in some previous games. Plus, what about the decision to attempt the field goal, considering what had happened already in the game? Not to mention the two previous play calls that GrayEagleOne mentioned.
  6. Yeah, that's about the lamest conspiracy theory I've seen in the Football forum of this board. I do question some things about Riley and wonder if he and the scheme are in the right place at the right time, but I've been seeing him on and off since the Euless Trinity-Southlake Carroll playoff game, and I've never seen cause to question his heart or competitiveness. There hasn't been a really solid conspiracy in Denton County since Rex Cauble and the Cowboy Mafia were riding high.
  7. I wouldn't
  8. I agree with the second part there. The problem I have with the first part is that there haven't been any changes in the coaching in those late game disasters since we started experiencing them (that I can tell). By the way, I haven't voted in the poll yet; I'm leaning towards Dodge being reassigned to the North Texas Foundation, or whatever is similar to what McWilliams was reassigned to at Texas.
  9. I think that we should have taken the FG attempt at the end of the first half vs Ohio; Knott had already made one from further out. Also, Tune shouldn't have had those pass plays called on his first series.
  10. Well, unless you were rooting for an Army win, you didn't miss much. I just wanted to make that clear.
  11. Man, I actually DID have a sense of foreboding about that FG attempt, but I think it was maybe the missed PAT and the short kickoff after Dunbar broke that long touchdown run. I don't put the blocked FG all on the kicker though; we haven't been blocking well for punts and placekicks for a while now. Also, the Army guy made a great play there. I still say teams are seeing something in our kicking game that they can exploit; once the first punt got blocked (Middle Tennessee)? It's been a recurring nightmare. And hey, gomeangreen1999, were you at the FB game?
  12. Man, I can only accept you at your word. Hey, what about supporting UNT Music? My wife and I are supporters and are never disappointed by any performance we attend, and in fact are always thrilled. Our tailgate crew is in debt to you for helping get things started, and I hope we'll be as strong without you, but honestly it will be tough. Remember, the most vocal of any group (especially college sports fans) don't really represent the majority. I consider you a nice guy and a friend, and I hope you find a to be with the friends you have made here. Dwayne Taylor
  13. I predicted four, as I recall. I think I could live with that, especially with noticeable defensive improvements.
  14. It's hilly in southwest Dallas, towards Cedar Hill (which is home to a good high school football team, btw).
  15. Apparently it wasn't all fun, games, and will call tickets for Elvis in Portland. Local coverage of Glanville "resignation".
  16. He didn't do quite as bad at Portland State while Mouse Davis was there with him (3-8 and 4-7). Davis retired this last summer; after that, they were still giving up a lot of points, but not scoring near as many. I really thought it would work out for him at Portland State, but I'm sure they did too.
  17. Thanks, Mr Mosley, for your insight from a player's parent's perspective. It is very encouraging to hear that there is a positive atmosphere in the locker room, and can see real merit in what you've said here about the narrow misses and what improvement there has been. Combined with the players we expect to see on the field next year, this gives me some optimism. I do however, think that an analytical approach by the coaching staff should lead to remedies for what are valid concerns. Here are a few that I think need to be addressed: 1.) Some teams seem to be able to stop our running game by loading the box; from what I've read, a strategy that can be hard for a spread team to counter. Whether it's personnel or schemes, I think that we could come up with something to both: get our offense to challenge this, and, among other things, hold a lead better by running out some clock. 2.) Teams must be seeing something in the formations or personnel we use to block for our punting unit. Something needs to be done; those blocked punts have been real momentum changers. 3.) Our defense is still giving up too many big plays, especially late. I think the personnel we are using on the line (at this point) can do the job, but Saturday should be a real test for outside containment. I hope we can improve in pass defense over the next two games, especially compared to our last game.
  18. So, BeatNavy, will you be there in Denton?
  19. Tasty, I'll get there as soon as I can. It's been real difficult for me to get off work for the last few weeks. If I'm not there by the time the game starts, I'll look for y'all inside. I hope to find out more about the condition of that part of Interstate 30 at work tomorrow (our manager lives around that area). If anyone wants to ride the TRE to Centreport and have me drive them to UTA, let me know; I have room for 2 people and can pick up and drop off at the Centreport Train Station.
  20. Sounds like y'all may dread the 4th Q as much as we do.
  21. Hey, are we talking defense-free football? I enjoyed that when Navy played here two years ago, except for the part where they won.
  22. Well, we'd better do better on outside contain than we have lately.
  23. He's in charge of hurricane forecasts for Denton, he never has to be right.
  24. Here's a link to their ticket info. You can compare these prices to whatever you can find about buying them through UNT. UTA Ticket Info
