  1. Here's a link to an article that expresses my doubts about Franchione, especially the part where he questions the judgment of someone risking a $2 million a year job over a newsletter grossing $38k. Franchione, "Coaching over his head".
  2. I'd be ok with Gandy taking over as HC, as long as he hired someone who could specifically fix our kicking game. Gandy has done everything else well.
  3. I guess what I'm thinking at this point is that Derek Thompson sounds like he could be the quarterback to lead this team next year, the next two years, or the next three years. If he hadn't played in the last 2 or 3 minutes of this game, we might only have known about him from practice, maybe not even scrimmages.
  4. Well there you go. There's something that does seem just wrong when you think a team is NOT trying to win, even though, statistically, it seems insurmountable.
  5. I agree with what you said, but at this time I'm more interested in Derek Thompson. I mean tell me more...any descriptions of those throws, anything. I want to know.
  6. Dang, did anyone scroll down after clicking that link to the part where someone's girlfriend beat them (Title "800 Block of Oakland Street") after they spilled milk. I mean I was thinking about the same as this poster's comment: "Take the spilled milk, throw it through the hole in the wall, call the cops and blame it on UNT." It must have been a pretty good whooping; a lot of guys don't report it when their girlfriends wail on them.
  7. There was something that Randy Galloway used to call "Arkansas Polio Weed".
  8. I think you make a good point. It sounds like he has made some serious errors in judgment at times. Did he never realize the sensitivity of issues like player injury information? And to risk the kind of salary he was making at Texas A&M for a few tens of thousands he got out of his "newsletter"? I think we should realize that, collectively as a fan base, we are a head case at this time. Does he have what it takes to deal with all our issues AND all his issues? I mean, we could use a football genius right now, but not one who is a human relationships disaster. We really need someone with a proven record of making good decisions and a record of success at increasingly difficult levels of competition and responsibility. If we're going for a new head coach, I'd prefer someone with success as a head coach at the FCS (or sustained success at the D2) level, or a proven assistant/associate/coordinator at the FBS level. Some have done well (Steve Kragthorpe for a while) coming from working as position coaches in the NFL, but it looks like working at the college level requires skill sets that the NFL does not.
  9. Hmmm, further signs of implosiveness. Guess it's time to call it a night.
  10. I'm sure that's something the University President WOULD be asking questions about.
  11. I have real doubts as to whether he would he be happy here. That seemed like a real sweet deal he had at Tulsa, where he left in 2007, under contract through 2011. What kind of money was he making at Tulsa? If his departure from Tulsa was just about the big paycheck, I just don't think he'd be happy here, and he should be asked why he wants to be coach at North Texas. To claw his way back from flophood sufficiently to be caught in the next whirlwind courtship by a school with deeper pockets?
  12. Hey, we can click on a link and read the article. Weren't you taught to attribute direct quotes?
  13. I'd like for him to take a position similar to what McWilliams took at Texas when he resigned as head coach to become president of an athletic alumni group. I think Dodge could be a great ambassador for North Texas; if he found a niche as a fundraiser, it could make a lot of these struggles more palatable.
  14. Why would that be money well spent? I might disagree with a lot of what The Fake Lonnie Finch has said, but it's true what he's said that coaches who make even(!) less than Todd Dodge have beaten us with Dodge coaching. If we start looking for a new head coach, we should find some with better resumes than Kragthorpe for much less than he has made at Louisville. It has been pointed out that Al Golden, who has turned around the Temple University football program, is only making around $500k. We have to have someone coaching at North Texas who wants to be here for a career; that's the way great programs are built and sustained. Yes, Schnelly and Petrino did great things at Louisville, then left for greener pastures. Kragthorpe probably wishes he had stayed in Tulsa, except for the fact that his balance sheet probably looks pretty good right now. The only statement I've heard attributed to him about North Texas is that he would NOT want to be head coach here. Does that tell anybody anything? If someone who was an assistant coach here hasn't believed in the future of our football program, what difference does the strength of his resume make?
  15. Ah, that's the other guy I was trying to remember taking the snap in our "Saints" version of the wildcat.
  16. Overall, I agree with you, and besides, I had family obligations that prevented from listening to those two minutes. I gave up after going to the car and hearing about Tune being sacked on 3rd down at the 5 with us 10 points down and little time left. If I hadn't come over to this board and read all the controversy, I wouldn't have been reminded again that we have a Derek Thompson, much less have known that he can sling the ball and put points on the board. But overall, I see your suggestion as having some potential for preventing further implosion of the Mean Green Nation.
  17. My understanding is that with football, being on the field for any play in any game counts for a year of eligibility. Maybe someone who knows where to look up the rules can confirm that or not, but I think he has 3 years of eligibility from this point forward.
  18. Still, is that Greek yogurt? I love that stuff, and will use it for my kebabs next year.
  19. Uh, wow. We were direct snapping to Darius Carey, among others earlier in the season.
  20. I know I'll be there! I'll also be singing in church choir tomorrow; something about that North Texas music training that sticks with you.
  21. Folks, UNT needs "The Guy"; someone who will coach here and enjoy mutual affection for ten years or more. Kragthorpe was signed through 2011 when he left Tulsa in January of 2007! How much has he cost Louisville to be known as someone who came in as coach for a team that had gone 12-1, returned most of its offensive starters, and most of the assistant coaches still on staff, only to go 6-6 the following year, with an offense that had over 4,000 passing yards, but a defense that "struggled mightily", who ran off a Louisville legend, offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm, to take over play calling himself this year, when he went 4-8. That same former offensive coordinator is now an assistant at FAU; maybe we should check him out. Jeff Brohm, FAU assistant I'm starting to think Kragthorpe may be another practitioner of the "finesse football", which worked well for him at Tulsa, and which has become widely hated here at North Texas. Maybe what works one place doesn't in another.
  22. Willie Nelson and whoever shows up to sing a duet with him. Loved by rednecks, hippies, and gen x.
  23. I thought he was quoted somewhere as saying he never wanted to be head coach here.
  24. I'd rather we didn't; Lineweaver is the most beloved man in Euless (our mayor is a woman). Honestly, I thought before we hired Dodge that we should hire Lineweaver, but there would be the cries of "you should never hire a high school coach for a D1 coaching position" from the outset. He's a happy man in his sixties who has found his niche in life. Please, disabuse yourselves of that idea, if you might even remotely be serious about it.
